Today Esquire's John Mariani reveals his list of the best new restaurants across the country, and two local spots managed to enchant him. This is no small feat since, as he writes, "There are just too many exciting phenomena happening in the world of American dining right now," including Cronuts. He managed to whittle the roster to an "astonishing" 20.

Ming Tsai's Blue Dragon, he enthuses, is a "revelation of flavors and preparations"; bonus points for the jovial Tsai himself readily visible at the open kitchen and chatting with diners.

T.W. Food's Tim Wiechmann is also honored for his new German-Austrian restaurant, Bronwyn, where he serves "the best, tangiest sauerbraten outside Düdenbüttel." Mariani writes that the Union Square restaurant deserves national attention; his glowing review will surely help.

Ahem: It should be noted that Somerville is the only non-major city on Esquire's list, possibly to the chagrin (or bittersweet delight?) of native hipsters.
