An interesting restaurant is headed for Washington Square this fall: Fairstead Kitchen, which the Brookline Tab reports will serve dishes with "Eastern European and classic Israeli and North African spices." Steve Bowman, who used to be sommelier at Menton, is behind the upcoming spot. He'll team up with Andrew Foster, who's worked at Russell House Tavern. Bowman, a Brookline native, tells the Tab that he hopes to help make Brookline a "dining destination." With the soon-to-open Ribelle, the heavily hyped restaurant from Strip T's Tim Maslow, plus tried-and-true destinations like the Fireplace, Publick House, Washington Square Tavern and the Abbey nearby, he's probably making a safe bet. Look for an "early fall" opening, if all goes according to plan. It's at 1704 Beacon St., in the old Umami space. Hat tip to BRT for the heads-up on this news!
