There was a time, not long ago, when Mantra was the hottest Downtown Crossing destination. Those days are gone: The Boston Business Journal notes that the glitzy, empty French-Indian fusion restaurant will head to auction next week. It's a swanky space, a 9,323-square-foot former bank with a restaurant and bar on first floor and a "modern stylish bar on the lower lever for private parties that features decorative marble and moldings." Who should buy it? Here's a shot of Mantra's bar in happier times. (Also note Gossip Girl in the background, a sure sign of its datedness.)
