Days of Autumn

Autumn is here - a time for transition. In the northern hemisphere this means cooler, shorter days, the appearance of colorful foliage, harvest time, and feasts and festivals. Collected here are 34 photos of the season, from around the world. (34 photos total)

A red stag stands in the early morning fog in Richmond Park on October 11, 2008 in London, England. Autumn sees the start of the rutting season where the large stags can be heard roaring and barking in an attempt to attract females. (Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)

Great stuff, I like these roundups with pics from all around the world on a single theme. It's worth pointing out to people who aren't familiar with London that Richmond Park, and those stags in the first few photos, is in London itself. It's a wonderful park often overlooked by visitors.

What a wonderful theme, and these selections are fantastic. The provided photo of the cranberries under water took my breath away. Autumn is my favorite season, but I've moved to San Francisco where a typical East Coast fall never happens. Thanks for giving me a taste of what I'm missing back home.

What a great blog.

I continue to love the pictures! But, isn't it kind of strange to include a recent picture from Kenya in your "Autumn" series? The town mentioned in the caption is no more than a couple degrees *south* of the equator.

@ #37: Cranberries don't grow under water, but the fields get flooded for harvesting, as the berries swim on the surface and can be gathered there.

Andrew (#69),
The place in Munich is not Hofbräuhaus but Theresienwiese where the annual Oktoberfest is being held.
Hofbräuhaus does have a beer tent at Oktoberfest, but it's not the same place.

Fantastic pics as always, thanks!

Posted by Norbert October 16, 08 02:22 PM

"Theresien..." comes from "Therese" an bavarian Princess: "Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen".
"...wiese" means "grassland". The Theresienwiese is a open space of 420.000 square meter where the Oktoberfest takes place

Prost!

beautiful pictures. but i do not like two things: my country is, as many times in the states, represented by bavarian oktoberfest. there are far more beautiful things to see in germany's autumn. also, i do not understand how you can call the security fence between israel and the palestinian territories "israel's separation barrier". yes, it seperates, and that is a sad thing. but in the first place it safes lifes. israel has the right and obligation to protect it citizens.
