Great Migrations

Move as millions, survive as one. That is the subtitle to the new seven-part television series from National Geographic called "Great Migrations". Animals great and small are on the move around the world, chasing resources in dangerous journeys that might take mere hours or span generations. To capture the images and video for the series, they spent two and a half years in the field, traveling 420,000 miles across 20 countries and all seven continents. The fine folks at National Geographic have been kind enough to share with us some images from "Great Migrations: Official Companion Book" below. Great Migrations premieres in the U.S. on Sunday, November 7 on the National Geographic Channel. (29 photos total)

Great pics as usual! Number 14 immediately reminded me of this picture from the Chinese Olympic opening ceremony; the colours, the repeating forms, etc. Not sure what the original source is, but this is the first link I found using google images. I hope it's OK to link here:

If only these animals believed in GOD. Then they wouldn't have to live in such wild and rugged conditions, always on the move. They could become enlightened and then live the sweet life like many of us humans - sit around the house and get fat while wallowing in self-righteousness.

Sickens me that the greed of Tanzania's so-called leader would disrupt the Serengeti migration with a major highway shoved across that migrant path and destroying one of these moving wonders of the world. World pressure is needed to sustain what should not die.

If we had any sense as a species, we would fight tooth and nail to preserve what's left of all that beauty...That's a huge "if"
And when I say "fight", I don't mean with words - like these - and sensibilization campaigns either.

The only species that is able to understand and appreciate the natural world as a whole is destroying it in the blink of an eye...

Sick of it all..

Stephen Walker: "Like the other similar comments I wish humans were free to roam wherever they wanted. Who gives governments and countries the right to restrict us ?"

God.

"The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him." - Acts 17:24-27a

All things money CAN'T buy! Beautiful things! It is too bad there are so many who would gladly sacrifice and trade these beautiful creatures in exchange for the crude worship of mammon. A fool is someone who knows the cost of everything, but the value of nothing. Wake up, people. Listen to whom is speaking to you each day on the winds, in the waters and through the sunlight of each unique day....

What television show were these photographs taken for?
"Great Migrations"

How far do wildebeests travel each year?
1,800 miles across equatorial East Africa

Name 2 composition techniques you can identify in picture 3.
Leading lines, rules of 3rds, framing.

Is picture 16 a good picture? Why or why not? Explain your reasons fully
In my opinion, yes. It's a bit overwhelming but I like the picture and the idea of it.

Name 2 composition techniques you can identify in picture 24.
Leading lines, interesting angle/prespective.

Which photograph is your favorite? Why?
I like 28, it's too perfect.

Which photograph is your LEAST favorite? Why?
15, it's gross. I hate spiders.

1.) Great Migrations
2.) 1,800 miles
3.) repitition & fill the frame
4.) It is a good picture. The angle they got and they way they filled the frame was very artistic. The picture is reall ypretty.
6.) 13 was my favorite, it was so cute. The baby and the mommy 7.) 11 was my least favorite, it was nasty. For starters, I HATE birds. And to top it off, they;re fighting over a dead animal... Ew.
