Eid al-Adha and the Hajj, 2009
Today, November 27th, marks the beginning of 2009's Eid al-Adha, the Muslim "Festival of Sacrifice", commemorating the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son to God. Muslims around the world will celebrate by slaughtering animals to commemorate God's gift of a ram to substitute for Abraham's son, distributing the meat amongst family, friends and the poor. Eid al-Adha also takes place immediately after the Hajj, a pilgrimage to Mecca that is a pillar of Islamic Faith. Some 2.5 million Muslim faithful from all over the world descended on Mecca this year, many encountering an unusual occurance: heavy flooding due to recent torrential rains. Collected below are photographs from this year's Hajj and observance of Eid al-Adha. (38 photos total)

A Muslim pilgrim prays near where the Hiraa cave is located, at the top of Noor Mountain on the outskirts of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009. According to tradition, Islam's Prophet Mohammed received his first message to preach Islam while he was praying in the cave. (AP Photo/Hassan Ammar)

"la religion c'est l"opium du peuple" (Karl Marx)
Ahhhhh good old religion. The blind leading the..... I'll just stop there.
westerns don't like muslim;that's all
Really really GREAT photos. Thank you!!
Awesome.....
Et pendant ce temps, les églises se vident...
#30 is a really astounding pictures.
Eid Mubarak Y'all!
beautiful pics
Great pics
Beautiful pictures! Eid Mubarak!
Absolute lunacy
@serhan — that's not true, we just don't like religion as much as the rest of the globe does. We have a sort of "been there done that" attitude towards it.
for all you atheists and naysayers, why bother commenting at all? I'm a liberal Muslim secularist and I don't like religions but I respect others' rights to practice religion... too bad many of you atheists are INTOLERANT and DISMISSIVE of others' rights to their own faith !!!
these photos are great.
Thanks for these fantastic photos and providing context to celebrations around the world. Keep up the good work!
beautiful pictures
@aliz
"the religion is the placebo's people" not the opiom. Marx was wrong.
Anyway. Great pictures.
#8 "a young Muslim boy"
There is no such thing as a Muslim child!!

I'm curious how the photographer did not appear in #33. Any ideas or maybe just photoshop?
#30... mindboggling. I hope there are no major incidents/stampedes this year... Beautiful pictures!
Those Pictures shows that Muslims are Non-racial
@Andrei: tell that to the American & Canadian Bible Belts.
These photographs are stunning. I am not personally a part of organized religion, but I appreciate the beauty of faith when I see it.
andrei:
r u a self proclaimed spoke person of the world?
Marx was wrong. Relgion provides a meaning to one's existence . As long as we have questions that remain unresolved, organized religion will provide it and If islam is practiced without the cultural mumbo jumbo of the arabs, it is by far better than whats out there. Atheist/anarchist/sucidals/haters may claim otherwise but they are simply wrong- Whats the other option? communism? ha ha ha..been there , done that! its total insanity. i could go on.....
@serhan - no problem with muslim - Christianity is just as stupid, as are most religions
… iam pridem, ex quo suffragia nulli uendimus, effudit curas; nam qui dabat olim imperium, fasces, legiones, omnia, nunc se continet atque duas tantum res anxius optat, panem et circenses.
(Juvenal, Satire 10.77–81)
The pictures are great. I might even have let their beauty overcome my (really) bad opinion about religions, for a moment. (The really old man, the eye of the buffalo, the blood of the cow, shoes, the sun rising over the remains of Mahommed's empire. I like that.)
To comment #7 : heureusement qu'elles se vident, ces églises. Le monde n'a pas besoin de plus de chrétiens.
Great pics! My first impression: westerns, easterns, southerns, muslims, buddhists, christians, etc etc.. we all are the same, we all are united by the hard adherence to out owne religion, no matter what beliefs we may profess... for good or for wrong. That leads me to the conclusion that differences are not that big, no matter what spot of the world we belong to.
Once again, awesome stuff from the TBP!
This is a sad reminder that the overwhelming majority of us humans cling to centuries old traditions and superstitious thinking.
Think what we, as population could collectively accomplish if we could all move beyond this endless violent and worthless cycle of faith and intellectual paucity. Our future holds nothing but war and suffering until we can manage to crawl up from the dark ages.
Looking at beautiful images of a sect that claims a tenacious grip on almost two billion of us depresses me to no end.
Excellent and great job...impressive efficiency
So Great !!!!!!!
and to #3 we can't blame you , deprived who never taste the magnificence of faith ..............
Beautiful pictures, Eid is a beautiful feeling.. being part of the story is Islam is a blessing, the inner peace is incomparable and indescribable to those outside. It is an opiate..a sweet, sweet drug. Sweeping you off your feet. With faith flowing in your veins, you see the Truth.
Whenever people quote Marx on religion, they always forget the first part of the sentence: "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions."
No. 32 is my favourite one - great perspective and effect!
#24 - Maggie.
I live in the bible belt of Canada, and can say that we are absolutely inclusive of all denominations, faiths, languages and colour. The small city I live in has approximately 30% African, 3% Cambodian and 1% Colombian. Most of the african persons are Muslim. It is extremists of any ilk that is intolerant and close minded.
You have just displayed appalling prejudice because you have assumed that I am a redneck. Based on only where I live. Thanks.
MashaAllah,Magnificent fotoes!!!!!!!!............Minal Aidin Aymen
Very nice.. Thank you
c est simplement incroyable,sa donne une seule envie ,es etre las bas avc tous ces musulmans, les fotos valent plus que 1000paroles.
merci pour ce reportage, important pour chacun de nous ,merci encore, melilla
What's with the atheists and Islamaphobes and their snide remarks on here?
Don't you have anything better to do today?
Let's appreciate the pics for what they are; Depiction of a great faith/people.
=)
To be perfectly honest. I wouldn't want to worship a God who would make me sacrifice my own child to make Him feel loved. Sounds like some major ego issues to me!!!!
To those who've turned these beautiful photos into a religious debate, just remember that Islam is just as false as any other religion. The same tricks and the same symbolic acts (throwing stones at the rock) are used in many different belief systems.
"Religion is not the opium of people, is the placebo of people" - Doctor G. House.
Amazing. Every time you upload new pics I can't believe my eyes. Amazing.
#34: I've never seen blood in such a stylish photograph.
Thank you for your comment #29, although I don't agree with your comment in French. But then since M. Rousseau et al. what more could one expect from "la France laique." And for this reason the mosques are being built on your "terre sainte" (#17) while your churches are empty. Quelle Honte!
#4 awesome! #31 - one of the guys on the bottom left looks like he just got nailed in the head!
atheism, religions, it's all the same things, it's the (arrogant) belief that they know the answer.
The real truth is that nobody will ever know the real truth. ;) Nobody on this planet, or anybody that has ever walked on this planet, is above any other human, in that aspect. It doesn't matter what they want you to believe, nobody knows the real truth.
There is a reason why it's called "belief"
It's not because you believe it's true that it is. I used to believe in Santa Claus.
@Observer: "Don't you have anything better to do today?" - Fighting stupidity and/or adherence to Bronze age traditions is our daily job, unfortunately.
Jena (#42) God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son as a test of complete faith (i.e. certainty) and obedience, it was't to make Him feel "loved" etc...
So maybe you should actually study what you're talking about before making smart-ass remarks that in the end just make you look really silly and stupid.
Peace

Thanks for showing us in the west what the rest of the world is up to these days. I Love the rich cultural and religous diversity even though I am atheist. thank you
Allah is Great...
Respect!
Beautiful Photo's, thx
religious or not, the beauty of the human spirit is in these photos
@Jena: so then you're not Jewish or Christian, presumably.
Read the story of Job: testing a man's faith by killing all his kids and destroying his life...
For Pete's sake, can there once, just once be something on the internet that doesn't turn into an atheist-theist debate. Can you just hold yourselves for once, and not pollute the page with your nonsense (both sides), and just enjoy the pictures? I have yet to hear of an atheist who found God or a theist who stopped believing in him because he read some argument on the internet. Why can't we all just calm down and enjoy life?
thank you thank you thank you! Mr. Alan. You do a wonderful job: connecting us with perhaps some of the best photojournalism without the arrogance like that of "magnum" or "VII" ( I was offline for some four months and "The Big Picture" was one of top10 things from the internet world I missed the most).
No matter what the religion, nothing moves me more than seeing a sea of prostrated worshippers in clean straight lines. Really amazing! Great pictures!
to #49:
Atheism is not the belief that one knows the answer. Atheism is the belief that no one knows the answer, and that those pretending to know should stop misleading people and sending them down a path that creates tensions with the rest of mankind.
The Holy Quran describes the non-believers/atheists as "deaf. dumb and blind". They see the proof of their creator with their own eyes but they still persist happily with their arrogant disbelief. So, let us say as we are commanded: "to you your way (whatever it is) to us ours". Let them go their way and let us continue on the path shown to us by our Great Prophet.
23: I've always wondered if it's hard to find your shoes sometimes.
Great photos. The train, the goat, the surge around the square, casting stones, the lines waiting, the masses! Well done.
Amazing collection.
Yes 49, nobody knows the answer. The only thing you can control is if you want to believe to something that probably doesn't exist, or if you accept to go your own way and try to walk with your mind free.
It's so easy to believe to stories created by other (humans, not gods). It's not because you don't know the answer that you have to fill the blanks with stories even children would laugh about.
To 47. I'm not French, but live in Switzerland. We are about to vote to allow or not the muslims to build minaret in our country (there are already some mosque). What do I have to say about this? Sure I agree to build minaret. If these people feel they would have a better life. Why would I vote against it! As long as there are thousands of churches everywhere. Event if I would prefer that people don't believe in god.
It's great to live in a period where you are not burned for saying what you think!
At least these celebrations induces superb images
Beautiful photos.. may the festival enlighten the masses of our common humanity.
Howdy, Serhan, I myself am a westerner and I have no problem with the muslims, it is the Islam I dislike. Many of us, though, dislike Xianity about as much. Xians are the ones I disdain on a personal level because they are the theists I have the most personal experience with.
@ andrei, #14, half of our country rejects basic scientific concepts as a matter of pride because of their faith... We're no where near the wood's edge.
@ broomstick, #15, are atheists second class citizens? Should we use seperate bathrooms or be denied the right to marry in the eyes of the law? Or would it be enough for you if we were banned from voicing our opinions on a public forum?
@ Omar, #23, that would be multi-racial, rather than non... That's meant constructively, no offense intended.
@Ben, #26, LOL. Marx was wrong on many things... I don't think the people quoting him here are necessarily endorsing Marxism. You provide a meaning to your life and rationalize according to your pre-existing beliefs and fickle whim. If a question is unanswered, it can't very well have an answer can it? Religion provides, mostly pleasant, fantasies. Some are not so pleasant but they are all satisfying to shallow minds. You are right about communism being wrong, too, though, for irrelevant reasons.
@ tina, #33, many, many, many, many, many non-believers started life, usually involuntarily, on your side. It can take years of agonizing to rid oneself of it without too many scars. Let's just say that those who wrestle with something and come out on top tend to have a better understanding of that something than those who submit to it.
@ Observer, #41, quit hating on haters! You're gonna make all the well-mannered hater haters look like hateful hypocrites with nothing better to do than voice their opinions, which we all know to be a shameful practice, at best.
@ jared, #43, I agree whole-heartedly w/ your religious sentiments here, but, scrolling back to the pictures, I see that they are still photographs of Hajj and some of them ( the landscapes) are still very beautiful. This comments section is a mess though!
And, don't_let_anyone_control_your_life, #49, skeptical atheists are too clever to go parading their opinion as fact. Agnosticism is the fact, but atheism is a valid working hypothesis, and one that carries more water, logically speaking, than theism. It also doesn't seem as though God cares if the atheist is wrong... they seem to enjoy some of the highest levels of social functionality... lower crime rate, lower drug dependence, lower divorce, etc... I believe the holy scriptures say something about knowing them by their fruits?
@Observer (#51). Speaking of remarks that make you look "really silly and stupid," try arguing that a God that pushes His followers to the brink of murdering their own children as a test of obedience is anything other than psychotic. Oh, wait, you just did. Well done.
For all those who see Islam as just 'another religion' should study and learn what it is about before you form an opinion.
Secondly, those who hate religions, organised or not, know that there is no compulsion in Islam and every Muslim willingly enters and practices the faith.
Islam believes it has the truth or the answer (just as other faiths do). However for anyone to imply or say that it doesnt have the truth, it is false or there is no God, must have superior knowledge of all things to make such a statement. Arrogance is ripe amongst atheists and those who think they know enough to disclaim things.
Just because you know what Christianity or Buddhism is, does NOT make you an expert on Islam.
beautiful photos - thank you Boston.com
it's not a religious forum. they're just photos, try to enjoy them for their purely aesthetic qualities :)
peace
Excelente.
Amazing
Maravilloso
Always amazed by this site photos.
Beautiful photos to be sure, but I just don't get religion.

Beautiful is not the word to describe these photos. They are just lovely and different too from the usual Haj photos!
Those pictures are beautiful. Eid Mubarack to all those celebrating today.
As an amateur photographer let me say thank you Boston.com for providing this site with it's amazing imagery. I am a new visitor and find the postings inspirational.
amazing photos. i was hoping big picture would take this as their next subject of pics. thanks i liked these.
"for all you atheists and naysayers, why bother commenting at all? I'm a liberal Muslim secularist and I don't like religions but I respect others' rights to practice religion... too bad many of you atheists are INTOLERANT and DISMISSIVE of others' rights to their own faith !!!"
I will not deny someones right to their own faith. However, I do NOT have to be respectful of a faith that decrees the slaughter of unbelievers and apostates, among other atrocities. No, Islam is not the only one guilty of this, most religions have blood on their hands.
There are people out there who believe they can talk to aliens from the planet Marduk, should I respect them, or rightfully call them kooks? They are on the same level as truly zealous religious folk.
Everyone has a right to freedom. I respect that. I do not have to respect what that belief is, though.
Beautiful!!
# 36 is awesome.......
God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, only to test his faith; those who believe in God, have nothing more dear to them in this world than complete submission to His will and orders.
Look at how God blessed Abraham for his submission: millions of people remember him every year, even after thousands of years have passed to this occurrence.
Remember, God never sleeps. So worship Him, and do not fall despair- He is All-Knowing.
What religion was Marx/Stalin/Kruschev, etc, or Mao, or Pol Pot, or many others who believed religion was the opiate of the people, following? Oh, that's right, atheism. It's not religion that causes people to be violent or intolerant (like many of the anti-relgion commenters here), it's those who seek power over the lives and minds of others.
If it happens in religion, it's because they have hijacked religion to go directions it would not. From the Spanish Inquisition, to the Mountain Meadow Massacre to the purging of opponents in the USSR to the 75 million killed by Mao to the horrors of North Korea to the Killing Fields of Cambodia, it's arrogance, and self-assured blindness of being "right" and special in the eyes of God - or a fear of losing power, that causes people to do violence to others in the name of God. But religion – or irreligion – has no basis for saying it's one way or the other. It's both!
So lets cut the hypocrisy on both sides, and enjoy what spirituality can do to have a positive impact on life, as these photos eloquently show us.
Amazing pictures. Thank you for sharing.
No one can deny how dynamic these photos are. They display true worship of God. Those who are critical of such amazing grace are empty of true depth and lack appreciation of truth.
From all over the world people come to one way of worship and display a bond of brotherhood rarely experienced. Islam has maintained what other religions have lost- spiritual connection and constant reflection.
AMAZING!!!
Through all the criticism, accusations and ridicule- we are the luckiest people alive, because we believe. Alhamdulilah!
Amazing! Salam Eid Mubarak to all muslim...May Allah blessing all our family!
Thank you for uploading such amazing pictures.
The haters here remind us that no matter how beautiful something might be, they will find a way to denigrate it. I hope the people of this world would be able to find an ability to love and respect each other, and live peacefully.
Love, Peace & Eid Mubarak to everyone!
Amazing Pictures! Loved them
Just to let everyone know, the story of Abraham almost sacrificing his son is a Judeo-Christian one, as well. The Binding of Isaac, in Genesis 22:1-24, is a story from the Hebrew Bible in which God asks Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, on Mount Moriah.
The narration is referred to as the Akedah (עקדה) or Akedat Yitzchak (עקידת יצחק) in Hebrew and as the Dhabih (ذبح) in Arabic. The sacrifice itself is called an Olah in Hebrew — for the significance of sacrifices, especially in Biblical times, see korban.
According to the narration, Abraham sets out to obey God's command without questioning. After Isaac is bound to an altar, the angel of God stops Abraham at the last minute, at which point Abraham discovers a ram caught in some nearby bushes. Abraham then sacrifices the ram in Isaac's stead.
While it is often imagined that Isaac was a young little child upon arrival to the setting of the Altar, some traditional sources claim he was an adult (This is because at 13 in Judaism you are considered an adult and Isaac was 13). According to the book of Genesis Isaac was 13; the Talmudic sages teach that Isaac is thirty-seven, likely based on the next Biblical story, which is of Sarah's death at 127 (she was ninety when Isaac was born).
Genesis 22:14 states that it occurred at "the mount of the LORD": in 2 Chronicles 3:1; Psalm 24:3; Isaiah 2:3 & 30:29; and Zechariah 8:3, the Bible seems to identify the location of this event as the hill on which Solomon later built the Temple, now known as the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
Great photos. 34 is extraordinarily vibrant.
breathtaking!
#49 how do you know that what you are saying about nobody ever knowing the truth, is true? Your argument is self-defeating.
great photos, i wish i could take some photos like that some day !
Great pictures! Please include some photos of us American Muslims celebrating Eid as well next time! Thanks From J. from Upstate NY
wo..great story with picture...i like the picture of refection on bufflo eye
The question about #33 is still unanswered. Why is the photographer not visible in the pic?
Thank you for these pictures, they were great. I have a question and I mean no disrespect what so ever but here it goes. Picture # 27 shows the mosque where the Prophet Mohammed is buried. I thought the Dome of the Rock is where the Prophet went to heaven? Once again this is a only question from somebody raised Mexican Catholic and mean no disrepsect at all. Thank you.
Oh, and maybe some pictures of the pilgrimage for the Virgen de Guadalupe would be cool for a series. Just a thought. Thank you
I felt sad looking at the photos. I felt sad that humans take the lives of other sentient beings in the name of religion and tradition. There is no true salvation or enlightenment in what harms another life. I felt sad that humans follow religion unaware that it will not free us in the end.
the best display of the pligrmige season of muslim feast of Eid al Adha!.God bless u whoever ur..........
I read all these comments here, so much thinly disguised racism... I should have stuck to the pictures
Some fantastic shots here! Glad to see all the continents represented. Would have loved to see the Bulgarian Muslims (instead of the cow) and I'm not sure what the Saudi police squad has to do with anything, but I'm loving the first two shots and the Chinese/African Muslims especially.
Thanks, Boston Globe!
Such beautiful pictures on the top portion of the page yet atheists bring their filth at the bottom. So unfortunate......
#26 the best :)
thank's
it s not about religion is about ppl, any system of belief or religion seem to be good til we the people make them bad
mahallijjeehh malliijeeehhh koosshhhkeesshhh miashhajjmiikkkeee
Although not my religion, these are beautiful pics.
As a christian my respects to all the moslims today!
The saddest photo of all in this magnificent collection is the one of a Palestinian reaching through barbed wire. When the rest of the Muslim world is celebrating, where is the outrage over Israel's slow-drip genocide of the Muslims and Christians of Palestine? No matter how beautiful these pictures, they fail to show enough of the hardships of Palestinians trying to reach Saudi Arabia. Why no photos of the Dome of the Rock or the Al Aqsa Mosque?
the pics are just awesome!
Amazing!!!
Heart touching and fabulous. I wish I was there in Mecca.
The only thing I can say is
" Allah o akbar"
"We're all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in, some of us go just one god further."
Some pictures are really awesome... !
Nous sommes la religion la plus respecter et la plus pratiquer au monde
westerns don't like muslim;that's all
NONSENSE!!!
Depends where one lives. I admit British muslims do not intergrate like for example Malaysia's do...not sure why. Neither do they seem, I did say seem, to not fully follow Islam laws.
But that does not make one dislike the Muslims, not at all.
I'm not muslim, nor religious, but I found something powerfull about these pictures. You see all those people united for this celebration. It's beautiful!
We should respect every faith and every belief. Maybe the world will be more peaceful that way.
Have a great day!
Bravoooooo very artistic as usual
Nice couple of shots.. But as atheist, I still don't understand how people could act like this..
Religions are really..... =O
to Rob (comment 21)
About the photo 33 : The photographer probably used a zoom (200mm?) and I'm almost sure that we can guess him over the shoulder of the guy with a brown/orange skirt …
Thanks for the beautiful pictures.
Thanks for everyone who is respectful to the Muslim people.
Mashaallah! Trully Allah is Great!
as a muslim there is so much beauty in these photos taken. ,props to the photographer ,

peace be with you everyone, please dont hate.
THANKS
Eid Mubarak & HAJJ MUBARAK
Beautiful pictures!
Amazing
Nice photos but I am just too tired to hear allah akbar because i don't care, i am not part of it. They can enjoy it without any problems but i can't bear to hear it everytime every day in the street. This is not freedom for me.
At the heart of Islam is an acknowledgment that there is an objective moral Truth, higher than mankind, that unifies all the virtues that we see in existence, such as 'beauty, justice, mercy, freedom, etc', proof of which does not lie on science but on reasonable grounds, just like taking an initial assumption to build a philosophical system, and the concordence of an individual and community life to that Truth, whether they like it or not.
If atheists are right, then the only basis for understanding life is evolution, and concepts such as humanity, life, love, beauty etc are just a bunch of survival tactics, social constructs or chemical process and not inherent values. Therefore, one's own survival is paramount and to colonize people, take their resources, plunder, break families, etc. are all valid as long as they lead to one's own survival. Atheist that talk about human rights are hypocrites. They say one thing and believe another: they believe in their own self, without any proof that there is even such a thing called self, they believe in freedom, but there is no scientific proof that there is such a thing called freedom. But people who die for freedom are called heroes and people who die for God, who is the Source and Creator of freedom, are called lunatics. The father that send his son to fight for "democracy" is again a hero, but a person who does it for God, is a madman.
At the core of atheist philosophies are just emotions and desires, drifting here and there and going nowhere, carrying out countless trial and error experiments like capitalism, communism, fascism, colonialism on people and destroying countless societies, ruining environment and likewise. Never has the planet seen such oppression as we see nowadays because people love their own ideas, their own selves, more than others. If they stopped doing that then they would have taken the first step towards Peace, which is the meaning of Islam, even if they do not recognize it. But, just like children that lack the faculty to reason, they lack the faculty to recognize the signs of Unity that is God and turn away in their arrogance and ungratefulness.
Religion is pointless (for me).
As always,
Thank you so much for opening the window to the world on my computer screen.
Wonderful pictures.
Beautiful photos but unfortunately, as usual you forgot that there are Muslims celebrating Eid in the America's. One of these days you might want to pay attention to this half of the world too... considering this is the Boston Globe, maybe you should check out the Eid celebrations in Boston.
It's my religion. ISLAM. Islam is the true religion - truth. Only ALLAH has the right to worship. There is no God other than ALLAH. Religion other than Islam, it is not true and error!!!!!.
masha allah the pic good
Great pics, aid mubarak for all muslims all around the world
Like Tis.. So much...
Until you have a better way to get people unite this way you'll just have to respect what you see here.
I was born a catholic, just in case you wonder.
The only love that God sees is sacrifice.
@rob #21 i would imagine thats a crop of a much larger image, that way you wouldn't see the photographer if he/she were at the right angle
fadi is happy, u know why, cause GOD opened a wider path few days back. And about the pictures, now he is keeping me more closer to him.
fadi
awsome pictures...........
A M A Z I N G ! I love my religion so damn much !
Happy Eid all !
As Muslem, I just can say Allahu Akbar...Allahu Akbar...Allahu Akbar... Laa ilaaha illallahu Allahu Akbar...Allahu Akbar walillaahil hamd. Whatever you, unbeliever, said. I really don't care. Lakum dinukum waliya diin.
As an amateur photographer myself, I can say these are excellent images and I wish every body on the festival of Bakrid. I was distressed to read some comments, so let me put my 2 cents.
To all the Muslims who are taking about sacrifice here!! What is heroism in sacrificing mute, innocent animals who cannot even defend themselves and speak for their rights!??? No religion preaches to slay animals or humans to please the Gods. Let me tell the followers of Quran that Prophet Muhammad himself was a VEGETARIAN and lived on dry fruits and dates. So were the gods of every other religion. Don't twist religion to suit your convenience and then proclaim that it is the order of the God. All the unrest in the Muslim world is because you all as a community do not show mercy to other living beings and you talk of peace!!!???
May Allah bless His followers with sanity, compassion, and the intelligence to see reason and hope one day we can see an Id with no bloodbath. Amen!
#4 and #34 Best light photos...

For those who still arguing about religion, find the truth.Open your heart. Dont let devils make doubts in your heart.
We gonna die someday and there will be after life.
If you end up in the wrong camp, ie wrong religion.you gonna go to hell, forever.
So choose wisely. God had sent His messenger to deliver the message. Don't blame others if you end up in hell someday
Peace!
amazing photo and cool shot...
so glad see picture celebrating Eid Al Adha in the world from this picture..
Happy Eid Al Adha to muslim in the World...
salam....
religion protects YOU and OTHERS from YOURSELF
without it ur like an animal who trys to survive with any means possible
thanks god im muslim
For animal rights preachers: why don't you consider human rights too for a change, formost their right to beleive in whatever they want to, be it an opium or no!
and artisticlly speaking, awesome pictures.
masha2 allah, allah akbar ...allah akbar
for all Muslims(my family) all over the world (WISH U A HAPPY EID )
and for our brothers and sisters( non-muslims), lets wish a happy Eid for muslims and wish a happy world for human
just enjoy the amazing pics without trying to offer the truth..no human has it, but one tries his best in the short life we have..
Many comments insensitive to the feelings of Muslims..
And by the way: Europeans and Americans slay animals for X-Mas too
unless a turkey is not an animal.
Abraham is not only a Muslim prophet, but also a Jewish and Biblical figure, so no point to assault him to get to Islam

most of photos shows the unity of islam , thank you alot
Salam to all,
Kindly donot fight with each other. Respect other's religion/beliefs.
We must be tollerant and peaceful (at least Muslim must follow the teachings of Islam that are based on peace).
Ignorance is a curse. The best way to learn some thing is to UN-LEARN FIRST then re-discover, and re-born. I would like to request you all to kindly study subjects like "comparative religion" with open mind. See below weblinks: http://www.irf.net

Amazing pictures showing the diversity and unity of Islam and Muslims from a myriad of countries.
Eid Mubarak to all celebrating today!
116: "We should respect every faith and every belief. Maybe the world will be more peaceful that way."
Yeah except that many of those faiths instruct you to make enemies of other faiths. So how do respect faith A, when it tells you to hate faith B, and respect faith B when it tells you to hate faith A. You can't tolerate intolerance.
nice pics i like them , and about the ppl who are talking about there is no god bla bla bla , just ignor them , and enjoy this great pics
HAPPY EID AL ADHA , may god fill our lives each and everyone of us muslims or non muslims with happiness and guide us to live happily and prosperity, and i dont care what others say GOD BLESS MUSLIMS, AND GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND GOD BLESS PALESTINE.
thank you for the great pictures and i cant wait to go to hajj.
I'm amazed, particularly after the well-publicized, hellish mass animal sacrifice in Nepal (Ghadamai Mela) this past week, and the Zulu bull-killing ritual in South Africa next week also widely condemned, that animal advocates are virtually ignoring Eid Al-Adha, another gory, inexcusable animal bloodbath. And all three of these evil traditions are morally equivalent to Thanksgiving, the American holiday just celebrated in which millions of sacrificial turkeys live in horrible conditions, only to be inhumanely slaughtered.
This planet will never know peace until unspeakable cruelty to animals in the name of religion or tradition is ended, once and for all.
This is absolutly amazing MashAllah!
To all those religion/Islam bashers few points:
- Why do you spend your short lifespan denigrating others religion? Why don't you spend your insignificant life on whatever insignificant things you usually do? And to the super-loser whose daily activity is to fight ‘Bronze Age religion’, I say keep doing that you are doing one 'atheist-equivalent-of-hell' of a job. According to your reasoning these religions are at least 5000 years old.
- So, Islam is like other religions. I am 'impressed': you read all about all religions and found they are the exact same? So, why don't you 'illuminate' the rest of us and post a table with religions as columns and attributes as rows and explain how they match in the cells? Start with religions of extinct civilizations first. Or may be just may be, you just made that snap judgment just because it somehow suited you and your little brain almost exploded when you tried to really reason about this topic.
- I understand why atheists see psychos everywhere; they just see themselves in the mirror. Do stalin and the bolsheviks, pol pot and the 'khmer rouge', mao tse tung and the ‘cultural revolution’ ring a bell. Those where atheists, you know that one of the tenets of communism is atheism?! I suspect they see narcissistic, self serving, back stabbing, dimwitted, ignorant, lying nimrods everywhere as well.
- If you find this offensive, and I hope so, then you should refrain from offending others beliefs in a forum that was meant to celebrate their holy day. Show at least some Human decency. If you want to debate Islam, debate it in a forum dedicated for that purpose.
- I hope that at least some of you waste more of your 'precious' life reading, fuming and may be even writing some replies/flames to this post. Tic tock, tic tock.
#126: Very well said.
Man, these are really dedicated people. If you look past the trouble spots and problems, that's one thing I've noticed about the adherents of Islam - the world over, it's like a single family, and they love God very much.
It's really quite beautiful, actually.
The Photography, as always, was top notch and intriguing.
Amazing pictures :)
really it s a beautiful picture alhamdo lilah we are a muslum thank a lot of for alah

Masha Allah! Allahu Akbar! Subhanallah!
these are lovely photos. showing the diversity of islam and yet i am surprised that there are no images of islam in north america..this seems like an odd omission.
great pics!
"We should respect every faith and every belief. Maybe the world will be more peaceful that way." Loved the pics!!!! WOW!
Alhamdulillah! wonderful photos! I've made intentions to go on Hajj within the next two years, GOD WILLING!
#63, you can't take verses of any scripture (Quran, Old Testament, New Testament, or otherwise), out of historical context.
Remember: "O people! Behold, we have created you from a male and a female and have made you into nations and tribes so that you might come to know one another. Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of God is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him. Behold, God is all-knowing, all-aware." [Qur'an 49:13]
It would be against the spirit of this verse (and religion) to assume that 'consciousness' is the privilege of a select group.
Thanks, Boston Globe, for another selection of breathtaking pictures!
The person who wrote "Posted by not satan, just a man", I am sure you are not Satan, but You are 100% in Satan's influence, and someone with a sane mind can see that. There is no reason to waste time making him understand the truth, and what he is saying is wrong, because he is one of the munafiqun/hypocryte.
#126, amazing explanation. Salam to you my friend.
AMAZINGLY done album. Why are some people arguing about religion and stuff? I'm a Muslim and I'm just grateful to see such a well done album like this. Just enjoy the photo's people. Religion is a personal belief for everyone whether you are Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist etc. And you should respect one another's.
Im truly amazed at the pictures shown above... they highlight the true islam...the dedication of all muslims around the world.... i feel where i am...we don't have in our hearts the tru meaning of islam.. may we be guided to strengthen our faith....
Remarkable photos. The sheer number of people in #30 blows me away.
amazing pictures, happy eid to the whole muslim world
very nice
الله اكبر ما حلا من الطبيعه الى لا اله الا انت سبحانك انى كنت من الظالمين
I am humbled.
I am remembering my best-friend and her folks who are amongst the blessed in Mecca.
God is Great.
Beautiful photos. Thank you.
Great photo's, as always
I, as Muslim, always wonder why fellow Muslims feel so desperate to defend our religion.. Respect for all is at the core of any religion, not just Islam, though it would be impossible to deny that many Muslims, especially those living in Western societies, do not respect atheists / people having other belief systems. Some even go so far as to threaten / kill other people. Please explain me how this fits in our religion or any religion? You can not disagree with me when I say that there are a lot of twisted people here.
That being said, I wish everybody who is celebrating Eid a very happy Eid. Everybody who is not celebrating: Merry Christmas in advance :)
It is so sad to see about 1/4 of the world worshiping a false moon god. I have left the pagan religion of Islam.
what a way to win hearts and minds, I bow my head to the glory of the Almighty God the creator of all things..,may peace be upon all mankind
143 you can become muslem and travel to makkah vere greet you becom very hapy!!

Frankly, the pics are more than brilliant, I can not find a word to describe them!!!
ans please ppl, stop fighting and insulting eachother
We r all humans and we all fololow the paths that we feel free at, and at the end we will see, and those who are athiest will wish if they were only a dut to escape their sad fate
@ #99: Hi Raul, no offense taken: the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, ascended to heaven overnight, sort of on a trip. it was not that he died and went to heaven. he is indeed buried in Medinah. The Qu'ran describes the place of ascension as "the farthest mosque,' and it is widely believed to have been the Dome in Jerusalem. This trip to heaven was to show the prophet what awaits in heaven, and many lessons came out of it: for example, the prophet saw some of his friends in heaven and he came back to earth and asked these friends what they do to please God so much. Muslims try to emulate the behaviors which would allow entry into heaven. (I realize that talking about taking a trip to heaven and then coming back to earth makes me sound like i'm high, but we consider it one of God's many miracles)
What do we mean by the word 'wisdom'? Usually we mean something superior to knowledge, something deeper. In the spiritual world, the word 'wisdom' is not used in that way. Here wisdom means Light, illumining Light, transforming Light. That which illumines our unlit consciousness is wisdom. That which transforms the finite consciousness into the infinite Consciousness is called wisdom.
Yah, but you don't #177 !!
WOW
Masha Allah such great photos!!!
Impressive!!
Beautiful and enlightening photographs.
Often articulate but sad comments scattered throughout.
Live and let live - there are no absolute truths but the values of the great religions are worthy of all human beings paying attention to.
And before I forget - an organism is no more less sentient simply because it is less complex, so vegetarians with an animal rights bent be kind to your fruit and your grain and your vegetables.
Muslim ....and Proud :)
إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الإِسْلامُ
To comment #99: The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) was not raised to the heaven as in death. He taken to Jerusalem, and then ascended to heaven where he met the previous Prophets and spoke to God, and thereafter he descended and returned to Makkah where he was living at the time. Later on he moved to Madinah, and that is where he passed on. :) Thanks for asking and you were by no means disrespectful! :)
"Picture # 27 shows the mosque where the Prophet Mohammed is buried. I thought the Dome of the Rock is where the Prophet went to heaven?"
Yes, the Prophet is buried in the city of Medina in modern day Saudi Arabia. The Dome of the Rock is the site of the Prophet's miracle journey to Heaven, which occurred during his lifetime. You can read more about this journey here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isra_and_Mi%27raj
Beautiful photos mA. This is art at its best. Props to the photographers!
Eid Mubarak to all the Muslims out there!
It is projects like this one that help the world change and improve because it allows for discourse. Thank you for providing a place where we can all communicate and in doing so better understand each other and the world around us. Every day is a new discovery. Thank you for teaching us something new today.
And remember...
knowledge is power. I hope you will use the knowledge you have gained today to improve yourself and the world around you. Good luck!
Heart soothing photos, thanks, credit due where it is due.
United as one human race.
What beautiful photos!!
May Allah honor us to visit The masjid alharam in Mecca.
Amen
Comment # 99 (Raul Briseno):
The Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) body was buried in his house in Madinah which was attached to the Masjid (mosque). This house was incorporated into the Masjid as they expanded it. So that's why the Prophet is buried there (not because we worship him or anything like that, in fact, it's generally prohibited to have graves in a mosque).
What you are referring to about the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ascending to the Heavens is an incident entirely separate from his death.
Allaah talks about it in the Qur'aan:
“Glorified (and Exalted) be He (Allaah) [above all that (evil) they associate with Him]
Who took His slave (Muhammad) for a journey by night from Al‑Masjid Al‑Haraam (at Makkah) to Al‑Masjid Al‑Aqsa (in Jerusalem), the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad) of Our Ayaat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All‑Hearer, the All‑Seer”
[al-Isra’ 17:1]
So he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went from Masjid al Haraam (the mosque with the Ka'aba in the middle) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia to Masjid al Aqsa (which includes the Dome of the Rock in its vicinity) in Jerusalem, Palestine. And from there he ascended to the Heavens and talked to various Prophets and finally, with God. Then he was returned back to this Earth and he returned to Makkah. There is much much more to the story of the night journey and the ascension, but just wanted to clarify that. So that ascension wasn't his death. It was just another miracle that happened during his lifetime.
Thank you for taking interest and confirming! =)
The Prophet Muhammad sal Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam was not a vegetarian. Please do not lie upon him. Off the top of my head, I can think of one major incident in his life where he ate meat. He was eating the meat given to him by a Jewish woman, which ended up being poisoned. And God made what is on this earth for us, and he made a lot of things permissible for us to eat. Those things are outlined in the Qur'aan. Check Surah al-Ma'idah (chapter number 5) of the Qur'aan. So God Himself is telling us we are allowed these delicious animals, yet you are telling us he's not. Please do not try to twist other religions to suit your agenda. Oh, p.s., our animals are slaughtered humanely if done according to the sunnah. The blade is really sharp, the cut is done with power and swiftness.
Do you not eat plants, then? If so, you do know that they are alive. How do YOU know they do not feel pain when they are being eaten? If you don't eat plants, then what DO you eat? ....soil?
Also, the animal sacrifice in Nepal was horrible. They didn't kill the animals humanely nor did they make use of the meat.
The Zulu bull-killing ritual is also cruel and inhumane.
Muslims, on the other hand, eat the meat and distribute it to relatives and to charity. And the way we slaughter the animal is humane: http://www.themodernreligion.com/misc/an/an_slaughter.htm
Our religion is perfect, Alhamdulillah.
these were some amazing pics of the haj which stimulate anu muslims to be more proud of his religious.
Wish for any body for join in haj inshaaalah soon.
I am fortunate to have a Muslim friend from Morocco who explains all about the Quran and other things to me. I have learned so much about the Muslim religion and it seems very peaceful and good to me. Happy Eid my Muslim friends!
All of the pictures are breathtaking.
MashaAllah... Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures. lets have respect for all the religions in this world and stick together.
Islam truely is a religion of beauty & peace for life, liberty, longevity & let's forget - life after death. May peace and blessings be upon all and to those that want to understand Islam more, please read the Quran/Koran. Inspiration & hope exists and one day, perhaps you too will visit (revisit) Mecca and be embraced by the Holy City's open arms.
beautiful, i wait for your compilations every Eid. Thank you for sharing this with the world!
Thank you for taking and sharing these images. Yes, we are one family. one Ummah of Prophet
awesome pictures...mashaAllah..
Subhanallah- these are amazing pictures, of an amazing holiday that brings about such unity!
I do wish there were pictures of Muslims in the West, however, especially in the States. Celebrations occur in America too- there was one in Universal Studios this year, in fact! Islam isn't solely a religion for or in the Middle East... and the pictures should represent that.
Still, the photographs are beautiful. Thanks for doing such great work!
Peace be with all of you
The muslim religion is good. It is the interpretation of the believers that makes it bad. ironically, when the prophet of the quran left his homeland because he is being hunted for his belief, it was a christian king who gave him shelter. The king drew a line in the ground saying "that is the difference between your belief and mine". but today they are persecuting the christians even when the quran says they are also people of the book....
Wonderful Compilation!
Beautiful, phenomenal, outstanding, exquisite, magnificent, fabulous, OMG these pictures are breathtaking.
Islam is great
All the pics are so beautiful and festive! except #20....so sad to see the palestinian waiting behind a caged fence to celebrate his eid.
i never saw such a fantastic and rare picture like these, ma sha
Allah,
may Allah Forgive the one who captured this image and the one who shares it
SIMPLY AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL,MASHA'ALLAH.
All pictures are really awesome... !Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures.May Allah honor us to visit The masjid alharam in Mecca.
Eid Mubarak to all the Muslims out there! I am remembering my best days those passes Mecca-Makarma and Madia munawara.
surprised,woh....amazing
its very very good
For all you believevers from the people of the book and those that believe in something else, and also those that fear whip-lash from living 'what goes around-comes around', and finnally the athiasts or complete non-believers (even you have at times fear to keep you in check-thats pure/devine not evolutionary - dont think cave-men were lacking in this since they were communal not individualistic), anyway, lets just enjoy the pics once more for what they communiate to us from this wonderful world.
Thank you so much for the wonderful pictures. Eid Mubarak.
For those of you who do not believe in any religion - seeing the pictures above does it not for one moment cross your mind about how can all this be possible without a god? how is it possible to just be there or be made by someone? there must be a greater force? i suggest you look into history and miracles around the world - ask questions from all religions see which religion answers every question.....
MashaAllah amazing pictures - imagine what it must be like to see in person - insha Allah.
Thankyou for uploading
breathtakingly beautiful. Thank you for the peek into how our Muslim brothers and sisters around the world share this day with us. A superb effort!

what dose hurt you about these picture and/or islam
is eating animals equal eating human
nice
wawwww super love them all
VERY Professional
Brought up in a WASP culture, to become a converted Catholic, I viewed the photos with a sense of awe and respect. I have lived my life taking every opportunity to embrace all spiritual beliefs. Some of my travels have taken me to Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Russia and Italy in a quest to learn all I can relative to other cultural lifestyles and beliefs. I have experienced spirituality that lift my feet from the ground and fill me with inner peace. I respect those who believe in nothing but themselves, but what a limited existence.
Salam,, Thats good,, may ALLAH blessed the muslim ummah nd help us in whole life with Quran nd Sunnah...
Subhanallah, it is very good picture and so inspiring
Beautiful pictures. Scary at the same time; so many people are willing to sacrifice so much for their believes. All people who believe in ANY god are so narrow-minded that it only takes very little to get trouble. Nice pictures, very scary "movement".
SubhanAllah. Pics are really Amazing. (Jazaak-Allah)
Thank you so much for the Beautiful pictures, and a very Happy EID to ALL.
Beautiful images
God is bigest
الله اکبر

Salam (Peace) to all,
Great Pictures!
Before talking or arguing about Islam please study it and provide facts. The one of many facts that I can state is that there is only one ALLAH (GOD), and that one day in the not too distant future, we will all have to answer to GOD! if you need proof, just go outside on a clear night and look up with an open mind!
Salam,
@162 :
Nice lesson of intolerance towards atheist beliefs.
Please notice :
that not only communists are atheists,
that if communism has a load of deads on its arms, religions are not bad either in that domain (especially chistrianism and islam, whereas they both preach peace and tolerance as far as I know),
that you don't need a faith in any religion to believe in the preciousness of a human life,
that atheism is not a lack of spirituality like you seem to think (an atheist BELIEVES there is no god, anyone who pretends to KNOW it is an idiot, and this is also true for believers, no one can know if there is a god, you can only believe it)
that considering that atheists have insignificant lives because they don't have faith is insulting and disrespectful.
Now, as you can notice, I did not make any disrepectful comment towards any other belief than mine, while I consider myself insulted by your attacks to atheism. I must have learnt somewhere not to reply with violence when I'm criticized... As you can see, religions do not own the monopoly of moral values.
Maasha Allah, breath taking and very touching pictures.
Thanks to each one of you, for your contribution.
Assalamu Alaykum !
eid Adha Mubaruk!
Mash'Allah beautiful pictures subhan'Allah :)
I love them all ,
thank you for sharing these pictures!
niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice pics ... they r full of life ... keep up the good work ... ^____^
#34 is not such a great pic.God says in the Quran about the animals which are sacrificed for Him"It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Him,but it is piety from your part that reaches Him".and also, the meat is not to be eaten by us alone, but to be distributed among the poor and the needy, the orphans and the wayfarer.
@141,our Prophet ate meat and even if not,the animals that we sacrifice for God are reminders of His Mercy. He tested His beloved friend,Abraham(upon him be peace) by asking him to offer his loving son for sacrifice to Him,and when he lay down his son prostrate,God called out to Him"O Abraham, you have indeed fulfilled your vision. This indeed was a manifest test. And We made him offer a ram in sacrifice." God doesnot want us to kill our children, but he only wants to test us.the heavens and the earth watched silently as Abrahamn took out his son to be sacrificed for God.
speaking from an ecological perspective,it is wellknown that herbivores occupy the major part of the energy pyramid, they are more in number as compared to carnivores,so the ecological cycle is not disturbed.also our Prophet(may peace and God's blessings be upon him)the person who is sacrificing the animal should take care to not do anyihing to hurt its feelings, the knife shouldnot be sharpened in front of the animal to be sacrificed and one animal shouldnot be sacrificed in front of the other animal.God is great,he tells us to take care of the feelings of even brute animals, whose feelings even we tend to neglect.
Good-looking really really keren, bisa taught me the method photographed like that
"one day in the not too distant future, we will all have to answer to GOD! if you need proof, just go outside on a clear night and look up with an open mind!"
Since when does the feeling of being nothing compared to the infinity of the universe constitues a proof ? It only proves our (human and completely normal) fear of death and of the misteries of life. But this fear does not imply there is a force to save us, help us, explain to us.
I wish there was life after death, I wish I could understand the world I live in, I wish I could know there is a beloving being that loves me and loves the whole world, I wish I could be forgiven for my bad actions. But it just can't be, god is too perfect to be real, it fits too much my hopes, yearnings, needs and wishes to be something else than an dream.
Amazing pictures! To the animal rights people, every bit of meat from the animal is eaten and donated, it is not wasted, millions of poor people depend on the animals from Eid to just survive. All the sacrificed animals are shipped to continents from all over, in particular Africa.
to people who don't believe in God,
One does not merely 'believe' in God.. but knows that God exists..
It's not difficult to think about it. Religion is easy. Believing in the Creator.
Just ask ur heart. Who created man. Who created the earth. Who created the galaxy. Who created the world that we know of.
Something or someone powerful must have created all of these, and people with religion calls this powerful creator God. My mind tells me that only something so perfect, so powerful, so great, so clever can create all of these.
If you KNOW this.. then go to the next step of studying each religion to learn more about the Creator, the King.
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!
May Allah grant us the blessing to perform HAJJ.
AMEN!
For once, I really wish everyone would just stop arguing. Really.
Enjoy the photography , it's absolutely beautiful.
Thank you Boston.com
I'm glad terrorism, war and killing has not been the news this time.
The majority of the Muslims are not terrorists :)
Again a big Thank you
the only ways to true freedom is in believing. what ever your religion - GOD IS EVERYWHERE AND FOR EVERYONE ...we need to feel guided...to belong. only then we will be strong.
MASHAALLAH!
Beautiful pics.
God is great.

"Gory, inexcusable bloodbath?"
Tell me, what are you doing to help the millions of impoverished people in the world? In case you don't know, one third of the meat that's sacrificed on Eid Al-Adha is given to the poor. But of course, you living in your luxurious and carefree lifestyle put animals ahead of your brothers and sisters in humanity suffering across the world. You're essentially saying you'd rather not see animals die, but are indifferent to the fact that PEOPLE around the world are dying because they can't feed themselves or their families. It's a funny world we live in, where animals have more rights and are seen as more superior to people. People in Africa, the middle east, South america and countless other places are dying due to lack of food, and yet all you can stand up for are the "poor" animals being sacrificed to feed these people...
Happy Eid Al-Adha for Muslims and all people all over the world
thanks a lot for these pictures it really touch the heart and reflects some real facts about Islam and Muslims.
Peace, Mercy and Allah blessing be upon you
Thank you very much for the amazing pictures, there are very beautiful.
Eid Mubarak Said Ala Umath Mohamed sala allah alih wa salam

@ 248
saying that you can't definitely say there is a God applies to the opposite, that you can't definitely say there is NO God. It's a question of belief, you believe or you don't, but don't think that the natural inclination of a person is to not believe in a Higher Power based on the argument "you can't know for sure there is a God".
Beautiful pictures! Except the one with the cow surrounded by blood. As much as I love my religion Islam, being an animal lover, I find it difficult to accept why we much slaughter all these animals. I know the history behind it & that it also feed the poor but I can't help feel sad to see thispoor animals being killed so we can satisfy our stomachs.
In response to 160, veglib:
Hey bud, it's cruelty if the animal suffers if only even for a minute. When an animal is sacrificed for Eid Al-Adha, it's done so by immediately cutting the neck. By beheading the goat/cow, virtually no pain is felt. Even beforehand, the animal's taken out on whatever field the farmer can provide, and all the preparation for the sacrifice is done in a secluded place so the animal can't see the blade being sharpened, thus making it nervous and anxious.
The world has a lot more to worry about then animal cruelty, though I agree with you, it must stop. But, this...this isn't animal cruelty. KFC stuffing hundreds of chickens in one cage, de-feathering them alive is animal cruelty. Preparing pork by continuously stabbing pigs is animal cruelty. Hanging cows upside down, while they're alive, to kill them in that position is animal cruelty. Hell, merely sharpening the blade before the very animals' eyes is animal cruelty.
There's a difference between sacrificing an animal humanely and killing an animal inhumanely.
Amazing pictures MashAllah. Love your collections! :)
MASHALLAH!
MAY ALLAH GAVE US STRENGTH AND POWER TO BE UNITED.
I THANK ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WORKED WITH DEVOTION AND COLLECTED THESE BEAUTIFUL PICS.

assalamualykum wa rehmatullah
Dr Mustafa - I am appalled that you use a prefix of Doctor and can't understand a simple thing. Re-read what I said, No religion allows eating a living being. Animals too have a family- a father, mother, siblings...they too have emotions. Look how faithful and innocent they are, they love you unconditionally. I am not christian, Hindu, atheist... just a human defending another soul.
I appreciate a lot of things about Islam as much as I do other religions. I've been to mosques and have Muslim friends. I just don't like the bloodbath in the name of god, irrespective of the religion we're talking about here. And no please don't justify a murder by the method used for it. A murder is a murder whether is a sudden death or slow death. That's it.
@Aysha - May I ask you a question/ Given a choice to murder a human or an animal - What would you do?. An animal most certainly - Right? Similarly I've been given a choice by god and I chose plants over animals. That's a lesser crime if you claim plants have life. The day we can survive on air, I promise I'd leave plants too.
Remember Prophet Muhammad had said “There is no one who kills even a sparrow or anything smaller, without its deserving it, but God will question him about it.”
Also remember, On the Day of Judgment, all dead creatures will come to life and will take vengeance on those who had either teased them or killed them. This is what Qu'ran says, my friend.
I won't reply after this. Please try to understand what I am trying to say. Ask your heart and forget what you've been told. Nothing can justify eating a life. Nothing at all. Sorry if this hurts you. I've nothing against any religion and this applies to everybody.
Thanks and Eid Mubarak!
I like it so so beautiful pic Maasha Allah and thank so Much abt that
Greetings Ladies & Gentlemen,
A correction to Post #218 by "Wildcat":
Sorry, "Wildcat" but Prophet Mohamed ( peace be upon him and All God's prophets) NEVER EVER asked any King for refuge or protection anywhere.
The King you are referring to is Ethiopia's King who was a Faithful Christian who understood the teachings of Prophet Jesus the Son of Virgin Mary ( Peace be upon both them ).
This King, indeed, gave refuge to some of Prophet Mohamed's companions. It's, also, important to mention that this Great King, became a Muslim afterward.
Sorry, "Wildcat", but I, also, have to remind everyone, here, that Muslims are the ones who protected the CHURCH OF Nativity and the Holly Sites where Jesus ( peace be upon him) was born and lived along with the Jewish Synagogues for 1200+ years. Islamic faith prescribes on Muslims to respect other faiths.
Islam's Miracle is the Holly QURAN. Check out for yourself to see if it makes sense. You'll be surprised of the wealth of information it contains for example:
- Scientific Miracles recently discovered
- Linguistic Miracles
- Historical facts
- Logic and defiance of the Human Mind and a lot more...
QURAN's translations are widely available in the net in most of the Languages.
Thanks for reading and Be Well,

stunning as usual Boston Globe. I hope you carry on this exhibition of Eid al Adha & Eid al Fitr every year.
amazing ............................................ ;)
thankyou i'm from London, UK and I will be using these photos in school so children can learn about the Hajj and Eid - a very good educational resource. Cant thank you enough!!!!
Masha Allah !!!!
I got so relief after watching this.
It is a pity there are not photos included which show the actual slaughtering of religiously acceptable animals. There is only one of a cow which hides most of the gruesome reality in favour of a pool of blood draining away from it.
There is no piety I know of in sacrificing animals alive and fully conscious by cutting their throats, much less so to do so in order to honour an inexplicable request of god for Abraham to sacrifice one of his sons.
The photo set would be far less pretty if it included the reality of what that sacrifice requires placed alongside pretty images of Mecca at night, and timelapsed photos of circumventing the Ka'ba. Far less pretty indeed.
Another yearly collection to honor Muslims in order to be politically correct. Where are the Christmas pictures?
for TIM 282 animals are made to eat for you and me they HAVE NO SOUL LIKE U AND ME AND THEY DO NOT KNOW THE DIFRENCE BETWEEN GOOD AND BAD, God created them for us to eat you Tim and I have teath who can bite meat and digest meat afcourse if you only like to eat vegitabels is your choice, OH YES THE MEAT YOU SLAUCHTER PART OF IT GOES TO ALL THE POOR PEOPLE OF THE STREET WHO HAVE NO FOOD OR MONY IT SEEMS YOU HAVE A VERRY SHORT VIEW . Really nice pics! Thanks! :)
great pictures, but never ever forget that islam is not only a religion.
it's a political system (with sharia laws, woman suppression etc) and religion combined.
whenever an element is questioned the response is always: don't touch our freedom of religion! even when there is no freedom of religion in any islamic nation
allah akber masha2 allah
beautiful pictures...
show how Muslims celebrates Eid...
thank good i am muslim :D
Seeing these fantastic pictures surely increase my desire to be a better Muslim and better human being, for it shows submissiveness to the Commands of Allah (SWA) and the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammed (SAW). All is done solely for the Pleasure of Allah(SWA) and it is only because of strong Faith that one Makes this once in a lifetime journey. The Love for Allah (SAW) and His Blessed Rasull (SAW) which is embedded in the Hearts of the Muslims is just Amazing . We are all praying for Good in this World and the Next and there is nothing better than this. May Allah(SWA) grant us all an Accepted Hajj and the rewards that go with it.
To 248 who is an athiest- start by reading the Quran and maybe opening your mind a little. You can also read Darwin's Black Box written by a chemist whose name is Behe from the University of Pennsylvania. In his book, he argues that the cell is too complicated to be explained by evolution because there is just not enough time to have evolved that complexity, We have reasonable estimates of how long our solar system has been here and he says that it is statistically impossible. There has to be design behind the cell. Darwin assumed that the protoplasma was a simple substance .
a continuation to athiest 248- The moral argument for the belief in God in that if you don't have a foundation for morality based in the transcendent, there is no foundation. You can argue rational, secular humanist principles all you want. At the end of the day, If you choose to be a moral person because you think there is a moral basis for it, there are a hundred million other people out there that can choose not to be moral and don't find a rational basis for it. So if they don't like you, they can kill you. There are people out there who have no qualms about killing other people. You need to re-think and re-think this again and again.
To Sarah, Jewelz, Sadik, Aysha and anybody else I might have missed, Thank you for taking time to answear my question about the Prophet and the Dome of The Rock. I am pleased that it was asked and answeared in a civil manner which gives me hope for the comment section of this wonderful blog. Once again, thank you.

Dear #282:
Islamic tradition set humane rules for the slaughtering of animals on Eid, centuries before PETA and the like. The animal must first be offered water before being slaughtered. An animal cannot be slaughtered in front of another. It shouldn't see a knife be sharpened in front of it. It needs to have its neck swiftly cut off with a single motion, using a sharp knife that ends its life immediately.
Happy Eid and thanks for the pictures :)
الحمد لله عل نعمة الاسلام وكفي بها نعمة

I'll will assume that your comment was intended to be humour, and accordingly needs no reply.
Eid Mubarak Every1 :) May Allah unite us all, and make us a good example all around the world. A tuff world for Muslims, and the best way to deal with it, is to be a good example and united, like the prophet PBUH wants us to be like one body, if a part of this body is ill, the whole body is suffering.

great photos
Sobhan Allah, Alhamd llah, La ilaha Ila Allah, Allah Akbar
I love animals, too--and, as well, am a devout RC... but the picture of the slaughter was reminiscent for me of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. It, too, was bloody. These pictures for me put such a beautiful human face (and animal face), i.e. the nativity (the donkey the Blessed Virgin rode plus the animals in the stable, etc) and the flight to Egypt (rode, again, on a donkey?) when the Holy Innocents were slain (male children under the age of 2)... we simply cannot separate ourselves from the violence of humankind/life on this Earth (if it is not ours, it is that of others)--which our Creator/Father turns into the most amazing goodness. We also cannot separate ourselves from "Life-Blood". It would appear that the Eid holy days are quite much related to our Mass--the Eternal Sacrifice (bloodless, in this case). In our country we have so separated ourselves from the animals we eat (a gift of the Creator for our Vit B12 and other benefits) as well as death in any real sense (it is mostly on TV and in the movies--with no emotion attached to it) we have to "make a silly scene" when it is portrayed realistically. Never mind that we watch football, soccer, or violent movies and TV shows. These photos were powerful portrayals of LIFE at its best--except the cold metal chain fence separating persons from their Wisdom/Creator/Wholeness... don't we do this interiorly as well when we are less than human? This interior separation is also artificial. Dear God, let us let others live so we can truly live. Amen
assalamulaikum and eid mubarak to all of muslims there......beautiful images...mashallah..
Thank you so much for these beautiful picture....the have really touched my heart! I can not find the words to express my appreciation for your post them so the world can see. God Bless You!

fantastic soulful shoots , what a great artist you are !!
after seeing these photos, i ascended to an extra ordinary better elsewhere ..
my comment here is nothing but a wish to be part of your art world ..
# 264 , Well Said.
If only we humans didn’t waste so much of time, money, hearts and our minds on religion, we would have invented Time Travel and Lightsabres, drastically slowed down ageing & eradicated fatal diseases, built colonies on Mars and Titan, and would have made enough food and smiles for everyone...
great pictures
These Photos just depicts the Hajj and its traditions.... So why all these comments...
I bet half these comments would not be there if these photos were about Christmas or anything that depicts west ....
Most People forget a very simple concept of Live and Let Live....
What Does it Matter what Religion one Follows.. The Basic concept of all Religion is the same... Beleive in God!!! Follow a Riteous Path!!! Dont Harm Others!!! Dont Kill!!! dont Steal!!! Well You get My Point!!!
Its Hight Time We Stopped Fighting over Religion.... High time we Learned from our Mistakes...
Live and Let Live!!!!!
and @4 Ofcourse Westerners hate Muslims post 9/11 or the London Bomb Blast and may more... Thats because it was advertised by the government and by the media as "Islamic terrorist"
So the Word Islam resonamtes in their minds as Terrorism...
Most Pepole dont realise that Islam Has nothing to do with it.... But Its Just a game of Power and Money... Nothing to do do with Jihad or Allah or Islam....
This Is Neither Understood by the Victims (westerners) or by the innocent and definately stupid (jihadis)
By Innocent I dont mean to say what they did was not a mistake... but you need to understand that all these jihadis have been brainwashed since Child hood!!! All they learn is misguded, misinterpretted Quran... they have been told over and over again that the west is responsible for their misery!!!
So Who do we Place the Blame On???
.
Picture 31 shows Muslim pilgrims throwing pebbles at a stone pillar representing the devil...?
I find this interesting on two points, Firstly, Islam is also built upon the Ten Commandments of Judaism... It states in the commandments
"You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
"You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me."
It is obvious that a graven image has been made in the form of the Devil, it is clear that Muslim pilgrims are engaging with this symbol or graven image as part of their worship.
Surely it is time for responsible theology and sensible human action through teaching which moves beyond the worship of imagery and symbolism in order to bring about enlightenment of the mind and the relationship of the person to the world in which they are born?
Check this personal blog of this year's Hajj

It is peculiar that the poster of post 317 claims that the terrorists of 9/11 were stupid, but then goes on to condone what they did.
Abraham(upon him be peace) was indeed a great nation by himself,as God says in the Quran"And when his Lord said to him"Submit",he said"I have submitted myself to the Lord of the worlds""God tested him in many ways, when he was a youth,he saw his people worship others besides the Almighty.he said about them"They are all my enemies except the One who fashioned me,He is the one who guided me,He feeds me and gives me drink and when I'm ill,it is He who cures me".we all fail to forget how we are cured after our illness,at that time,we would only pray to be well soon.but Abraham, the wise one attributed his wellness to his Lord, which was why he deserved to be called the leader of mankind.
His people, however were foolish and after all he had done to call them unto the Truth, they built him a fire and threw him into it.God said"O fire,be cool unto Abraham".
He was tested in somany ways,he was asked to leave his family in a barren land devoid of cultivation which he most faithfully did.when his son grew up and reached the age of helping his father,Abraham was asked to slaughter that beloved son of his and that test too he passed successfully.he was indeed the Leader of mankind.
Jazzak Allah kharran macha Allah nice photos.
What is beautiful of Pilgrim images
These are great pictures! Thanks for posting up these beautiful pictures showing the beauty of this religion when we see the extremists fighting in the name of religion.
I believe you provide a different perspective of the news and views through the beautiful pictures you post.
Ammazing...MashaAllah
beautiful!!!
Great images! ALLAHU AKBAR
Thanks for the amazing picture. See you again Eid Adha next year.
Your pictures are both beautiful and expressive, and I think it is a shame that so many of the comments are about religion. People, accept the art and it's beauty, love or criticize the photographs for what they are. You religion is yours - own it and worry about yourself and your destiny, stop worrying about everyone else and theirs.
great pictures mashAllah.

@ 314 Febin -
Really? Are we all so blind? The average "Westerner" knows that Islam does not = terrorist, but Islamic Terrorists did claim responsibility for the acts of 9/11 in the name of Islam.
The problem with being radical is that it taints the whole pool. As long as people are more concerned about everyone else’s souls and less about their own we will have war, misunderstanding of one another, and hatred. If you are confident in your beliefs it really should not matter what others believe. Most religions at some point have taken the liberty to claim divinity and righteousness in that name of their religion and have seen fit to claim the lives of the non believers as "god's" will and it is really sad that the ultimate proof of belief is the willingness to kill “non believers”. It is a very pompous and arrogant stand point and leads to more hate and misunderstanding.
Catholics follow the doctrine of the Pope – seen as God’s emissary here on Earth – yet he is elected by other men – God does not appoint his head of church.
Here is the real problem though – None of us KNOW anything – all we can do is believe, have faith, and hope that we are right, because in the end – you have to die to find out.
I find it funny that you are denouncing prejudice while telling us what “Westerners” believe, it’s no wonder people can’t get along.

To all my Muslim brothers, do you know the true history of Islam?
Worship of the Crescent Moon-God
Nabonidus ruled Babylon for 17 years until its fall in 539 BC. Although he was a neo-revisionist he still adhered to the time-honoured sacred rites of venerating celestial bodies as gods. Archaeologists have discovered a stone-carved relief depicting Nabonidus praying to the sun, Venus, and the moon-god, Allah.
The moon-god is depicted in artefacts as a crescent moon and later cultures included the addition of a star inside the crescent. Everywhere in the ancient world, archaeologists discover symbols of the crescent moon on steles, clay tablets, pottery items, amulets, seal impressions and cylinder seals themselves, official measuring weights, wall paintings, and jewellery. In ancient Babylon, the stele of Ur-Nammu has the moon-god crescent at the top of the list of gods as it was the most important.
Ur (ancient Babylon) has several examples of moon-god worship. More portable objects have been removed from their sites and are held by the British Museum in the Babylonian Room. Many small statues have been excavated and identified by inscriptions found on them as ‘daughters’ of the moon-god. Archaeologists working in modern Iraq have discovered and recorded thousands of inscriptions on walls and rocks indicating that Allah, the moon-god was regarded as the ruler of the gods at the time of Nabonidus’ reign. Archaeological evidence is overwhelming that the Allah of Islam is directly descended from the ancient moon-god deity represented in rock and picture by a crescent moon.
Once again superb pictures from Boston Globe. Thanks so much!
No one will betray their faith if they refuse to kill or eat animals.
Interesting pictures, thank you.
If someone wants to believe in more than one god or does not want to believe in any god, ok, that is their choice. We are not insulting or forcing them to change their views. They have to right to believe whatever they choose and we have to right to believe what we want to believe.
If some animal lover wants to miss out on BBQ and other meat food, sure, that is their choice. I love BBQ and meat and yet I love animals. Please do not try to force your thoughts on me.
We all can different views, let's not make a big fuss about the differences. It is good to have differences. Let's respect these differences.
Where ever we are, we feel one great and united Ummah on this big occasion. We Muslims are the one Global society celebrating Eid festival at the same time. We as a one Ummah following the teachings of Prophet Mohammad PBUH can defeat our problems if we stay united. There is no GOD except Allah and Muhammad PBUH is his last messanger.
Peace to all, Just to clarify something Posted by Waal November 30, 09 06:15 AM......In response:
The practice that symbolizes stoning the devil does not actually include any idols. The area used to be just a pillar, but due to the massive numbers of pilgrims, there was actually an extension made. The area is basically a huge wall that only represents a location of a historical account. Muslims believe these 3 locations represent 3 places where the devil tried to distract Prophet Abraham peace be upon him (and peace upon all the other Prophets of God). As the account goes, Abraham peace be upon him, threw pebbles/stones to remove the devil from his path.
There is NO IDOL there, no respect is given at all to the wall. It is merely made of bricks as a landmark.
You are right, "You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth." This includes people, money, beauty, fame, status, and one's self. All of those could be taken as idols (given love, attention, time, effort, and service) and worshiped by a person. But all 3 monotheistic faiths teach against that. Abraham peace be upon him was the father of the 3 faiths.
The ritual is a spiritual exercise to remind all the pilgrims that each individual needs to rid their own self of idols and evil temptations, and to struggle just as Abraham peace be upon him did that day, as he struggled to obey and follow his Creator's commandments, no matter the obstacles.
From personal experience, finishing this stage of the Hajj is a very moving event, which I was not expecting at all, and still lack adequate words to fully describe. It is like some heavy mass was lifted from my heart and shoulders.
Peace.
Thank you very much for these photos.
I've been many times there but haven't seen anything like it.
Thanks once a gain and God Bless you
Awesome boss...........very nice pics....
To #301
To imply that humane treatment is achieved by offering an animal water and keeping it isolated before sacrificially cutting its throat with a fast motion is a profound misrepresentation of counts as humane.
I realise that Muslims want very much to consider Islam as a religion espousing only the highest and purified ethics, but sorry, not by a long shot - when it comes to the sacrifice of animals, a drink of water doesn't achieve anything appreciable in that regard.
What *would* make it humane is if the animal were completely unconscious, and thus felt nothing at all.
As a non-Muslim, my respect to the noble Islamic World and it's people's.
A truly wonderful and humble religion and people.
Great pictures.
To 305- you misrepresented the article. He says his definition is broader than the NAS definition. As intellectual and intelligent human beings, we have to take our knowledge of the world as a whole, spiritually and intellectually. One of the great Muslim scholars of all time, Ibn Arabi (whom the West embraced) said that the problem is when human knowledge uses horizontal causation and relates things to things and other things to other things as opposed to vertical causation which is related to the knowledge of God. The knowledge of God is the noblest knowledgge.
to 305-(continued from last) Horizontal knowledge is not useful if it is not rooted in a belief in God. It is not salvific. The best knowledge is that of your Creator. One of the things about your intellect is that it can be correct about some things and therefore it assumes it understands all things. That is what revelation is for. There is a certain point beyond which a person cannot go with understanding. If someone is in a room all their life and another comes in and says there is a sky out there and grass and trees but the one in the room rejects it because they haven't seen it, they conclude it must not exist. that is just denial.
May Allah bless each and every one of us.
Actually, here is a question for all Muslims here: suppose that Mohammed was alive today (or suppose you had a time machine and could go back and ask him). Presented with the option, do you really think he would say 'do not use the modern method of killing animals whereby they are shocked unconscious first before having their throats cut'?
I can't picture him saying that.
To the many muslims and non muslims alike who have viewed these pictures of the Hajj. Bear witness that this is the only human representation of a "United Nations". The Hajj is the coming together of muslims from around the world. Presidents, prime ministers, doctors, laborers, housewives, scientists. The filthy rich, the dirt poor, young and old, black, white, arab, non arab etc. They must discard every symbol of nationality, rank and individualism. For the sake of unity as believers in the sole Creator of the Heavens an the Earth. Bear witness that there is no god except Allah, who is unique and has no associates. And that Muhammad is His servant and last Messenger.
Masha pictures are unbelievable. Awesome work, good job.
Appreciate the photography of a natural happening...
Jazak Allahu Khair

I'm glad that such a story was undertaken by Boston Globe. It is heartening to see!
It is simply amazing; mash allah! Shows us how as Muslims we do not have to celebrate Christmas as we have our own beautiful days of Eid. Goes to show what humble and beautiful festivities we have and just how much Islam is growing in this world! Beautiful photos praise be to Allah!!
nice. thanks boston.com!
@31 DM, are you trying to proselytize people into your belief system? It sounds to me like you are promoting and trying to persuade others to an organized way of thinking that is different from their own. For as much as you don't like religion you sure have a lot of faith in how your method of answering Ultimate questions is better than others.
SubhanaAllah Allahu Akbar. Islam Be United. Happy Ied Mubarak. Thanks for boston.com.
To # 317 by Waal
Dear Waal, Let me try to present an alternate explanation. In Islam and other monotheist religions, God is the creator and its a sin to symbolize him or represent him by a lesser creation. So making an idol and praying in front of him is considered blasphemy. However, is it right to associate such grandeur for devil? You can symbolize him with a statue just as your picture on your driving license represents you. Do you consider taking pictures of yourself or your family or your pet as blasphemous?
Stunning visuals indeed. But the image of blood flowing like a stream is anything but! That hits your finer sensibilities. After all there are things like mercy, compassion and...
Masha Allaah!!! Allah hu Akbar
EID MUBRAK TO ALL!!!!
i feel that the majority of what everyone gets wrong is the culture/religion boundary and how sacrificing as well as other things represent tradition in certain countries. i am muslim yet i don't partake in the sacrificing of anything.
also, the animals are usually eaten after anyways, so if anyone should be complaining it would be vegans.
Subhaanallah... very touching pictures that shows the greatest of this religion... Allaahu akbar..Allaahu akbar..Allaahu akbar wa lillaa hil hamd... Muslims faces all around the world... It is HUMAN to eat meat. Our ancestor also eat meat, why we should be bother about eating a meat?
Have you ever studied about farming? 1 buck cattle or goat can serve 20 does. To have excessive buck is useless for a farmer. Idul adha or qurban is the part of mechanism to balance this problem.
I've always wonder what's in the Kaaba....??
Muslim pilgrims to Mecca increases year on year...it should reach the max capacity very soon. Then what...?
The Mecca pilgrimage travel industry has grown to be a multi-billion $ market.....and why I'm not in it yet ??? :(

THANK YOU. . Wonderful ,A great sign that the muslim ummah exists. But we should be on high alert befor this last sign of show of ummah is finished.Plans for its implemantion had been made long time back. After being defeated by Salauddin Auby,King Richard the Lion Hearted stated on reaching London "we can not deafet ihe muslims by the sowrd , but by the only brains."So plans had been set to take the 3 Holy Cities, one they have taken two are left.
very good
Thanks for showing the real Islam and Muslims , this us ; pilgrims like in any other religion who belives that worshiping God is the main reason why we are on earth , killing and terrosim has no place nor an origin in our religion.

@268 : that's exactly what I said, I do believe there is no god but I can't prove it and I don't know it for sure. I totally agree with you, you must have misinterpreted my words or I just don't understand yours.
@Claire : I must disagree with you as my morals do have a foundation. I believe in the cristian values of love towards my neighbour. I don't believe in god, and it that sense I am an atheist, but as I was grown in a christian family I was taught of the chrisitian values. I do know them and agree with them, yet I do believe there is no god. It doesn't stop me from loving humans, respecting the world I live in, believe in charity etc. I agree with the Bible message, I accept it and I will teach them to my children. I just don't accept the concept of god and miracles. Read about french philosopher Comte-Sponville if you don't know him already, who sometimes defines himself as a "christian atheist" or "atheist christian".
Wow! Amazing pictures. But the comments section is just a sad read for me. Are you people really so insecure about your own religon or aethism that you chose to attack another. What do u get out of it? At least have the decency to attack Islam by getting all your facts straight first. And not all the information you google or wiki about islam is correct. I mean come on! This is the "internet" we are talking about here.
To all the Muslims a very Belated Eid Mubarak.
To all the Christians a very Early Merry Christmas.
Oh and btw to all the vegans out there. You all should really stop and take a look at your teeth. You have canine teeth for eating meat. Why were u given them otherwise? And dont say "As a test!" because then your not even trying.
Peace
Mashallah, beautiful pictures it gave my tears in my eyes. Inshallah one day I will go for Hajj. May Allah Bless everyone with alot of duas and prayers for our new year to come 2010.

united muslims:)!nice photos!:)
Ma sha Allah! Wonderful pictures! Barakah la feeq!
Beautiful pictures ! ! !! !
Great and moving pictures.. They symbolize the very concept, essence and wisdom behind being a Muslim, that is, Submission to the will of God (Allah)... Something what Adam(Aadam), Noah(Nooh), Abraham (Ibrahim), Moses(Musa), Jacob (Ishaq?), Joseph(Yusuf), David(Dawood) Solomon)(Suleman), Muhammad (Peace be upon all of them) did.. Islam is the finality of the teachings of all these Prophets of God begining from Adam (PBUH), for all the people to come. All of them taught us laws, love and selflessness while being submitting to God's will. People corrupted the earlier scriptures and brought innovation into the 'deen' ( way of life) and stopped practising the true teachinsg of their prophets.. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the last messenger of God, for the whole of world and not just for a particular race.
Atheists are the biggest 'fanatics', not believing in God is their religion and they are fanatics because they do not wanna hear anyone out and they choose to be blind in the heart of eyes as well and neglect and overlook so many signs in front of them, 'cause believing that hurts/affects their personal vested interests. Agnostics are different, they have denied all the false gods but searching ( supposedelY) for the one right God.
really very amazing wonderful Allah bless you always
To Tim,# 357. I read someplace, not sure where actually, that when an animal gets shocked, shot, hit over the head with a club etc., then the animals body gets a shot of adrenalin which affects the meat somehow. When the animal has its throat cut, then it slowly fades out. I am not saying that this is gospel or science but it is something I picked up along the way. Maybe the Prophets response to shock the animal before slaughter instead of the throat cut way would be that this is how God wants it done.I dont know. This statement is my 2 cents worth and should be regarded as worth a grain of salt. Thank you and have a nice day
Sob7an allah, this is a very touching pics, wallah made me feel happy for all muslims, may allah accept their 3ebadah and do3a'a... Ameen
Absolutely beautiful pictures...as always!!!
Though I'm a satisfied athiest, religious practice of any sorts fascinates me. They represent the overwheming variety of cultures and values present in this world. Isn't that wonderful??
To all the Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindis, athiests, and all the other people: PEACE :)
ISLAM means peace and recogonzes all prophets and their revealed books. One would not be a Muslim if he/she doesn't revers all prophets---Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Issac, Ishmael and others, peace be upon them all, in the same manner as Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and their revealed books---Torah, Injeel and others---like the last revealed book The Quran.
These pictures are wonderful, but do not depict the true spirit of Haj---brotherhood and its simplicity. All the males, irrespective of status, caste, creed, and color; clad in two pieces of unsewen white cloth; live in tents and sleepingon earth. All are on equal footing. There is no rich and no poor.
SUBHANALLAH...! This is juz DUNYA, JANNAH...? ^__^
We are all Allah's children. Prophets from the very begining have broght the same message of love, tolerance and kindness to others. Islam is not but progression of Abrahemic faith, Judhaism, Christianity and other religions - and as such is at the epitome of religious evolution. As such it offers the straightest path for a follower to his/her Creator.
May Allah guide us all to the right path. Ameen
Amazing, SubhanAllah. I miss Hajj this year as I went last year.
Eating meat is absolutely human. Ask Hindus who are forbidden in their religion to eat meat. More and more of them are now becoming meat eaters. Animals are God's blessing to us.
To Diego, #408:
If god wants it done that way, he is a monster. I still have difficulty with Mohammed saying such a thing however. If methods of slaughter involving shocking had been available in the 7th century middle east, I suspect that Mohammed would have been all for it.
Pretty sure that adrenaline would be racing if you cut an animals throat. My adrenaline races if I accidentally cut myself shaving. In any case, should this affect the meat, so be it: its still humane to shock an animal unconscious before killing them. Ethics overrules taste here.
These are beautiful pictures and I can appreciate the faith that Muslims have. I am Christian and my family was raised Christian. My daughter has since converted to being Muslim. I see by the pictures here that you are a very devoted religion. Thank you for sharing your pictures with the world.
ALHAMDULILLAH its awesome no words to say
SubhanAllah... We can see the Power of Allah in these images..
great pics man, alhamdlillah
this is for the comment no 317.
"Picture 31 shows Muslim pilgrims throwing pebbles at a stone pillar representing the devil...?
"
First of all i would like to tell you all Islam is not Build on Ten commandments of judism. IT is what you can call the Latest version of the Religion Ibrahim(Abrahim) brought. And we all know things were amended from what it was in original. We honor and we have a belive on ten commandments Which Moosa(Mosses) brought to his ppl. But 10 commandments of jews r not in the original form what Mossa(mosses) brought.
Secondly, I dont know what a weining wall is for Jews but does that mean if i dont know what is that for them(Jews) and can comment what my teachings are. If you can annalyse and see what happend in the history.
Prophet Ibrahim when taking his son Ismail(Ishmail) to fulfill Gods will. On his way Devil Tried to divert his atttention and at the same very points where these pillers are standing Prophit Ibrahim threw Stones at devil to keep him away. so to mark the points these pillers were build and not for worship the idol and as a ritual performed by Ibrahim Muslim throw stones at it. I think this will clear the point that these pillers are not for the worship perpose but to show the devil to keep away from us like Ibrahim did.
at the point "You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
What my teachings say is do not Share God with any other Idols. God is one and the Ultimate.

Paix pour tous
Shukar Alhamdullillah, we muslims need unity for success like in Hajj and follow the sunnat of Hazrat Muhammad Sallallah O' Alaihewasalam (Peace be Upon Him)
Mashallah
This paints a picture in contrast to the ones in the newspapers about the jihadist muslims. World would be such a better place if the ummah gives a call to the straeyd jihadis to drop their arms and come back to the mainstream.
Islam is a peaceful religion. Allahu akbar !

Very beautiful and expressive pictures! I was fortunate to attend the Hajj this year, my first one and it was an amazing experience.
Millions of people - of every race, color, nationality, shoulder to shoulder, walking around the Kaaba, as in pic #4, bowing in front of the Almighty, as in pic #5, to staying in the tents of Mina, as in pic #30, to staying in the plains of Arafat and listening to the Hajj sermon, as in pics #6 and #19, to spending the night under the open skies of Muzdalifa, praying/sleeping on earth whereever you could find an open space, to walking among the sea of humanity on the bridges of Jamarat to stone the devil, as in pics #30 and #31 - it is an unbelievably spiritual and humbling experience.
If you have been thinking of performing the Hajj, don't put off and just do it! You'll be glad you did.
Rest are all quite stunning photographs, I loved them all.
great pictures not sure we needed the blood spilling out of the cow though?
Macha'allah all the people in the world.
Even the Chinese!

These pictures bring back wonderful memories of my Hajj in 2004, alhamdulillah. And it's wonderful to know that there weren't any catastrophes this year.
A few responses to other posts:
- @ 317 (and 349, 370) - it should be noted that the pillars were erected centuries after the Prophet Muhammd (PBUH) passed away simply to mark the actual spot on the ground where pilgrims are to throw the pebbles. During the only Hajj he himself performed, he threw pebbles at three spots on the bare graound - no pillar. The idea, as 349 posted, is symbolic, and is not meant for the pilgrim to actually believe that he/she is really stoning the devil - more so that he/she is making a protest against the concept of the devil's influence, in a way expressing their rejection of the devil's advances.
- @344 - You clearly have your facts about ISLAM wrong (you may be right about the pre-Islamic historical significance of a crescent-shaped symbol about a moon-god, but that has nothing to do with Islam). Muslims have never, do not, and will never believe that God is somehow related to the moon. The word "Al-Lah" is literally the arabic word for "The God," and even non Muslim Arabs (including Jews and Christians), refer to "God" as "Allah". While "Allah" has been used in Islam's scriptures as the proper name for God in Arabic (it is the only word that literally means God), it is simply this - the Arabic word meaning God. So connecting it to some ancient notion of a moon-god named Allah is irrelevant and out of context. Secondly, in Islam, the scriptures make clear that God is the creator of everything, INCLUDING (specifically) the sun, the moon and the stars, and that they all have their fixed courses and all worship God in their respective "obedience" to his setting of their conditions (i.e., the moon's following it's set orbit around the Earth is it's way of worshipping God). So you cannot equate a creation with the creator, nor can you equate something that worships with that being worshipped.
- @378 - as to a max capacity, the Saudi's maintain a very tight control over the issuance of Hajj visas, and even have set quotas from each country. This year they also cracked down on "illegal" pilgrims - people who come into the country on other grounds, or even residents of Saudi, who do not file the necessary documents to obtain permission to perform Hajj, but try to join the crowd and do it anyway. While this may rub some people as an attempt to prevent the free exercise of one's religion (a right only guaranteed in the U.S. and not Saudi), it is a necessary restriction for the health and safety of the millions of pilgrims that do come. So the Saudis do have a means to limit the number of pilgrims actually coming for Hajj, so that if they start to approach a maximum capacity, they can stop issuing visas and maintain a very tight control over attendance. Even now, they have a very strict system requiring pilgrims to only attend via approved hajj groups, and everyone is given an arm-band that identifies their group, which also correlates to their assigned tent areas in Mina and Arafat, as well as restricts the times and manner in which they go to the Jamarat to throw the pebbles. They're trying to make it very organized. Hopefully it works to keep order.
To all the Hajjis returning, may Allah accept your Hajj as Mabroor. To all others, Eid Mubarak, and happy holidays.
subhan allah p.b.u.h prophet mohamed for spreading islam "the real way of life" to every corner of this world and we are muslims with one almighty ALLAH . these pictures exhibit true islam and its followers.

that is a sacrifice.. and you know that modern science has also approved that blood should be removed from the body as much as it can be before eating any flesh... its not healthy as well as it causes many physiological disorders... so our prophet (PBUH) told us that 1400 years ago... now that is a miracle...
Photos are excellent...

To #49- I have a challenge for you. Ask God with sincerity to show you the truth. If you come back to me and tell me that you SINCERELY asked God to show you the truth and He didn't, then I will reply that you have NOT done it with sincerity when you requested the truth. If you have convinced yourself there is no truth and no one can know it, then it will NEVER, EVER be shown to you!
My reply to comment # 373. Its not what you do and what you dont like to do..if you call yourself a muslim then your duty is to obey..GOD does'nt ask for your opinion here. Your duty as a muslim is to obey and not inject your own philosophy in religion. Thats the way it goes in religion. So please dont take it personal and try to correct your thinking about religion.
To #49-Don't Let anyone control your life! Remember that God alone knows your heart and He know sincerity from insincerity. Don't think that you can fool God by trying the experiment and then coming back and saying Hey! It didn't work!
The pictures on this site are the best I've ever seen. Each one says a 1000 words.

Dr Mustafa, we are omnivores and have consumed both flora and fauna for thousands even millions of years if you want to get into human ancestry. I respect what you say, but to be honest you come off as though you are the only right person and everyone else, and any other view or opinion is wrong. For someone who is trying to uphold the individualistic mentality that society has molded us to believe is the norm, you really don't care much about other people's opinions, beliefs, or lifestyles. If everyone and everything with life has the right to live, then respect the way they live their lives, and please don't preach to me or anyone else about right and wrong because people need to find what right and wrong means to themselves through their own experiences and then they can live the way they feel is the proper way. We do not need you telling us what is right and wrong, good or bad. People are entitled to their own opinion so please don't press yours upon us, thinking we will be open minded and you are right, when you are so hypocritical that you can't return the same open mindedness.
Masha Allah, great pictures.....

Muhammad, Ibrahim, Jessus, was His Messenger. Laillahaillallah.
Trinity Concept, well it's mean 3 Gods control this universe, how they can arrange that. One God want U to be white and others want U to be black.
For atheis, did you born alone?, who gives you alive, blood, heart, ? did u live forever? immortal?. When ur parents gone or people your love, who's took their soul? can they alive after the dead?. Only God's Power can do.
Allah SWT is One and Only God.
Muhammad, Ibrahim, Noah, Jesus, was His messenger.
Peace.

Subhan Allah Subhan Allah ...
I know Athiests that look down on everyone else. I have Christian family that despise all other religions. I know Muslims that would like to 'make business' with Christians and Jews; but who do not accept Buddists and Hindus because they do not believe in ONE God. Why does every group seem to "NEED" to exclude another group?
SUBHANALLAH, MASHA-ALLAH

can u imagine what that this strength of UNITED people can do? but the weakness v observe now a days is due to the reason v r not united.
may Allah unite us
Dear Friend Tim,
You have some kind of agenda to only criticize and assert your own way of thinking. There might be a background from your own painful past or bad life experiences.
Very simple thing for your to understand, not asking you to accept it, is that for a Muslim the best of way of living your life is to follow the ways shown by our beloved prophet Mohammad peace be upon him. There is no confusion in our mind about it and never had been and never will be.
Its one's own choice to live as one want. We haven't asked anyone to teach us how to live our life as a Muslim as we know the guidelines for 1400 years and are content with it. We also have the capacity and ability to fix our own stuff.
Peace be on you.
Alhumdulillah...All beautiful pictures..and so true that Judaism, Islam and Christianity are Abrahamic religions..why then do we fight...let's not...for the love of Allah...let's not fight....

It is a wounderful seen, the tragedy is that all this union of Muslims, evapourates after Hajj,Imagine if their hearts & actions is the same all the year around....they will change the world to the better, forever, like their predesessors did before them............inshaalah

Allah Akbar fi wihdati hadhihi el Oumah, wa manasikiha, wa macha2iriha, wa wihdatiha
Allah asked Abraham and Ishmael to build the Kaaba, and call for Hajj as they stand by its side. Allah told that He will make people come to pilgrimage from every deep valley in the world. Abraham's call reaches Muslims' hearts to this day. Every year millions of Muslims pay a lot of effort and money to travel to Makkah, even though it's not obligatory for those who can't afford it.
Praise be to God for the blessing of Islam and faith .. thank God for the unity and orthodoxy under the banner of "No god but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him.
Alhamdulillah SubhanAllah Laillaha Illallaho Akbar! May Allah forgive all Ummaa & bestow his heavenly blessings! Such picture can turn nonmuslims towards Islam if they ponder. Some beautiful pictures like these, remind us to come forward to love people & to hate the evils ! It's really wonderful ! Thanks a lot!

Best pictures ever assembled, God bless u, i now have the best screen saver for my pc, Thank you very much! The pictures are awesome.
Abraham, the leader of mankind,God rewarded him with good in this world and in the hereafter,he shall be of those honoured.all the Prophets who came after him were of his descent.Even when his people and father were given to sin and a heedless people,God rewarded him nevertheless, for His Mercy encompasses each and everyone. He says in Quran"Remember Me and I too shall remember you,and Thank Me and donot reject Me".Isn't He The Most Merciful,He is more Merciful to us than a mother is to her young baby. The Prophet mentioned that God is happier when we turn to Him than a man who went on a journey with his camel and his food and drink were loaded on it and the camel leaves him and goes elsewhere.he looks for it everywhere, but cannot find it.then suddenly he takes a rest having lost all hope of ever finding it,and he sees it standing there with its food and drink still with it.so turn to that Gracious Lord, for He is your only Friend.
very very god

You [true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÓáã) and his Sunnah] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah . And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fasiqun (disobedient to Allah - and rebellious against Allah's Command).

Photojournalism at it finest. Truly breathtaking. While I, myself, am not a Muslim, I am overjoyed to see the loving, peaceful and respectful (for the most part) comments. All too often, the comment section on devicive issues serves less of its intended purpose and more as platform for anger and name-calling. Its beautiful to see the Islamic commuity demonstrating its true nature as truly peaceful and loving people.
ALLAHU AKBAR, beautiful pictures of our deen, allah willing i will get the chance to experiance hajj

i cried for the beauty of islam through these pictures....
@141,actually you are right, our Prophet lived on a simple diet.He was a king in his heart, yet he lilved with his people, one among them, with the poor and the wayfarers, the orphans and slaves. He was a great leader and even when almost the whole of Arabia was under his control and he was their leader,he lived in his simple thatched house. He helped in the household chores, milked the ewe and mended his clothes. Before he was given the Message,he was very rich, married to the richest woman in Mecca. He left it all for His Lord and for his people. One day,his uncle, who was very dear to him, after being threatened by the masters of Mecca, asked him if he could leave the Message. Our Prophet started crying somuch and he replied"O my uncle,if you gave me the sun in one hand and the moon in the other and asked me to leave the message,I wouldnot leave it".That was howmuch he loved God and his people. After his death, all what he left was a mule and his house.Did he leave all these luxuries for no purpose.May God send his peace and blessings upon Him and all the Great Prophets before him who had to undergo somuch pain, suffering and torture in their call towards the One Lord.
Absolutely Stunning, So amazing how people from all over the world and all walks of life have one focus, The commitment to All Mighty Allah and His beloved prophet Mohammed SWA. I love being Muslim - Johannesburg, South Africa (Lets keep the brotherhood)

I am humbled by the devotion.
THANK YOU BOSTON GLOBE for your positive photo journalism. I've been a Muslim my whole life and I've never met a Muslim of the sorts I see on the news. The Muslims I've met and known are the ones represented in these pictures- people from all corners of the world- sometimes very simple people- dedicated to God, humanity, and unity.
(If Muslims were chaotic crazies, I don't think they'd be able to organize themselves in such straight lines in such numbers! lol)
Not only are the photos breathtaking and artistically superb, I know it is your directorial CHOICE to post positive images instead of negative ones. And for that I applaud you, in a time where it's 'hot' to sell the negative, black and white portrayal of Muslims, you chose to show the human side, the diverse rainbow of colors of a whole segment of the human population on this earth.
Waaw...this is amazing. These pictures are really the gist of what Islam is all about. It is also remarkable to observe the fact that internet (unlike western media) is playing a vital roll of spreading beauty of Islam as a whole. Thanks to Boston Blobe and publisher/photographers of these pictures.
JazzakAllah, Allah bless you!
Thank you Boston Globe for these wonderful pictures, let's try and get some pictures of the Muslim Community here in America.
These pictures reflects the love, the passion . the trust ,and the dedication
muslims have across the universe for their lord.If anyone would like to see heaven before dying, they should take a good look at these believers in total submission to their lord.
Looking at these pictures will smoothes the wrinkles in your soul.

Always Remember!
Hardship and ease are Trial for you.
Everything Allah (SWT) chooses for you; from good or evil, is for your benefit.
Whatever occurred to you could not have missed you and what missed you could never have reached you.
Sabr (Patience) is obligatory.
Rewards are only for those who become patient with the Decree of Allah(SWT).
Panicking and impatience cannot prevent the Decree of Allah (SWT).
Shakwah (Complaining) is contradictory to Sabr.
Allah (SWT) Alone can protect you from harm and ease your difficulties.
Thank you so much for Eid Portrayal, may Allah (SWT) reward you.
Thanks & Regards.

MASHA ALLAH! SO MANY OF US ALL AROUND THE WORLD... LOOKING SO UNITED, SO POWERFUL... SO CAPABLE...SO ENLIGHTENED AND DIVINELY GUIDED.. STILL, WE ARE SO HELPLESS, UNFORTUNATELY SO PATHETICALLY MANOUVERED LIKE THE SHEEP AND BUFFALOES THAT WE SEE HERE, BY OUR OWN LEADERS, AND THEY IN TURN BY THEIR LEADERS AND SUPREME.
MAY ALLAH INSTILL IN US THE TRUE SPIRIT OF ISLAM AND ALL THESE IBADAAT AND GUIDE US TO OUR SAFE FUTURE AND DESTINY.. AMEEN!

yaaa madinah
Good very nice
maasha allah very nice pics.May allah bless the one who show us these pics.
thanks for sharing this special event as I am not a muslim but enjoy this event of the year.Very awsome the pictures they are.
Image number 28 - Saudi special forces display some of their skills and equipment during a ceremony as they prepare for the influx people to participate in the Hajj,.... looks totally irrelevant and out of place.. not only that, they send a totally wrong signal to the otherwise wonderful message of Islam. I wish and urge that is taken out asap.
In the same way, image no. 37 Ð Muslim pilgrims touch the Jabal al-Rahma pillar on Mount Mercy Ð I think sends a wrong message too both Muslims and non-Muslims. It gives the wrong impression/knowledge that touching the Jabal al-Rahma pillar on Mount Mercy is a part of Hajj arkan [rites]. Similarly, images showing people praying on the top of Jabal al Noor sends the wrong message. Such images should be down played especially in such context.
May Allah give us the true spirit and right understanding of the Ibadaat prescribed in Islam, and save us from any innovation and unnecessary passion. O Allah guide us to the right path with true spirit and the right rational and understanding. Ameen!
subhanallah.alhamdulillah.la ilhaha illallah.allahu akbar.
subhanallah.most beautiful.a great collection of pics, thankz to all for sharing.dua mai yaad
Assalamo Alaikum,
To my all Muslim Brothers and sisters who are reading this msg, i would like to say that now a days in the whole world the image of Muslims is not the same as it was before .. Muslims were knowns for their brevity, humanity, peace loving people,,, but now they are known as Terrorist...
i request to all my Muslim brothers and sisters that please try to use the internet and spread the message to the world that we are not terrorist ...
forward the message of our Holy Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him and show to the world that we want peace around the world .. those are not Muslims who are killing innocent people, attaching , firing, killing and taking lives of children, womens and aged people ,, they belong to no religion they are just terrorist who are doing all bad things ...
all Muslims should spread these pictures on the internet to give a message to the rest of the world that we want peace ,, we want to have friendship with all the people ...

I am so proud to be a muslim and just love all muslims and wish they be happy, greatfull and forever strong in the face of the non believers.
May Allah bless all the muslims and for the person who took these great photos, you have made me honoured to be a Muslim, Allah bless you.
ALLAH MAY GIVE YOU ALL THE BLESSINGS: ALLAH U AKBER
ALLAH U AKBER - ALLAH U AKBER
The pictures were nice, the comments were surprising... I never imaged so many muslims would comment on these images. I guess entire features on Islam without some sort of dehumanization or giving a spotlight to the small percentage of extremists are kinda rare.
Of course the atheist bashing comments don't surprise me at all. You would think that the hated would find it hypocritical to hate.
These photos warmed my heart and provided beautiful memories of Hajj. The photography is awesome
Amazing pictures! They bring out the beauty and the spirit.
Masha Allah such beautiful images of Islam!
mashaallaha
most beautiful ,moving pictures. What a wonderful way to display ALLAH(SWT) THE KIG OF KINGS POWER AND BEAUTY.MASHAALLA
WELL DONE
islam in general and Mecca in particular demonstrates the universality of this great faith by the unique representation and gathering of all races, nationalities, color and ethnecity.no other piece of land on this planet has such a glorious worhip of the creator.
great pictures but muslims should lear from it and renounce all kind of violent behaviors against fellow humans which reglion allows to blow your self in juma prayers and kill fellow humans it is worst behavior than animals dog eating eating dog behavior
It keeps our hope to see that the Muslims will prevail and there will be PEACE on Earth. We need to feel and practice what we have seen in these photos year around. We need to be the muslim that spread love, forgiveness and mercy to all the things that Allah created. Ameen. we need to help each others and stand united as the people in Hajj.
Thank you for reminding us of what we can be through your photos.
I am very proud to be a Muslim. Beautiful pictures! These pictures touched my heart. Thank you for sharing the pictures and thank you for publishing the amazing pictures. May Allah bless all the Muslims and the person who took the pictures.

Yeah! Kyrgyzstan is there! It must have been freezing on that day in Bishkek.
Whether muslim or not the sacrificial act of the Prophet Abraham, may peace be upon him,has an important significance. The One True God will test everyone by that which we/they love and the sacrificial act is a reminder that we will be tested to find out if our loyalties and love to the One True God take precedence before any thing that we may love.
Wooooooooow this is lovely, Islam is the religion of World Peace!
MashaAllah, Very nice & awsome pictures
All thanks and prayers are for god almightly who has guided us to islam.

SubhanAllah. Thank you so much for putting together the above article; seeing the ummah around the world in celebration, together, from different countries and of different races really touched my heart.
May Allah(swt) bless you with all the good in this world and beyond for sharing the above.
I fully agree with the comments of email no.712, the 2 irrelevant images should be removed, lest they give a wrong impression to the non-muslims who look at these pics, otherwise kudos to Boston Globe for the heart-warming effort, wish a muslim newspaper had done this, May Allah unite us and help us get over our differences, implanted in us by our enemies.
MASHALLAH, SUBHANALLAH, ALLAH BE PRAISED FOR THIS WORK
Mashaallah, great photos!
Allah ho Akbar! What an experience to see these beautiful photos of Eid al Adha! It shows Islam is a Global faith and no mischief mongers can harm this faith of Almighty Allah!
These are incredible pictures. My husband just returned from the Hajj and it seems to have been such a magical experience. Thank you for posting these!
Masahallah............... Islam teaches and preaches muslim to live together with peace and harmony.........
Thank you BG... wonderful pictures!
These pictures are beautiful, but very very saddening to see the defacing of the holy sites especially Mount Hira. How can anyone, pilgrim or resident of Mecca, which is a city closed only for Muslims dare to spray paint anything on this blessed mountain. Astagfur'Allah.
I am an imam from Irving, near Dallas, Texas, and the Boston Globe never ceases to amaze me with its awe-inspiring pictures of the Muslim festivals of Ramadan and Eid.
Nigeria, China, Kyrgystan, Kashmir, Kosovo, Bulgaria, and of course Mecca and Medina...to name but a few...WOW!
Well done Boston Globe for showing the universality and diversity of our beautiful faith.
thank you Boston Globe
Muslim heritage in unique. It was satisfying to see Hajj and Eid photos all over the world. Surely the day is not far when this entire world will have one religion, ISLAM
SubbhanAllah, may ALLAH(SWT) reward you more than you ask for; for all your effort.I pray that ALLAH (SWT) may fill the heart of the ummah with the light of islam and we all become one.
May Allah(swt) bless you and your family.

Amazing pictures. Mashallah a wonderful and creative photography. As we can see that Muslims from all over the world live in peace and harmony contrarary to the terrorist image of Muslims in the media. May God bless the work of the photographers from Boston.com Thank you for an outstanding job. I hope and pray that we, as Muslims, will adhere to the teachings of Allah (s.w.) so as to get His pleasure. O Allah! Accept us among your obedient servents.

Only on few occasions we view objective and real representation of Islam and Muslims around the world. These are the Muslims; people who cherish peace and humanity wherever they are, who worship Allah ( God Almighty) in faith and submission. You can observe it in the eyes of children who appeared in many of the displayed photos. Picture 4 displaying pilgrims in tawaf ( the turning around the holy Kaaba in anticlockwise direction) as a 'human wave' is breathtaking. If Saudi special forces are not at their utmost readiness how can the Saudi control the mobilization of 2.5 million pilgrims. The caption should be explanatory. I believe this remarkable picture collection is rewarding to all Muslims. May Allah bless all those photographers who conveyed their faith and love in their artistic productions. Thanks to Boston Globe for showing the TRUTH. Continue seeking the truth in all aspects of life.
mashallah.... zabar das hai!! mujhe achcha laga
(very good...) allah is great.. lets pray o lord,
give us the best award!! (ameen)
Allhamdulilah I can see muslims all over the world coming to perform Hajj. This also gives me the intention to perform my hajj soon.
Why is the Photo no 18. kept in this site, what is the use of showing our sisters and mothers doing the salaat. I would request to remove that very soon.

Awesome and Admirable snaps!!!! Masha Allah!!!
masyaAllah the photos are beautiful! thank you...
Subhan Allah, Great and lovely picture! May God bless with His mercey on the photographer!
Thank you for providing such wonderful and amazing image of Islam to the world. May Allah shower you with endless blessing.
However, I do agree with the comment No. 712 posted by I.Amdoa as quoted below:
Subhanallah!!!!
MashaaAllah, very good pictures.
Ma shaa Allah. May Allah bless us and forgive our sins.

Thanks for all muslims on our eirth..may allah please all of us..al 7amdullelah rab al 3almeen..

Dear Brother,
Whoever has posted, the comment in picture 27, need some clarification, 1)''Prophet Mohammed is buried in medina's landmark mosque'' is giving a wrong impression( to Non-Muslims and some Muslims) that Muslims worship dead people and that all Mosques have a grave inside, It is not permissble to pray in a gravegard which is clearly forbidden by the Prophet(SAW). It is not his burial in his own house(NOT inside the Mosque) or a shrine which makes Medina Prophet Mosque the 2nd holiest place for Muslims but the clear statement of the prophet SAW himself which was BEFORE his death.
2) Mecca is not a shrine-Who is buried there??? It is the first holiest Mosque for the Muslims ---a place of worship to the Amighty God Allah SWT. The whole message of Allah swt in the Quran is to worship Him without associating any partners with Him in WORSHIP. So please be careful when you use the internet and be clear in your comments as this can make people go astray and make Allah swt guide me, you and all of us. May Allah swt bless all of us to guidance and seeking knowledge.

I am really speechless about the pictures, dear muslim bretheren lets show to the world at large that united we stand divided we fall.
Mashallah the pics are owesome, may allah bless the photographer, zakakallahu khairan
I agree with the commentator 712 about the pictures that send wrong messages and don't relate to Islamic doctrines; pictures 28 and 37 with Special Forces parade and the guy who is hugging the stone pillar don't relate to Islamic doctrines and have nothing to do with pilgrimage.
Thank you Boston Globe for a marvelous effort in depicting a great muslim celebration so vividly in beautiful visuals.
Eid Al Adha commemorates Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice in the way of the one Creator Allah even with our prizest posession- our progeny.
If only man were to fully comprehend the majesty of the Creator in giving human being reigns to fulfill a divine destiny.A destiny that we need to be mindful of and execute our talents in a way that proclaims God's laws manifest on Earth by making this world a stupendous place for all forms of life.
Great pictures. Was there performing Haj this year with my family. The photo of holy Kaaba where pilgrims were performing "tawaaf" shows people in a very hazy way, I wonder why ? Anyway good work done, it reminded me of my recent Haj pilmigrage. Thanks a lot,
SubhanAllah!!!!!!
Asalaam alaikum wa rathmatullahi wa barakatuh
I am American , and Muslim for 6 years, said my shahadah at the age of 49 and am 55 now . Thank you so much for posting these photos of Eid and Hajj around the world . I have never been to a country of muslims so as you can imagine Eid is a little subdued here in America and i have never experienced Eid as it is in the rest of the world . May Allah bless All of my Muslim Brothers and sisters , forgive us and have mercy on us in the grave and on the day of Judgement , and grant us a place in the best part of Paradise , Ameeeeen Ma'salaama

May the Almighty reward you abundantly for such stuff (pictures). Looking forward to seeing more of these.
The true spirit of Islam and the unity of humanity was shown in these photos.
There is oneness here, gone are the discrimination of nationality, color, status. We all stand shoulder to shoulder and praise the Lord. No other religion has this unique gathering of all people from all over the word.
Stop the hate, violence and terror that has given a negative image to such a beautiful religion, and just follow the footsteps of our holy prophet.
Thank you for the photos.
Its an amazing moments.........................
I was there.. ALHUMDUILLAH, I have completed one of the pillars of ISLAM and I was invited and the guest of ALLAH (SWT) visiting the grand mosque and performing once in a life time journey. Hajj is the journey and I expect every pious believer to make the journey possible when they are young. When you folks first see KABA for the first time in your life time... Please make a following dua: 'ALLAH (swt), please accept any dua's I make after this dua'. Any one who makes a dua after seeing the house of ALLAH for the first time his/her dua's are accepted. Please make dua with the sincere intention. INSHALLAH, I am planning for my next Hajj next year.

An important fact to keep in mind for those who have / have not done hajj yet.
If life AFTER hajj is no different from
life before hajj,
then there is a possibility that your hajj was flawed/not accepted by the Allmighty.

Thank you very much Boston.
I completely agree with Mr Abdul Razzaq
he is completely right, Madina is the second holiest place in the world, and the prophet Mohammad Mosque is located in Madina, Prophet Mohammad PBUH made the first Islamic society and the first Islamic government in Madina, so Madina is the first cradle of Islamic government.
thanks

In the comment, no. 782, Brother Wedada Mostafa says: ....
" ...If Saudi special forces are not at their utmost readiness how can the Saudi control the mobilization of 2.5 million pilgrims..." [Posted by Wedad Mostafa December 7, 09 01:00 AM]..
In response I urge you first to see the deadly gadgets the force are wearing.. and their aggressiveness.. they pose as if they are marching to capture the terrible world with those deadly terrorising machine guns and other gadjets and weapons.
Are you suggesting the Saudis need such frightening force to control the unarmed, God fearing pilgrims?
On seeing that image, a non-Muslim friend of mine asked me, why does one need such a terrifying force with equally terrifying guns, and gadjets to control the innocent pilgrims?
How could we answer him? Any suggestion?
what excellent pictures !!! indeed Islam is the perfect religion of Abaham, Jacob, Noah, Jesus and Muhammed may peace be upon them.
Mashaallah,amazing photos....
there's no greatest than allah al hamdou li allah thousands thanks boston globe.

Nariman
Beautiful pictures MashAllah. My brother and I really enjoyed viewing these inspiring images.
Subhanallaha , I have no words to explain my feelings.
All pictures are very useful and informative.
Sisters praying indicates all have equal rights in Islam, touching of the rock is a salute to the places where our Prophet and or his companions moved around in the past, Saudi forces are not watching the pilgrims, they are protecting them from stupid Talabans who are women and children killers OR from other enemies of Islam. May Allah SWT bless the person who put up these memorable pictures together....
Mashallah
Allah O Akber, It is great to be accepted by our Creator for his abundant Gift of Life to Us. Aameen

i think and i am sure that it is the most beautiful place one would visit!!!
I am SO proud that some Muslims are able to portray true Islam, in its unity, tolerance, humbleness. We need more Muslims to do the same. It doesn't have to be in the same way, but everyday actions and behaviour reflecting the ethics and religion of Islam such as HONESTY, humbleness, mercy, generosity, obedience, love for others are what a Muslim, great or small, influential or not should shield himself/herself with.
ALLAHU AKBAR.ALLAHUAKBAR

Jazahumullah....all those who contributed these wonderful photographs and made it possible for us to see them. May Allah bestow upon all muslims of the world an insight into the true spirit and teachings of Islam so that they are able, each one of them, to carry forward this spirit to the rest of people not yet conversant with or having a distorted version of it.. aameen

Regardless of what anyone's believes are, i don't think anyone wouldn't like such an extremely proffesional pictures. Put yourself in the place of that person watching the sunset from the top of the mountain thinking:"Who made all this universe? that sun going down behind the earth, leaving darkness behind, etc... etc... ?" Don't you think you will be lucky to have such a chance away from the modern life which is keeping you extremely busy 24/7. Each of the photos worth a big prize for the photographer who took it. Every human on earth is required to read about all religeons away from his/her previous thoughts to get to the facts which will convince him and then he can be a good follower. Do not rely on people's thoughts be yourself and decide for yourself.

Amazing and very stunning views of the mosque and sun rise, all the brothers and sisters of islam, and made tears rolled down from on my eyes, apart from different colour and gender and nationalities, only one "shada"-"LA ELLA HA ILLLAH, MUHAMMADURR RASULULLAH" tie us all together.....amazing.......very touchy, i'm sure it gives you the feeling.... one huge family.....my people....my family......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-
ENJOY.................
mashaALLAH,soubhanALLAH,alhamdouliLAH,la ILAHA illa LAH, wa LAHOU AKBAR .
Islam is the veracious religion and will remain it until so that ALLAH will inherit the ground and what it contains, and these photographs shows our splendid religion " No comment" :)
Comments 884 says... "touching of the rock is a salute to the places where our Prophet and or his companions moved around in the past..."
The above comment may read and sound very spiritual initially, but this is how "bidaat"/innovations [which our Prophet SAW has strictly forbidden us all] creeps in our Deen/religion. It looks nice initially, but in the long run, if not checked or acted upon wisely, will lead us to anti Islamic/anti faith rituals and beliefs. So many muslims today, unfortunately have so much moved away from the true spirit and ibadaat of Islam, that quite many of their rituals/ ibadaat could hardly be termed as Islamic in true sense at all. Muslims, watch out. Please don't innovate anything in Islam simply because you like doing it or simply because it looks or sounds great. Please try to understand the true rational and spirit of Islam well.
Also, the comments further says.."Saudi forces are ... protecting the [pilgrims] from stupid Talabans who are women and children killer..."
Such unfounded, baseless, misleading and speculative thoughts/ comments should not be allowed on this otherwise quiet, calm and spiritual comments board. Editors please come in.
Ma shaa' ALLAH and Al hamdollALLAH

masha allah,, such things wake us from darkness. alhamdulillah
Thanks indeed!
Great pictures taken, i would love to thanks to those once again, especially picture number 4 is the most attracting to me, because All '' turn to Him ... May Allah accept all Muslims' prayers and i wish that those who did not have the opportunity to visit these holly places af Prophet and his Companions, could make it there as soon as possible...this is Muslims' common place where many different nationalities and races come together and point out to Him saying ''There is no Allah other than Allah'' and prostrate before Him. Oh Allah do not burn us all with longing!!
Happy eid once again,
Istanbul/Turkey
GREAT JOB BOSTON .
MA SHAA ALLAH !

Subhan Allah, Pictures are very beautiful. Thanks to each and everyone for sharing with us. Allah bless each and everyone "Ameen
Excellent Picturezation work done
The most beautiful images i have ever seen, makes me feel honoured to be part of this great nation. However I would like to comment on the last photo of the pillar of Arafat. This is showing us a practical example of shirk. Touching or bowing to a stone pillar can do nothing for us.. Praying to Allah Will. AH I have just come back from Hajj, and there was a lot of these practices going on, where the rocks of Arafat are covered in graffiti, as well as this pillar. This was just one example, there were more of these practices at the cave of Hira and at the Kaaba itself. I would like to please request my brothers and sisters to please be aware of pagan practices and abstain. We are muslim and should not be de-facing these rocks or imitating non belivers when showing our love.. Your brother.
Amazing pictures.....May ALLAH swt give tofeeq to every muslim to perform Hajj.
Life is soo short, a wise man should prepare himself for akhra while he is alive
MAY ALLAH BLESS ALL THE MUSLIMS ON THIS GLOBE, AMEEN
its amazing pics
Everything is superb, just let us differentiate between 'Makkah' and 'Mecca' If I'm not mistaken 'Mecca' is the place of wine where non muslims prepared to insult Muslims. But 'Makkah' is our Holly Place, City and Great Mosque in the Whole World. SUBHANALLAH!!!!!!!!!!
ASALAM ALAYKUM WARAHMATULLAH WABARAKATUH MUSLIMS
thank you for this file
Infinite thanks to Allah for the invitation to complete Hajj. One of the reasons the Saudi soldiers ared dressed as they are is to intimidate the Shia when they gather for any group prayer or commemoration, even when they have secured clearance from the government. The custodians of Mecca and Medina are financing movements inside their own country, yes they own it as it carries their tribal/family name, as well as here in the US and throughout Europe, to marginalize women, kill other Muslims as well as other people who worship in ways they do not approve of. And too many of us are swept up in the ignorant tidal wave of narrow minded thinking.
Suhan Allah
The pictures are very powerful, vivid yet very graceful though. Well, it sure captured my attention. Brava.

Really nice pictures they were really well good job to those who made them...
This bashir from madina really it is very good masha allha betiful pic
Subhan Allah! great pictures. Islam preaches equality and sacrifice. All Muslims just wearing two piece of unstich cloths, no discrimination all white , black, asian, african together like brothers. This slaughter is of only those animal (sheep, cows) which Allah has made for mankind to eat. And this is the rememberance of Sunah of Prophet Abrahim who was ready to sacrifice his most beloved thing;his son Ismaeel in the name of Allah. When he blindfoldedly moved his Knife over his son. Allah replaced a sheep instead of his beloved son...SubhanAllah...the test of Abrahim was over......People must know the History before commenting on it! Islam only preaches love and Harmony.....
Great Pictures
thank you very much for these great photos that shows the real islamic world, full of love.
hafiz omair
hmmm... I wonder what kind of a world we might have if all that energy and effort were expended in a useful purpose. Religion is such a joke.
Thanks for sharing. I wish there were photos of Eid celebration from USA also. Many folks are all over USA and Canada.
Salam & Best Wishes from
Chicago, Illinois
dharmous: The question about #33 is still unanswered. Why is the photographer not visible in the pic?
The photographer can not be seen because he is standing at an angle that is not visible to the lens. He is on the right side of the eye with the lens directed to the left. Try that in front of a mirror.
And of course, some great pictures. I was there last year shooting a documentary on Hajj. Great feeling.
To all the haters, come on guys, get out of that frame of mind and for once appreciate something for the beauty it holds than commenting on the handful people that have made it look ugly. for once stop muslim battering and appreciate them for following the Prophets of God from Adam to Mohammad PBUH. Why dont you guys get a life.
Subhanallah.. Allah is great.
Reality, can you change, the sun the moon the galaxy or an ant, do come out of fear and ignorance cocoon to see what your creator “Allah Bari Tala” orders you.,Yes he command you, he is powerful and helpful, if you want him.

Subhana Allah,
This was a fabulous way to view cultures, and different ethnic groups from around the world on Hajj. In addition, for children to be in touch with visual diplays of what their parents are doing on Hajj, along with those who returned and wanted a flash back of how this religion confirms our beliefs as Muslims in our five pillars of Islam.
Masha Allah, I cried and know that "Allah Knows What We Do Not."

I have just returned from Makkah. Every Muslim Inshallah must have a chance to visit the holy sites( above). It is truly a discipline like no other gathering in the world. A very spritual journey. amazing, that no government or force can bring 3.5m people in total harmony under 60 sec, (without force)except the little man (imam) of the Grand mosque when he says ALLAH U AKBAR. 3.5m people in harmony in prayer-What a sight!!

People are seeking God. Is God seeking people?
imagine you are getting an award, you wait eagerly for the day to receive this award, when the day finally comes after somuch waiting, you are finally happy on having received it,but the moment of happiness is so short,we even start wondering if it was really worth all this waiting.we naturally wish for pleasure that is never ending, reward that is everlasting ,which is why it is so pleasing to think of such a world that will come and any good deed, even the weight of an atom will be taken into account and you would only regret you couldnot do more.
A highly impressive event world wide. Let those creating negative notions of Islam have change of heart; for Islam is peace
Nice pictures!
What a privilage we have, we don't have to slaughter anymore or travel to some places, as Isa says we will worship our FATHER in Spirit and in thruth.

SubhanAllah, when I first look at the pictures I could not hold my tears in asking Allah to forgive all of us and praise Him, Who chose this beautiful religion for us. And for the pilgrims, may Allah accept their hajj and answered their du'as. And for us who haven't been there to grant us the means to make it one day if He wills.
Magnificent, beautiful pictures.
Jazakallah and sukraan for the good effort and reminds us to visit the House of ALLAH SUBHAN O TALLA on every possible occassions. We muslims should also remember the secrifice our beloved Nabi did for us. Not forgetting the Sahaba Karam (RA). and let us also do sacrifice for islam.

Absolutely great. I have no words to express feeling, completely lost. This is the beauty of Islam. Pictures remind of all the places in Mecca, Medina, Mena, Muzdalifah and Arfat. I am really greatful to Almighty Allah to be born in a Muslim Faily and wish to die as a Muslim and find a place jennah. May Allah bless the entire humanity to come to terms and embrace Islam as their religion (Ameen).
@981,well actually you are wrong, the animals that we slaughter for God are to be distributed for the poor and does it cost more than the expenses for the futile war budget?
@1011,did you come across those pics from Hubble Space Telescope,by the Big Picture, such a wonderful collection,it is a bigger sham that you don't have a mind which can appreciates such majestic beauty and see your Lord through it.you laugh a lot and you don't cry?

Amazing photos, awesome photography, i wish i was there too with my family.
Subhan Allah....
An amazing illustration of the Allah (God)-centered faith of the Muslim World. This is a far cry from the superficial understanding of too many Americans, thinking that all Muslims are either terrorists, or nothing more than followers of a "false religion." The God of the Bible, the Talmud and the Koran, is a God Who is pleased with those who seek Him, and glorify His name.

Absolutely incredible. Sub7anak ya rab! May Allah SWT protect us from evil and shower us with his mercy and blessings, May he accept our fasts and our prayers and allow us the opportunity to experience Hajj in our lifetime. Ameen
SubhanAllah (i.e. God is so far beyond what others accuse Him of). Alhamdulillah I traveled to Hajj as an American convert this year and Hajj is such an obvious illustration of the truth of Islam. So many people from every race and color coming to gether for one purpose: to worship God.
Pilgrims wear a white cloth that does not distiguish them from the others - so no one knows who's a doctor or a brick-layer. In Muzdelifah (place that pilgrims stay overnight during the actual pilgrimage) pilgrims from every background lay near eachother under the stars to sleep (i.e. no formal lodging here overnight) - when else will I be near sisters and brothers from Africa, Asia, Europe...? What other religion on earth can do this? None except God's religion: Islam, submission to God's will.
Marshallah!!
Subhanalla.
Thankssss alotttttttttttttttt for posting these photos, they're amazing....
Thank you so much sister for sharing this wonderful pictures, the Ka'bah so wonderful is like our thombprint different everybody (around and around every second different movement).Remembering Galaxy.

I was born christian and practiced Christianity, but when a friend of mine handed me a copie of the holy Koran one afternoon i took it and red it with suspicion! Well let me tell you something my friends, it was the best book i have ever red in my entire life... It was a mind and heart opener for sure. I realized finally that now i know the truth and no one can ever take or twist my believe. Now i am introducing the Koran to members of my family.

MASHALLAH!!!! The photos are really nice. I went to perform Hajj recently just this November and it was really amazing there! I think more than two million piligrams partipicated in the Hajj piligramge. However I don't have the excat population figure. The temperature was very high as humitiy. For example, if you wake up in early morning for Fajr prayer in Mecca, the temperature would be around 30 degree celius...Too many people there as it is often croweded everyday. Found many people from every background of nationally. May Allah keep us on the right path!!
Mashallah; Ya Allah please call us to see your holy city and lovely place
really awesome. shows how great it is when you are united for one common cause. hope other ppl can learn from this
Subhanallah Mashallah. Wonderfull Scence
@1173
Yes,Islam is a religion of peace and I believe all religions revealed by God stand for peace.Muslims greet each other saying "Peace be upon you".Our pious predecssors fought because their enemies wouldnot let them practise their religion.Any believer is rewarded for a sapling that he plants which provides food for man,an animal, bird or even insects.
About sacrificing the animals,I don't feel it is cruelty to kill an animal and distribute its meat to the poor and the needy who rarely get anything to eat.Besides,God tells us to take care of even the feelings of the animal to be slaughtered. An animal shouldnot be slaughtered in front of the other and the knife shouldnot be sharpened in front of the animal to be slaughtered and it is slaughtered such that least pain is inflicted on the animal.Indeed,Islam is the religion of peace.
Maasha Allha-Subhana Allha- Allhamdulillha.

Superb collection! Thank you.
Hajj symbolizes the unity of the Ummah, among other things. When we look at today's Ummah, do we see this unity? Set aside the Ummah for a minute, how many of those who were actually at Hajj in 2009 display an understanding of this notion of the unity of the Ummah?
Allahu a'alam.

Much thanks to the photographer (Alan Taylor?) and the Boston Globe for an outstanding portrait of this very special journey. It was touching to see the true signs of peace versus what has become the status quo images associated with Islam in the media today. Kudos to the Globe.

how come there are not many pictures of muslim women in this collection?
All muslims slaughtering animals on the same day because of some mythical story is so lame!
Enjoy ur life, but thank the Lord who gave you this Life to enjoy.
@1311,well,we slaughter the animals on that Day to feel the Unity of Mankind, under that One Lord, that Lord who tells the Fire"Be cool and Peace unto Abraham" and the Fire becomes cool under the Command of its Lord,we slaughter to remember that God will never leave those who stand by Him,we do it and we remember the willingness of a great man who was ready to do anything for his Lord,so that he would even be ready to slaughter his beloved son for his Lord,he loved his son,but he loved his Lord more,we slaughter the animals on that Day to remember the great act of a man,but the Greater Kindness of a Lord, who sees and loves us all.

For those who thinks that slaughtering/sacrificing cows/goats during those periods just because of the history...let me get it straight. Muslims sacrifice cows/animals on that day for distributing it to the poor families who cannot afford to buy meat for their meals. This is the most waited days for them okay. where they can eat halal meat and enjoy them. Most people think it's just plain history but did not looked deep inside. everything in Islam that we do... not only have outer meaning but deep meaning. it's up to us to do a research :) peace
MashaAllah ..... Awesome pics..... Really goodones....
