Another Quick Note
Hi there, another short note from the author, just a few things.
1) You may have noticed that there are very few advertisements on The Big Picture. We are hoping to preserve the current format, and run the blog as a sponsored feature.
2) Next week, The Big Picture will shift to 3-times a week. Daily can be fun, but it'll burn me out very fast. I know I mentioned this before, but there have been many thousands of new visitors since then (you are all awesome).
3) Links! Until I get a proper blogroll running, here's a short list of some great photojournalism sites out there:
- Reuters Photographer Blogs some awesome stories behind the photos
- Getty Images News Blog some more stories behind the images
- World Press Photo Interviews video interviews with the photographers behind last year's award winners
- A Photo Editor blog by Rob Haggart, former Director of Photography for Men's Journal and Outside Magazine
- Best Seat in the House Photography, sports and life as seen through the lens of Seattle Times photographer Rod Mar
[edit, adding one more link]
I can't believe I forgot to post this one as well - Another like-minded blog in the Boston.com family, Long Jaunt. LJ is a travelogue/blog documenting a trip around the world, put together by my friend and co-worker Thushan Amarasiriwardena, and his two partners Michael Kurtz and Brian Rogers. They started in Central America last December, and have now made it as far as Sri Lanka, give it a look. Browse entries and photos by regular blog format, or calendar dates.

There are also non-newspaper and non-magazine photographers with great websites. I hope you'll give them credit too.
That 3 times per week thing - a good decision. It's better to slow things earlier than to find out one day that you are too exhausted to make one post per week.
It's a great Blog! Thanks for posting it!
Thank you for everything.
Cheers from Rome, Italy.

I was introduced to your site yesterday while at work. I was forwarded the link to the pictures of the Iowa flooding. After I got home last night, I went to your blog and looked at everything you've posted. GREAT JOB!!!
Will look forward to checking my new "favorite" site!!
I'm passing the link on, I can't stop telling people about it.
What I can't figure out, is why does no other news site seem to feature large pictures so prominently? The web seems like the perfect venue for this.
thanks Alan! Great feature.
Love your posts , especially the big pictures!
Great job!!
Outstanding blog so far. Thanks for the great pictures and hard work!
Totally support the slowdown - you rock, good luck with the advertising.
No problem Sir and Thanks
For those interested in the story behind the Big Picture, I interviewed Alan on Waxy.org.
Brilliant photos, thanks for putting them together.
There is already another well known blog with the moniker "The Big Picture." Shouldn't you try something more original in order to avoid confusion?
Love the format. Love the photo selections to tell the story. Few reputable sources uses photos to tell the news anymore. Can you also provide links to the source photos? Went to the NASA-JPL site to look for the backlit Saturn photo, couldn't find it - would love a download from them for my screen saver!
Dear Sean,
Dear Sean,
Your Big Picture is tops.
It's a shame when "rights" holders can only spare a postage stamp sized image for the hoi polloi who, after all, may resell them to their neighbors. But seriously, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Thank you (don't tell the writers).

Thanks for the great resources. The only thing I can say is I hope that you start posting more often.
