Severe flooding in Pakistan

It is only the start of the monsoon season, but already Pakistan is experiencing some of the worst flooding it has seen in over 80 years. Entire villages have been washed away, an early estimate of over 1,600 deaths so far and over 2 million displaced or otherwise affected. Not only is the immediate water damage causing havoc, the floods have inundated crop-producing areas, dealing a crippling blow to the agricultural-based economy and threatening a food crisis. The Pakistani government now struggles to rescue and provide aid to millions - while still fighting with militant Islamist forces in many of the hardest-hit regions. With even more heavy rains predicted in the coming days, here are a handful of recent photographs of Pakistanis as they cope with this latest disaster. (41 photos total)

This is heart-wrenching! I can't imagine if something like this were to happen to me and my family. Imagine sorting through the remnants of your personal effects in the mud around what was once your home. It's hard to imagine.

I should be shocked, but when I hear the word "Pakistan" I get a bit numbed. After all, this is a failed state whose social elements and extremists within its security forces and intelligence promote and export terrorism to nations such as Afghanistan, India, Russia, UK and US.
And as if the export of terrorism and nuclear weapons technology was not enough, this is the land where extreme gap exists between the haves and the have-nots. The haves(5%) in Islamabad an Karachi kick back in their homes in Los Angeles and London, while the have-nots(95%) are forced to watch their homes, families, their entire assets and virtually their whole lives drift away in the flood.

You'd have to blame the Pakistani government for this one. Floods may have been unavoidable, but natural disasters are always manmade. The government's criminal negligence in not warning the residents of the impending storm, its lack of resources and inability to rescue the stranded and trapped, have equally contributed to making of a disaster along with the rain. It is unbelievable that in this crisis, Mr. Ali Zardari is in London toasting with David Cameron while the underbelly class in his country suffers and dies. Perhaps he thought their lives were cheaper because they are 'poor people'.

For everyone thinking of criticising Pakistan because of its response to this crisis:
- a month's rainfall fell in one day - if that happens anywhere in the world the infrastructure can't cope
- think back to New Orleans - certainly in a country who doesn't appear on the "Failed State" Index

More compassion and less criticism, please.

@ #9

How is the ditribution of wealth in Pakistan different than that in America (where the wealthiest 1% have 35% of our nation's wealth)?

Because humans are suffering you go numb? Sounds like someone needs some time for introspection. If you don't have any sympathy for those needlessly suffering (those children being rescued didn't ask to be Pakistani or for a flood) then there's something wrong.

Great pictures! Horrible disaster! Doesn't matter where flooding occurs, its always heart wrenching to watch people suffer.
Picture # 1, That boy is going to get hurt pretty bad if that truck runs over a submerged debris. From what I have read, most of the houses in the affected areas are made out of mud, clay and straws. Those houses never stood a chance against rushing flood waters. I hope the red crescent send tonnes of badly need food, shelters and medicine.
On a lighter side, young Pakistani men are not bad to look at. #21 #35

It pleases my heart to see the prayers(whatever religion), the thoughts for the suffering(whatever religion), the hope that can survive(whatever religion). My heart breaks at these pictures, and they are relatively calm pictures for the disaster the people of Pakistan are currently living. How sickening Abby. To keep your fingers crossed? I wonder how much disaster aid China, North Korea, Iran and Russia will send to Pakistan.
Or England, France and Germany for that matter.
I wonder when USA will stop tring to save everyone around the world and put the money to work right here within our borders for our own school systems.
It's sad there is suffering in Pakistan with the flooding.
Same can be said for here in USA.
I see more people in world villifying the USA than ever before and yet USA still sends help.
Wise up Congress! Keep our aid money right here and let the other countries I mentioned step up to the plate and help.
It doesn't look like aid will be sent for comrades from China. Why should they? Stupid Americans will borrow money from Chinese to give to Pakistan. USA taxpayers will pay the interest.

@LibertyJuggernaut - Hillary did it to encourage American's to do it for a specific program to send $10 at a time to the UN High Commissioner.

You're pathetic attack on her shows just how bankrupt political hacks as yourself are to use a disaster like this to attack someone you hate irrationally.

I have friends in Pakistan. You did them a disservice as you did America. You should be ashamed. But you no doubt are too full of self-righteious hatred to even consider the possibility.

#14 You are being heartless. You are most likely from the US because of the pseudo redneck attitude I sense. Natural disasters strike, sometimes worse than what was thought possible. I know you can't see past your nose, but these are people like yourself and myself, your average citizen of a country who live and work in the country you are born in. We are no better or worse than them.
Just remember Katrina hit the south and look how many people died and suffered? And the US is supposedly a 1st world nation. No country can adequately be prepared to the full extent for every disaster. Can they? I live in Los Angeles and if / when we get hit by a major earthquake I have no faith there will be adequate support to handle the tragedy.
Please all of you people who think posting political bias comments, think twice about it and be a human being for once.

@35, alright, so how much have you donated? Would you have known of the specific charity demonstrated by Clinton had it not been published as news when she texted in?

@48, China has committed 10 million yuan, plus immediate emergency service personnel, tents, medicine, and evacuation assistance. The other countries you list (save for North Korea -- are you ignorant?) have also stepped up to help Pakistan.

You say the US should keep our aid dollars local in these dire situations -- do you not realize that many of these countries you've singled out have also helped the US when we needed help? For example, just in the aftermath of Katrina:

China offered close to 30 million yuan, Iraq offered 20 mil barrels of crude oil, and Russia was one of the first to come to our aid with evacuation planes/equipment, medical equipment, a water-cleansing system, rescue helicopters, 10 coordinators, 50 rescuers, and 6 tons of drinking water.

As for the other countries you mention...

The UK contributed 500,000 ration packs (valued at 3 mil euros), search/rescue equipment, medical experts, engineers, high-volume pumps, and many many more skilled personnel with disaster management, emergency response, and medical training. They also pledged releasing an extra 2.2 mil barrels to the world market to offset rising gas prices thanks to the shut down of refiners.

France offered to help but they were denied at first. When we finally went crawling back to request the aid we had refused earlier, France gave a large number of tents, beds, generators, pumps, purification stations, and other materials. They sent over 100 experts trained in catastrophy intervention. They offered 2 ships and 8 planes-worth of medical assistance/facilities. French non-governmental organizations stepped up to offer emergency telecom and water management services.

Germany immediately sent 25 tons of food rations, with subsequent planes also landing afterwards. Germany offered assistance with airlifting, vaccinations, water purification, medical supplies (including German air force hospital planes), generators, and pumps. The German air force scrambled to help deliver these materials, also aided by chartered jets from the German gov't. The Minister-President of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate offered financial assistance to US servicemen who were stationed in US bases there who had families that were affected by the flooding.

You speak out of anger and ignorance. Please do your research before you attack both our ally countries and those who offer to help other human beings IN SPITE of political differences. I hope you decide to offer emergency assistance to the Pakistanis; even they donated $1 million to the US after Katrina as well as providing a team of medical doctors.

Every pakistani citizen is made in the image and likeness of Almigthy God and deserves the love and compassion of the rest of the world. As humans, we are our brothers' keepers--even though, all too often, most of us may not accept this living principle.

Every tragedy or disaster, natural or man-made, provides all of us an opportunity to respond to our natural inclination--that is to intervene lovingly on behalf of those who are victimized and are suffering. When we all come to understand that sacrificial unconditional love is a pre-requisite for survival, and must be shared worldwide among humans; then, and only then, the world will begin to experience peace and wholeness.

May our Lord Jesus Christ sustains His people in Pakistan, may He lifts up their countenances, and may he bless them with life and Shalom!

Can Americans[and others] ever stop being so self- centred, ignorant, narrow minded, arrogant, stupid? [the list goes on]. These are human beings suffering, fighting for their lives, babies, children, 80-yr.olds, a man saving his chicken, one with a dirty useless mat, women handing over their babies in fright. Overwhelming pain and suffering and you see....
#9...a failed state...You need to watch your big screen tv a bit more and see flooding in other 'failed states' Germany, France, UK, China, and of course New Orleans. I am more than numb and angry at the devastation of the Gulf of Mexico all because of the greed of the US, where people are complaining about losing their livelihoods, but the irony is , the very SAME people do not want moratoria on drilling, because Americans are used to excess and refuse to change their lifestyles.
So people should be careful when speaking of inequalities.
#13..You are confused...floods are manmade, some NATURAL [as in the word nature] disasters are not, this might be a combination. ..
# 39..''photos too fine to render disaster?'' You need to read National Geographic....mothers handing over their babies in life and death situations... these must surely be 4th July celebrations? No wonder an entire teaching staff was fired in RI. You people need to be taught, and to read as well.
Possibly if you dared to step out of your bubbles for a moment, you might realize #48 that the very same countries, where US soldiers are being killed as we speak, where the US ''sends help'', wars have been initiaited by the US [we are yet to find WMD], and millions of people the world over are suffering or dead, because of their ''help''. So maybe, just maybe, there's a reason that the world villifies the US.

This is not becuase of mother nature, we pakistan leader had 60 to built the nation, built dams, but they were are always fighting for power, in all of those pics, none of the people are rich, but Allah bless them, their heart are still strong..whatever they are going through i can't even imagine....it's shameful our neighbours have done nothing but create trouble for us, for which we are paying now...

Even in this hour of destruction in Pakistan, we (the one watching these heart-wrenching pics) are foolish and judgmental to make statements criticizing politicians and talking about religion, failed states... I am feeling really sad and appalled to see people...simple and innocent...are the ones suffering the most...the floods are a question of life and death to the people who are going through it...people who only want to live a day at a time...survivors must be thinking - will they get food the next day...And here we are...criticizing states and politics...taking side of religion.

I am an Indian and a Hindu by religion, and I don't see why only Allah should save Pakistan...why does it not come to us naturally to pray that ALL GODs should help ALL people around the globe who are suffering similarly...whether it be in Russia, US, Iraq, Pakistan, India, and so forth. Why have we given the reins of our lives in the hands of few people (read politicians) who have no motive but to amass wealth by looting everybody irrespective of their religion or nationality. And finally, why pray at all...why not learn (now that this has already happened)...let us people - the ones who can think beyond religion, politics and nationalities - think and take steps to see that such natural calamities do minimum harm when they strike next time.

Let us give GOD some break...let Him take some rest ...Let us not just ask and keep asking for his help...but work with Him - to bring more love and compassion around us - beyond politics and nationalities.

GOD help us help them!

The UN will not be able to be at every location. The waters will come.
Have a plan to be on high ground. HAVE A PLAN NOW. I am heart broken
I see water coming....GET A PLAN PEOPLE, GET A PLAN AS TO WHAT YOU WILL DO WHEN THE WATERS COMES TO YOU.
Sorry for the caps...
The God/dess of us all, give us the hope and love to survive.
The plan should be to get on high ground, 2,500 feet above sea leavl and 100 miles inland. God Bless you all that read this.

In response to Ovalhed (48) - actually according to the stats, England have given 10 in pounds stirling, the US have given 10m in dollars. So we have technically given more. Also, what about the help you have had and the evils you have spread across the world. But besides this, what gives you the right or any any the world's super powers the right to say something like this. If you see someone dying on the street do you just leave them to die, because they are not part of your family or because you have problems art home? It's cowardly, backward attitudes like yours that undermine all of the other fantastic, poignant opinions of others. And in response to Katie (60) fantastic comments!

Climate scientists have predicted that along with gradually rising average temperatures, we would experience more severe weather events. Like the drought in Russia and the flooding in Pakistan. Yet, as long as it gets cold somewhere, anywhere, at least once a year, the deniers will continue to deny that global climate change is real. And unfortunately, the deniers have enough influence over our (US) policy to prevent us from doing anything to address the issue. We must vote politicians out of office who deny the reality of global climate change.

If there was a god, why would he mercilessly kill thousands and of people violently, by filling their lungs with water until they suffocate and cough blood, and then go on to destroy the homes of hundreds of thousands more and decimate the livelihood of a million or more farmers! There is no Allah, no Jesus, no Krishna, no God. It's just us, on this third rock from the sun, and its up to us to look out for one other, whatever our race and color may be. So lets stop all this nonsense of heaven and hell, virgins, eternal damnation and such rot and try to make this world a better place for ourselves.

Natural disasters are the worst that could happen to mankind. Floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes can happen anywhere anytime. All of us on this earth regardless of color or creed should unite to help the ones in need. We must all pitch in our share and at the same time seek forgiveness and benevolence of God!
This is each individual's responsibility and if anyone wants to side step their obligations they should do it without trying to play blame games. I have read some comments that should not be there. Like someone saying that Pakistan should be banned from International help as it is a nuclear power. Now what has that got to do with the suffering of a common man.
Shall we let these men, women, babies, children all of them die? I for one do not care what the government is like. I will HELP!!!!!!!

No, if you want to pray, pray to the Pakistan Army soldiers! They are the ones putting their life on risk to save you. If you are stuck on a roof somewhere in a flood, God will never pick you up. Back when the Earthquake happened, many of us trusted the President's Relief Fund under President Musharraf. We had enough respect to donate to it. Heart touching pictures these are; and what makes it more saddening is the fact that we have leadership that cares little for it.

We need new leadership in Pakistan that could effectively manage a disaster relief effort. All we can do now is build upon the future.

Basically this kind of flooding is happening for the past 10 years
in South Asia,

Every monsoon is bringing with it a devastating flood to a different region.
We need to manage floods better by Having good flood warning systems and identifying areas which were previously flooded and also the level which the flood waters reached and then changing how we build housing and flood shelters in these areas.
I Want Indias to take notice of this since August-September is when we have our floods. We have one-month to prepare adequately.

So people of all faiths, please help where you can..

its sad to see that people still have the nerve to say that Pakistan is not worth their dollars or aid. the point is here is not that Pakistan is going through a hard time, the point here is that innocent people are being effectd by it, they are loosing their families, their homes their every little thing they have spent their whole lives gathering. We are not asking for your charity, instead we are asking for support; that any individual would give to another who is wounded. Would you not help an individual who is hurt on the street,or would u keep walking your own thinking, he has caused this on himself? if you so, you need to look at yourself properly in the mirror, and ask yourself how would you feel if you were left alone dying without any food, any water, and not even knowing where your family is.

The US and the west will be pouring in 10 billion USD aid to Pakistan. Of that 5 billion is going to arm the Pak army to fight against India, 4.5 billion will go to Al Qaeda and other terrorists, 0.4999 billion will go to Zardari and his goons. Hopefully the Pakis hit by flood and poverty will get a dollar.

SEND AID to Pakistan's people , be prepared to see that someone you trust monitors the goods / supplies / money and makes sure it reaches the victims of this colossal disaster. Make sure too the Pakistan govt does NOT use this to finance foreign trips and use this aid money to buy luxury vehicles and palatial houses for itself.

Once again we read pleas being made to various divinities for assistance.
Wake up, smell the coffee and understand that religion is merely a method whereby man attempts to compensate for the simple fact that he is mortal. When we die, that's all, folks; the light goes out and the light-bulb is of no further use. There's no paradise, no heaven, no hell and damnation. We cease to be.
Religion has got a whole lot to answer for but saving people from dire situations isn't one of them.

To me Global warming is one of the basic reason for these floods and increasing water levels and unfortunately these are not the poor nations who are responsible for Global warming developed countries are creating Global warming, so who ever you are where ever you are please make sure you are not creating any extra heat on this Planet even its just keeping an iron on for few extra seconds, or keeping your car started for few extra seconds, this is our planet we all have to contribute for it. Pakistan since the begining of russian afghan war is in trouble becuase some of the corrupt people for their own interest always kept the things go on till now...for these flood victims the biggest thing for the outside world is the lack of trust on the present Corrupt Government in Pakistan and therefore most of the people are hesitating to fund directly and trying to help the flood victims through reliable NGOs and other possible means. Kindly help them they are also humans and they also have right to live on this planet.......its appeal for humanity.......the areas where floods hit most are generally controlled by Ant west Anti american lobbies.....so its write time for the west to change their image there........

To Get Real, While I am an atheist, I understand people pray in times of distress to whoever they believe in, your logic on the other hand is showing your lack of knowledge about the role of army in Pakistan, Pakistan is in the terrible shape it is in in big part thanks to the corruption of the army, army owns most of the land and business in Pakistan, they have ruled Pakistan and destroyed any real power to the institutions that set up a stable society including infrastructure that is helpful in times like this so forgive me I have nothing but disgust and anger towards Pakistani army for destroying the country to feed their own greed and for much of the horrible life conditions of masses in Pakistan and U.S. supports pakistani military as it does its dirty work.

in response to 164, 167 n all those who think it is a natural disaster...i have a question for u. suppose u invented a machine, there r some specifications of using that machine correctly. for instance u should not touch it with wet hands, there should be a specific room temp for it to perform etc etc. u wrote all of it in a user manual ad start selling it n sell it to about 80 people. out of these 80 only 8 read the manual and use it properly rest all do everything u said not to, they use it with wet hands and get elec. shocks, increasw room temp and burn machine itself...these 72 people start saying there is no creator of this machine, otherwise it would have functioned properly....don't u think that'd be unjust to u?? these people r suffering cuz God gave them brains they dont use it. they dont make dams, they support corrupt politicains. they'll vote for a person not cuz he is compitent but because he has taken loan from him, or he has arranged a job for his brother, or whole his famly is suporting a political party. and then they will keep on supporting all wrong decisions impossed on them.... God tells u do this and dont do that, if u'll do this, this is the reward, if u'll do this, u'll suffer. if one doesn't listen to Him it's not God's fault but man's fault. I have a 4 yrs old son, whole day he likes to do new experiments n all i can do is tell him not to do something stupid or he'll hurt himself, he mostly doesn't listen and gets himself hurt, by ur logic I dont exist then :)

Its a huge disaster to a fragile country who has many battles on many fronts! Its the poor people the real people of a potentially beautiful country that are the sufferers! Weak governments will not help only hinder and democracy MUST prevail! More attention needs to be focused on the REAL Pakistan and the kind peoples NOT the minority militants that are destroying all for all, with their barbaric beliefs! We in the west must always remember they are a MINORITY group in this country and not label all the country peoples with the same contempt! I pray for all those that have lost in mourning and for Gods strength to keep this country safe and its majority lovely people. I pray for there suffering that God gives them strength. May God Bless the poor suffering people and I hope the world shows MORE compassion.

It is very unfortunate that needy people only get a small fraction of the received aid whether given within the country or received from abroad. Foreign countries should give aid /donations direct to the Pakistan army as it is the only institution in Pakistan who have the logistics and geographical know how to reach and support the affectees well in time..And not through government functioneries & NGO,s mafia who always encash such incidents.
May Allah bless the afectees and give them the courage to bear the loss of life and property.

This disaster in pakistan is definitely the result of change in world weather probably brought about by Global warming for which the developed countries are the culprits. So it is their moral duty to help reduce the sufferings of these human-beings, for which they are sole responsible, by paying all the cost for rebuilding their country anew and pay for all the losses of surviving people.
So far the rich countries like America, Britain and France have been killing innocent people with their arsenals of most destructive weaponry including nuclear ones. It's time they do some benevolent act to wash off some tiny part of their heinous act against humanity which has been going on from time immemorial.

It just breaks your heart to see what is happening in Pakistan. I am afraid that there is no present or future planning to reverse this calamity to their advantage. A few months from now Pakistani people will be complaining that there is no water to produce electricity for crops or for other purposes. For starters, why can’t they have hundreds of man made lakes outside every village so that they are able to water their crops and have drinking water for animals and themselves? 500 X 500 feet by twenty feet deep man made lakes outside every village could help in the future instead of let all the flood water go to the Indian Ocean? The lakes could be dug by villagers to help them selves. They have to stop looking towards their leaders for decision making and give hand outs. People keep on waiting for leaders to plan and decide their present and future or blame the West for every thing. Population increase could be four times in twenty years. Try to supply food water, electricity, shelter and other necessities for 84 crore people. God never promised food and shelter for every human being. Ask the street beggars outside the mosques and the people of Africa who are starving. God will not help those who cannot help them self. Pakistanis wanted water. They got that. Now what? God keeps asking in the Quran, Why can’t they think?”

It is too late to dig out any lakes now. There is lack of master plan at the local or provincial or federal levels. Heartbreaking and huge devastation from earthquake and floods may not stop in future as well. Do Pakistanis have any city or federal codes developed or copied from the West for most of the infrastructure to withstand 7.5 Richter scale earthquakes to combat with in future? After floods when so many homes are destroyed, can they build homes and other buildings to a city or a Federal code so that they are in rows and streets with proper drainage for future floods with water accumulating somewhere for future use? Did they ask US or other allies in the war of terror to help them in future planning with the use of the US city and Federal codes that they have in place for the US towns? There is no lessons learned from the problems they have faced in the past.It is the lack of population control and lack of education for the population control that bothers me. They have an abundance of sunshine, they can buy or build solar panels and use them for electric generation the individual homes. It is just too much to mention and the Pakistanis keep looking for hand outs from leaders who put 95 % in their own pocket and make lofty speeches. There is lack of leadership and sense of direction at the grass root level. Keep praying for God's help. If Pakistanis do not help themselves the results should not surprise any one.

I hope God gives Pakistanis strength and power to think and act before bad things happen! No matter how you look at it is heart breaking and sad.

While some of you were busy criticising Allah SWT (and debating whether he exists or not); commenting on my beloved country being a failed state, bantering on about why there arent enough women in the pictures, analyzing why someone would tie a chicken to their neck whilst wading in waist deep waters, how aid should not be given to a nuclear state, how we Pakistanis are responsible for exporting terrorism - I believe a 6 million human beings are completely without hope - imagine no food, no shelter, no clothing, loosing your loved ones, your homes, your everything. Where are your sensibilities? If you do not want to donate, dont - no one out there has a begging bowl in hand - but if you have a heart - donate to any charity that you trust, that you can be assured will help. As a muslim I donate & pray to Allah for his mercy whenever there is a humantarian crisis because we are all a part of that human race HE created.

Government of Pakistan refused to take aid in physical form and have asked to give in the form of money . Last time in quette earthquake the saudi relief refused to help govt of pakistan just because of the reason that they asked for the money. This is confirm news and these president fund, prime minister funds and all is bullshit nothing else . I would recommend you to step ahead and personally go and help ppl even by money no problem but hand to hand. This ERRA and disaster managment crisis cell and bla bla i hav wokred with them in the past and finally given up . Pls dont go through the same help the people from hand to hand.

People of Pakistan - its time to realise why these things happening in our beloved country, why ALL kind of rath of God upon this country ? ask yourself and be sincere when you think.

Have someone been regected who was from God? Have someone persecuted because he recite"kalma-e-shahadat"? Have some innocent people butchard and killed in Mosques in this country?

Think and realize, and go back to history of mankind and relegion. What happened to the people of Noah, Musa, Lut, and many more who have been persecuted and rejected the MEN of God.

Allah want us to repent from our sins, this is a time of our holy month of Ramazan. Please please pray to God and do lot of "istaghfaar", Hazrat Yunus A.S. people were saved from AZAAB because they prayed a lot and repented

Even here most post is religious. There is no cure for Pakistan's in your face religious fanaticism. We can see that less and less people want to help Pakistan because, the same poor people will turn around and blame America/Israel/India for all their evils once the flood leaves their homes. Just because they are poor and affected doesn't mean that their hatred for the rest of the world and non-believers have subsided. Only when they remove the "in your face" religion from their life, the rest of the world will take notice. Also, not sponsoring Terrorism would help as well. Good luck!

All this fresh water that can be channeled, stroed and used for good is destorying the country. For the next fours years we will be dying from dorught and once again expecting the west to get us out of our problems. What these people need is to stop there tribal killings and stand up for justice (Good luck the people there are moslty sheep just like the rest of us, so the "go with the flow" mentality will keep them from obtaining what they need to grow as a society). A justice that will allow them to grow and obtain a better commitment to rebuilding there infrastructure. I hope the world comes together and helps them out...but relying on a false god to fix it aint helping anything. God is less useful in this situation then a shovel, boat, or a bottle of clean water!

You know what really bothers me as a human and as an American? That we think mercy should be given only to the deserving! Who are we to decide who is deserving? And mercy is for those who have committed a sin and need forgiveness or those who are hurting and need help! My fiance lives in Pakistan. That God that his family lives just far enough away from the floods that they only sustained minor water damage. For those who are laughing or being cruel about the man with the chicken around his neck...Let me educate you. These people are starving. They have been for several generations. A chicken is valuable because it lays eggs and becomes meat in a place where food is hard to come by. They have just lost their crops, their land is saturated and the water is poison because of the death and decay in it. They have no toilets because there is no housing. Bless God that my sweet Fiance lives in Islamabad and is ok. But the death toll with rise and the sickness and smell become unbearable. Their government is like a drunk. Overindulging in the money of others, drinking it up at the expense of the giver and those who should have received it in the first place. We should not be giving them money. Not to the government. If you really want to help, contact Islamic relief in the UK. They are working face to face, hand in hand with the people themselves. You can find their website and undated videos on YouTube.
Please stop giving us spoiled Americans such a bad name and reputation by being selfish and cruel. Remember hurricane Katrina and how much suffering happened? That was nothing compared to this but we were hurting, just the same. You worry about their religion? They may be so much closer to our Lord than you because you do not show the compassion of Christ for the hurting and forgiveness to innocent people. These citizens did not send terrorists to our country. They don't even have the resources to eat. They fight the same aggressors, face to face every day and deal with watching their own loved ones suffer and die at the hands of their own radical countrymen. Have some love and respect and mercy! If I had the resources,, I would be there right now, helping feed, clothe and bathe anyone who needed it. Dry clothes and a bath and toilet mean alot when you have 1500 people and 2 toilets!
When you feed the poor, clothe the naked, give a cup of water to a child, it is as if you did this for Christ. He said so Himself. You will be rightly judged one day, so please, if you can't help and you have to speak out loud, say words that will be gracious and say them in prayer.

It is very sad & heart breaking to see all these pictures & then most of the comments are ofcourse asking God to help us & save our people from this disaster.Well I am nobody to judge but we have to look into ourselves.
What was Toofan -e-Nooh? The punishment from God Almighty on mankind who were doing wrong things. Can we look back & anaylize . We never had monsoon rains or floods in the Frontier.
The Kabul river was mostly in low tide. Our leaders have just been fighting over changing the name of N.W.F.P. Not for the suffering of the common man with hours of load shedding ,creating lack of basic food items by sending across to
Afghanistan to get more money. I would say some of the influential locals of N.W.F.P have been involved .
Karachi is another place which is hit one way or another because of our politicians. The common man is suffering in all situations & as stated the aid is only acceptable in cash because it can be pocketed.
Even after the earthquake the tents that were donated for shelter were sold in the open market & so were other commodities.
We need young volunteers to take over & help the effectees.
I do pray to God Almighty to help our effectees in this disaster but would pray more for our leaders to get down to reality.

Shouldn't that money could have been invested in

such a waste of money... but I guess the military industry

Our leaders should be ashamed of themselves. They are having palaces and huge bank balance and none of them are paying attention on what is happening with our country. Our so called Mr. President was out of country for such period. But i must say one thing is sure that is like the funds came during earthquake 2005 the amount was so much that whole cities could be made with them. But what happened our leaders had saved those money in their accounts. Such a shame on all of them. Even now everyone is helping generously but not all the funds are gone to victims. Our politicians are more victims than flood affected ones... I must say we need a revolution and we need it right now. We had to cover this disaster. We have faith in ALLAH so just take step, when everyone of us will be united no one can do anything. Kindly think on it..

This is a sad time for Pakistan - May Allah helps us find a way out of this. InshAllah we will come out very strong after this. Also, very sad to see comments from India- doing politics even in this disaster. Let me just remind to my Indian friends, these floods are often indiscriminate- Allah forbids, today here tomorrow there! Please come out this mindset. My request to all, please donate generously!

God helps those who help themselves. If you think Allah can fix these problems, ask yourselves why did Allah cause this to happen in the first place? The forces of natue are at play, not Allah. Use your intelligence - Allah cannot fix your problems people! You have to act and do it yourselves. The sooner you realize and accept this fact - the better off you will be.

It is so sad to see what has happened in Pakistan. I sit in a foreign country and just think what can i do for these people. At least I can send money to them through a reliable aid group like Edhi who then can buy food clothing and shelter for them. It so sad and heart breaking. I am no fan of any politician , I hate them all.But this is no time to get angry with any of them . If any one in Pakistan reads this message please force the people of Pakistan that this is no job of any politician but these our own deeds. Bow your heads in front of Allah and non other, not even saints which many of people do and beg for forgiveness and see what Allah will do for them. I will pray day and night that may Allah help you and forgive your sins and you can open your eyes and choose the right people for you to guide your country to success and prosperity. And always remember you always have a choice you just need to find it and stand upto it

It's a fact that it is an unprecedentd calamity partly man maid and partly Natural.
There is no subsitute for knowledge and and the first and foremost duty of all of us is to gain knowledge and acquire competence in our particular job.Right from
top to bottom we need competent people to handle our duties as the system of the universe is based on knowledge.Lack of knowledge and ignorance is inexcusible and any system can not work without a proper know how.And this is
the basic problem eroding our country,be it a disaster management or day to day problems solutions.
But there is a ray of hope as there is no dearth of capable and competent people
but they dont think collectively and make plans to rehabilitate the affected people.or handle other problems. The point I want to make is first gain knowledge-from internet, print or electronic media about the situation and possible management options and then decide. This needshardwork&Action!

The People of Pakistan, mostly Pray and pay Zakat. They are better muslims than many. Yet they are punished by such calamities so frequently that one must do soul searching to find out where have we have gone wrong ? Allah reacts sharply when people meddle with his religon. In order to avoid further back lash from the forces of nature and to invite the blessings of Allah, it is necessary to amend all the black laws which damage the image of Islaam and which bring about the wrath of Allah. The role of collection and distribution of donations should be given ONLY to the Army and Edhi

Its f*cking global warming's fault, The Asian Floods and the Russian Heat wave are linked to global warming, This is just the begging. We are gonna see more horrible Natural Disasters later on.

For instance take the recent cyclone that built up near the Pakistan's coast along Karachi and Gwadar..

Many have referred to other recent climate catastrophes and the assistance provided as they occurred. Money donated is to relieve suffering but also to fix the problem. Summer 2010 is giving us a glimpse of the scenes our children will face repeatedly if weather systems, deforestation, carbon proliferation and political inaction continue. It may already be too late to save Pakistan from the same tragedy next year. Global resources to combat these epic horrors will run out. The will to act will evaporate as the rich countries face troubles on their own shores effecting their own millions. Whatever will exits now should work scientifically to predict and then to remedy these events as they occur. Yes, we need prayer and universal commitment for those who suffer but we need action on the part of those who can educate and change the priorities of world leaders who fail to act on behalf of all of earth today. Heaven help us.

Apart from blaming our deeds (aamals) and leaving everything to Allah, we should blame on the poor planning, or no planning at all, by our current and previous governments to deal with such catastrophes. As 1/5th of Pakistan is under water at this moment, were we prepared if only 1/100th of Pakistan was affected? The answer is no and the evidence is clear from the poor performance of Pakistan’s National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA). The NDMA’s web site shows no signs of such preparedness.

I see a big lack of leadership’s effort in bringing the attention of Pakistanis to this disaster. They do not have guts to come to TV and address the nation saying “My countrymen, wake up, we need your help”. Bring the attention of industrialist to donate, artists to raise money, doctors to treat patients, engineers to rebuild, and students to help helpless. Provide an honest assessment and plan to deal with the situation to earn public confidence back so people start donating wholeheartedly. We do not need to go overseas and beg. We still have enough intelligence (if used positively) and resources to recover and come out better than ever.

I see an utmost need of mapping the country for identifying low lying areas, prohibiting human habitat in those areas or protecting them by levees around water bodies, so we can save human lives and infrastructure in future. Build emergency centers, food and emergency supply storages and shelters at strategic locations to deal with future catastrophes. NDMA must train ordinary people on regular basis to have them ready for dealing with disasters.

I also see a serious need of watershed planning and management including building new dams setting aside all political differences. If we had few additional dams at present, we would have been relatively less vulnerable. Dissolving local bodies was another blunder that present government made in its policies. If a Nazim could gather 5000 people to attend a political rally, he must be ashamed not to give a call to his supporters in his district to help flood stranded poor people.

God help Pakistan and descend a sensible leadership!

Good luck!"
Wow, very hypocritical to see you speak of hatred whereas you're the one who wants to refuse aid to a suffering people simply because they're not praying to the same God you believe in?? These every day Pakistanis are not sponsoring terrorism, most non average Pakistanis aren't either. get your facts right or remain silent. Thankyou.

To Mehmood Bhatti regarding his comments regarding the culpability of the American people in this calamity: Please, we understand your pain and grief and would do anything we can to ease your way. But, check the statistics and find that the United States is ALWAYS number one in terms of sending manpower, money, food and water, housing and medical aid in ALL emergencies. For this, we are rarely thanked, only do we hear the seemingly endless litany of complaints against our way of life. Just for once, is is possible that a small amount of gratitude could be extended? We don't mind giving and giving and giving, paying higher and higher taxes to support the citizens of the entire globe, but be a little kind and understand that we are doing the best we can. China now uses more energy than the US and consumes more goods, go pick on them for awhile. Better yet, don't be angry at ANYONE! God loves us all equally and understands that we are trying our hardest, all of us, to live good lives. We americans, for the most part, do not murder or steal or cheat our friends and neighbors, we are just people like you who love their families and want to get along with you as well as possible. We are even willing to love you, sight unseen, simply because you are our human brothers. For this, we are reviled and vilified, cursed and murdered, hated for no reason other than resentment of our good way of life, which will not last much longer. We are even hated merely because we DO love you in spite of your misunderstandings. Most of us would agree with you that there have been injustices committed by our governments, but that has NOTHING to do with all of us, we don't support any actions that spring from any motive other than kindness and compassion. Do you even KNOW that about us? Do you care?
OK, I'm finished. Just, PLEASE, be a little kind to us in return for all we do for so many.
Thank you.....

It really is disturbing and frustrating that few shallow minds are representing whole nation. I on behalf of all my Pakistani countrymen, thank each and every person belonging to rest of the world, including USA, for helping us in this hour of need. If we would have kept looking for government assistance, it was impossible to feed even the few ppl that are being looked after now. Yes, our government is corrupt and ministers are a bunch of scumbags. But scorning them wouldnt help. We must not involve religion in this matter too as it is cycle of Nature that climate changes and effects the earth this way. This is happening every where. Not just in Pakistan. So dont just waste time in being cynic and critical, be selfless and forward your help as much as you can. And we dont ask much. Things will settle down with time but effect of words on hearts will remain forever.

Looking at this mass human catastrophe, one can only think & wonder to ask our corrupt polititions, had the two dams built over time (Kalabagh & Basha) this certainly could have been avoided to some extent, Our politions claimed that Nowshera & its suberbs would be under water if proposed Kalabagh dam had been built, Now i happen to ask them, Is this picture different that the one proposed. How do they see this ?

Its Just lack of will & initiative to do something good to this country, we all responsible for this, We go & vote for these polititions again & again. We are just too much involved in getting our own pockets & stomachs filled, there is no pain left for our fellow countrymen, No one really cares where our country in heading to.

May ALLAH grant these poor souls courage & strength to bear this tremendous loss of people & property. may ALLAH have his mercy on our homeland & our people, Amen.

I am a Proud pakistani in USA. I am taking a flight tomorrow back to Pakistan and will inshaAllah help the flood affectees.

For my friends around the world who are looking for a reliable source to give their money for the affectees --- my suggestion is to give it either to RED CROSS / RED CRESCENT or EDHI charity Organisation --- which is the biggest and most reliable pakistan based NGO.

I want to respond to specially some indians who posted comments before me. u guys are always eager to FISH IN TROUBLED WATERS -- and making fun of these calamity struck people. Should i mention the hundreds of millions of people in your country living under similar conditions EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO NATURAL CALAMITY. plz take care of these SLUMDOGs before u say something about others. Grow up and come out of ur inferiority complex

They are sustaining the pain and misery with courage and confidence. At this time the one who are not effected are the lucky one and what we can do best is to pray for them in this difficult time.

Dear Judith O'Shear, People of Pakistan appreciate all the relief support provided by USA and other countries. I being a Pakistani citizen do acknowledge support provided by 18 US Helicopters along with other supplies and manpower help. We also acknowledge aid pledge by other countries and positively see the offer of Indian help.

Most importantly i would like to thank our armed forces for helping their fellow country men in this hour of need, and all other members of civil society who either are students, doctors and other professionals, who have stepped forward to help.

I would specially mention the poor handling of this clamity by our government and politcal leaders. As usual they have visited in comfort of their choppers and as usual made false promises and political statements.

By now the people of Pakistan should be able to know who is their friend and who is their enemy.

Their are only percieved friends and percieved enemies.

So just get up off your back and help yourself, your goverment wont do any thing, rather it will consume the whole aid for themselves.

Reading through the comments made by some real sick minds makes we wonder ..... are these guys human at all? .. I mean they are talking about the involvement of these unfortunate people with the militants and terrorists doing nasty things in other parts of the world and feel satisfied by saying that it is justice done by GOD. I don,t think they know GOD at all because HE is all merciful and this is not at all HIS way of justice. I really feel sorry for such low mentalities. They should try being a human first and set aside foolish accusations. Help human beings if you think you are also one.

In Pakistan, Helping Hands Worldwide is working to address shelter and basic needs among Pakistani communities ravaged by the on-going flooding crisis. Helping Hands Worldwide has distributed tents, food and non food items (quilts and blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen sets, sleeping mats, etc.) to the needy in the flood affected areas.

The crisis facing Pakistan is enormous and still unfolding. There continues to be massive destruction as bloated rivers flow southwards across the plains. And this crisis will not be over when the flood waters recede - due to homelessness, hunger, and illness. We are still very much in the emergency phase of this crisis.

For more details on how you can help at least one needy family this Ramadan, please visit us on www.hhworldwide.org. Please donate generously in our Pakistan Flood Family Package of $360.00. The package includes for each family:
Be as generous as possible and Help us fight poverty and respond to this desperate need by giving a Donation in Helping Hands Worldwide Pakistan Flood Family Package.

This flooding happened in the NWFP area close to the border with Afghanistan, the place where the Taliban originates from and recruits most of its soldiers. The Pakistani army was fighting the militants heavily in the region few weeks ago. This fact along with the perception of Pakistan being corrupt and anti-American has led to the public being slow in their fundraising effort.

I have an opinion and as per that, we are 100% responsible for such disasters, the lack of education, our greed, our bribes to get short cuts, inhuman behaviors and difference and distance to true sense of Islam, thousands of Bidaats (inventions in religion) and corruptions results in such situations, as someone said, we are not umma, we are not nation, we are just crowd somewhere. It’s time to wake up now, do your bit to help, don't only restrict yourself to Zakat donations, we need to do much more, people are dying and many of us do not want to compromise on anything, its not us today but they are from us.

Even in this grave situation, some Pakistanis - as seen in the comments here - won't stop blaming India, some talk about a lesson from India Booming economy and Progress), some talk about Slumdogs living in poverty in India. But frankly, I don't see why Indians are to blame even at this moment. India is sending aid as well. But what have you guys sent us - EXPORTING TERROR and CAUSING TROUBLE IN KASHMIR? So instead of dabbling in politics even at this moment, come out and behave like friends, Pakistanis however wont stop at anything to blame India and bring India in between. While you guys get out with your BEGGING BOWLS and keep asking for aid - you get that - BEGGARS.

In the end however - ALL THE BEST TO PAKISTAN, Hope the flood receds asap and Pakistan prospers

I think its not time to criticize any one on the basis of religion, politics and racism. Today they are victim , tomorrow might be you. So please think about the survival of humans in this earth else every thing will be finished soon. We should also focus ourselves towards proper planning to tackle such natural disaster to overcome the loss as minimum as we can. If there was kala bagh dam then probably there would be not even single water of flood in the Pakistan. So thumbs up, remove all the hard feelings from your hearts, join hands and save the humanity.

Whatever we think of the government, lets put it aside at the moment and unite to fight this cause. Please think that syampthy will not get these people food, shelter, clothing and love. It is the good will and generosity of those sitting in warm homes and plenty to eat that might save the people of Pakistan. Lets give and give more. Nazir

WasteBusters started at the first phase with sending non-perishable food items to Charsadda and D G Khan. Over 4000 flood victims had taken refuge at the local MPA's house. Asif Farooki, the CEO was informed of this by his friend, the MPA and they requested food items and tents urgently. Knowing it was a relaible source and we could send aid directly, Wastebusters decided to help as a civil society measure for the flood victims, we are not a relief organisation. However, we have our own pickups so that helps with collection of aid.

We are now also collecting clothing as it is gettting colder with succesive rains. A clothing drive was run between 10 and 11th of August in Karachi via a collaboration with Pakistan Sustainability Network.

We collect food, clothing and tent donations at our office in Lahore at 7 Shami Road and all employees are helping with the relief effort coordination. We also collect aid when they cannot be dropped over at the office. We are issuing reciepts for all donations recieved and a hundred percent of all monetary donations will go towards buying non-perishable food items (lentils, wheat flour, rice, sugar, tea and cooking oil) and tents for the camps.

Please see wastebusters.com.pk for more information.

The people are looking those who remain safe and can do a lot for others who disburse and lost their home, family members and all.

ARMY is doing a wonderful job whatever best they can do they are delivering.

Thank you for posting these pictures. As a Pakistani, I want to tell all those who have or are going to donate to this flood relief effort, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

For the skeptical ones - suspicious of our government/militants intercepting your donations - there are MANY international agencies like the Red Cross, UN, OxFam, etc. that are doing a lot of great groundwork in the flood affected areas. Please - for the sake of humanity - donate to them. Each $ is multiplied 86 times when converted to rupees. Every penny counts. Please don't allow negative images of militants and corrupt politicians take away from the need to save the lives of innocent civilians. These are the same people who become collateral damage in wars being fought for unexplained reasons, by your own analysis. You can't do much to change the policies of your government, but at least you can act on humanitarian grounds and not let these poor people starve to death. It's such a cruel way to die!

Unfortunately Pakistan’s National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA) is under military control just like it was when the earthquake hit us. So I don't understand why the current civilian government is held responsible for misappropriation of the funds given after the earthquake.

I think the time right now is to help the victims by digging deep in one's own pocket. If someone has a problem giving to the government than there are scores of reputable organisations on the ground doing great work.

What the hell is wrong with most of the people writing here, I mean for once open your eyes, wake up and bloody smell the coffee, God will not come down from the heavens to help the affected people. We have to help our selves, build a better nation, have a better infrastructure. It's futile to just pray and keep your eyes shut, thinking everything will disappear. It won't. This is just the tip of the iceberg, wait for the diseases to break out, and the lack of food, inflation of the food prices, God does not control that, humans do. So pls stop this nonsense and do something for your self for once.

My heart goes out to all affected, & I've made a (small) donation because these people need help! The Pakistani government CANNOT handle a disaster of this magnitude alone, any more than the US Govt. could handle New Orleans with just it's own resources. We The People have to help The People. I urge everyone who looks at these pictures to give - even a $1.00 if that's all you can give - it will add up! There are many trustworthy charities listed throughout the comments above that you can safely and confidently donate through. Pick one and pitch in whatever you can. It's more than they have now!! I will sleep in a clean dry bed tonight & have clean safe water to drink. I have more than they do, and it's my obligation - as a human with a heart sharing this planet - to give what I can to try & help even one person affected to also have clean water to drink & a clean dry bed to sleep in tonight as well. We are not put here to judge others (leave that to god), we are put here to help others. We can only change the world one person at a time. Be that one person, helping another person, just for right now. If everyone just helps one person today, we will all wake up to a better world tomorrow.

I was in Pakistan before calamity hit hard. In Lahore, I have seen children looking for food in garbage. You might have seen people collecting rice within the dirt and eating them. Our politicians miserably failed. I saw statistics of top 100 rich MNA's from ruling and friendly parties whose false declared assets to election commission amounted to Rs. 27 billion. If they give 10% from their stolen tax money, we can have ~Rs. 3 Billion in five minutes. This does not include the assets of Zardari, Gilani and Nawaz Sharif etc. etc. US Govt. with the help of EU make a law not give G. cards to these thieves who stole the money from their respective countries and show as income to become later on citizens. There accounts should be frozen. Confiscate this money and send back to the exchequer of that countries. In this way, the tax payers of US and EU will be spared for these payments that ultimately will fill these corrupt politicians and bureaucrats pockets. Please let's have this drive to make universal anti-corruption law a reality. Being a democrat, I sent this suggestion to politicians in this country but evaporated.
Being a Pakistani American, I salute Pakistan Army and, especially, US for helping Pakistan when ever we needed them. I also salute the US population who are chipping in thru Hillary Clinton appeal to text # 50555 and write "SWAT" and press send button on your cells. Each click will send $10.00 to UNICEF for Pakistan victims.
All human have the same blood color. Don't distinguish one over the other. May God unite us and help us to take care of victims of any nation. Don't blame God but blame ourselves. Qu'ran says,"God does't change the situation of those people who don't want to change themselves."

Americans may be kind people, and every one agrees that Americans are very simple people as well and they don't take much interest in what happens around them. The clear evidence of the lack of general knowledge on the part of the American is the fact that the former President Bush knew very little about Pakistan when he had taken over as the President of the US in 2000, yet Bush knew so very little about this country and its president. Yet Pakistan and its president became a critical link for US global imperial missions.
The whole point of this argument is that ordinary Americans are victims of the policies pursued by the government elites and these elites are international. These are capitalists who want to exploit world's resources. They don't have any regard for the environment and hence they are also injuring the sacred space of the earth as well. So Islamic jihad, or for that matter secular resistance is against unjust exploiters not against this or that simple ordinary american.

May God grant the people of Pakistan the strength, comfort and support that they need at this time. May all peoples learn to put their differences aside to help those who are suffering in our world. Calamity is evident all over the world... the year began with Haiti, now its Pakistan, tomorrow it could be me or you, always remember that tomorrow it could be you in a position of need so dont let differences, whether political, racial, religious etc., prevent you from embracing your HUMANITY!! May God bless us so we can bless others, may he strengthen us so we can be a tower of strength for others. Be strong Pakistan.

i m not a gr8 muslim scholar but i think the people planning for hajj can divert their money for the relief of the poor people effected by this catastrophy. i have read several islamic incidents where most pious people have been sacrificing their plans of hajj for helping the poor who r in gr8 need. if i m right in saying so, the ulmaa should come up on the media in educating the people. i hope this may help us in further raising funds.

Today I dare all Pakistanis, particularly those who are educated and have the ability to communicate, to ask all Pakistanis living in Pakistan, who have assets vested abroad, particularly those that they had earned, by whatever means they applied, from the Pakistani soil, labour and resources, to return those assets back to where they rightfully belong, in Pakistan, and give back at least a portion of those assets to the impoverished people of Pakistan, in whatever form it may be, whether in the form of food, clothing or shelter, or better still in land (for living and cultivation), jobs (business and industry) or education. This might be the only salvation for them and for the people of Pakistan. And Allah knows the best and Allah knows the rest. The Government of Pakistan and all those who are in a position of authority must be held responsible and accountable for all their words and actions and/or for the lack there of.

Salam,

Its time to stand up against the current tryants of this world. One of the major sins (Gunah-hane-Kabira) is to acquire silence and low profile attitudes when sinners from the Jails come and take over the thrones of the country. Not speaking againt the world tyrannies is a grave sin itself.

This clearly shows that despite being the first Islamic Democracy, we are not an Islamic nation, but instead a cultural nation, which is why we never spoke for the muslims of Gaza, of Lebanon and Kashmir. When the innocent Muslims of Gaza and Lebanon were being killed, it was at that time when the Pakistani muslims were busy watching T20 Cricket and other platforms of entertainment. Its time now to stand hand in hand and to fight the injustice and these silent sinners to whom we end up paying our life, its time to get rid of them and acquire an Islamic system which the Prophet (PBUH) and his family taught us.

Wa-Salam.

I think besides the urgent need for basics to support the lives of these victims, the key question to ask is whether or not such floods desasters are not part of the backlash of climate change? Why should the empire builders today deny to face the truth of the matter but will always choose to be the first to donate when desaster hids vulnerable people.
Mitigation should be the overarching guiding policy on climate change not adaptation! This stands as evidence to the inhuman policies always on the rise by empire builders and their sustaining institutions. God fobids!

5. Small packs of milk/dry milk

This is the time we should not blame to any one even to over Govt since we are the one who choose them and v r the one vote them again and again and if we repeat the same mistake we will never able to resolved our issues. Just prayiing with Allaha is not going to do anything good to us till we take a stand.

The govt odf pakistan should nominate a commission of non corrupt social workers to ensure proper disbursment of the relief aid pouring in from abroad. It is will be Haraam and major sin if any misuses the aid money and aid material for their personal interest.

Dear All,

Its really nice to see how people across the globe are feeling the plights of Pakistan and wishing us well. I am an electrical engineer and my company has done a great deal of work for the flood victims. We have so far reached out to 41,000 people and have distributed a number of daily usage items. Employees are the actual workforce who are going on the field and practically delivering the task. If you need to know what we have done and are doing, please email me at hassan.anwaar@mobilink.net and i will share with you our accomplishments. If you feel that we can be your face for the people of Pakistanis then you may contribute as well. May Allah bless people of the world and specially the suffering Pakistanis.

I don't like to be negative because most of the hate comments are negative. Can someone make intelligent suggestions in what needs to be done in the long and short term to protect the land. My idea is to immediately start to grow the Variety of Bamboo which grows 12 to 24 inches per day into the silt and mud flats left by the flood. This will grow so quickly and be able to provide the building/fuel/food material even for animals such as goats which are quick to breed and can be used for food and milk. Bamboo is known as "poor mans Gold". if enough were planted it

May Allah help all those who are suffering from floods and May Allah give hidayah to all others to do what they are supposed to do in terms of donations, services, ready to eat foods packed in water proof packaging, supplying warm clothes, medicines, hygiene aids etc etc.

The govt odf pakistan should nominate a commission of non corrupt social workers to ensure proper disbursment of the relief aid pouring in from abroad. It is will be Haraam and major sin if any misuses the aid money and aid material for their personal interest.

I also pray that the hateful militants and terrorists hiding in those places find no rescue and all drown like the rats that they are!

Whilst I feel utter sympathy and empathy for those effected by this, I can't help but feel saddened by the ignorence of all these people saying "pray to allah, god and whoever"

If they were real, why did they do this in the first place. Yes, thankyou allah and god for destroying millions of lives, killing untold wildlife, destroying nature. Thankyou for causing this natural disaster..

Its a natural cause, and I certainly wouldn't be thanking a false god for what has happened.

Its ironic how all the innocent working people are effected, but those corrupt rich polititians are nice and safe at home, reveling in the donations from the world. Whats the answer?? They will go to hell when they die for their sins??? Great, they live in luxery for the rest of their lives then.

Meanwhile, those innocent people are killed off and left with destroyed lives.

Yes, your gods are truely looking out for you arn't they...

We all should help Pakistan in terms of food, shelter, medicine, clothes and schools. However, the corruption in Govt, blind ambitions of politicians, greed of businesses and fanaticism in religion is already destorying this country. The natural disasters are just speeding up the destruction. I hope, going forward, Govt, Businesses and religious authorities in Pakistan would focus more on improving the life of the poor people in Pakistan. One could fool people only for a finite duration of time. Please practice peace, purity, submission and obedience - along with respect for all other faiths too!

I am a proud politically conservative God fearing American. Some of the people in these pictures might want our country and my God to go away. My God instructs me to feel compassion for these people suffering such tragedy and loss. Our country has capabilities and resources unmatched by any other, but there is nothing to be done to stave off Mother Nature. All we can do now is pray for those in peril to be safe, healthy and strong. I would rather our armed forces be used to help suffering people wherever and whoever they are.
I am proud of the United States and our military. I only wish we could help those suffering instead of having to fight for our way of life.

It is not fair to call each country and it's population as cursed every time a disaster hits them? Otherwise check all the disasters that has occurred during 2010 only within all continents (Hurricanes/Floods/Land Slides/Volcanic eruptions/Earthquakes/Forest Fires). The cursed are the ones who have no considerations to nature and turn a deaf ears and blind eyes to any issues related to reducing pollutions to ground and over ground fresh waters and to earth soils and to space that is now full of man made debris which could be behind all these disasters and so called global warming incase it is possible that it could reflect sun rays towards earth causing beside other pollution's all these endless side effects?
We are not supposed to judge people like that otherwise any disaster happening any where on the world any race any religion we should not help or sympathize with because they are cursed by God??? Friends/ Brothers fill your hearts with love and not hate (God is Loving) and crises like that are supposed to have had purified the country and souls of man kind from being unjust to them selves and other helpless ones.

The word of God(Allah) is all about God sending Messengers (Prophets of God) From Noah to Muhammed to teach us the words of God and for what is that? Isn't it about mankind purifying their souls from sins become to have Morals and Ethicals among our selves and with all nations? But today on the contrary we see that mankind has used all technologies to teach and spread all that is opposite to (God Messages to mankind) if God say we spread life we will spread death, if God say spread love we would spread hate, if God say spread Good Morals we would spread ill morals? Some of us speaks of hate to others beliefs with out learning about it and maybe take the Good and leave the doubtful, God has given us Mind and Heart to think and feel the truth of things from what we read and learn from not one culture but from all cultures to learn to think and see God through them.
We ought all to seek God and wisdom of God from all his creatures, we should be seeking the light of God like the night flying insects seeking for the light? That's why we are here for? God said that he had created us nations and tribes to become to know each other and that best of all to God are those fear him most and do as been told to his Messengers to inform and teach their people, here now God is with those who fear him most and are with good intentions whether are Jew or Christian or Muslims or any other God Worshipers, God is not with those with bad intentions, blackhearted, hateful ,unjust and so on of negativities whether are Jews,Christians,Muslims or any others worshiping any thing than God or are Anti-God or Devil worshipers.
So you see God (Allah) is only with the Good and Goodness of Mankind what ever the name of their religion is, since their minds and hearts are as pure as milk, free from guilt and full of love. Kindly allow me to mention here that the first spoken word ever prophet Muhammed learned from the Holy Spirit was (Iqra) which means (Read) in Sura 96 of the Quran, which you maybe should read?

If you eleive then you must beleive Allah did this to you and the country, why are you asking it for help? Thats like asking someone who broke your nose to give you some tissue and being thankful to them for doing it. I'm not sure whether to be sad or be mad.

My heart goes out to those suffering and I have donated, but screaming for a non existent entity to help you is not the way forward.
