The abbey retreat, founded by German nuns who came to pray for the souls on the other side of the Iron Curtain in 1955, caters mainly for older customers who come to relieve their mobility problems or aches and pains with Kneipp hydrotherapy. Since opening to the public in 1969, Marienkron has expanded its range of activities to include massage, pilates and even Qigong, but at its heart it remains a spiritual oasis designed to revive body and soul through healthy living and prayer.
