What happens to the ribbon of land being created by the depression of the Central Artery may be the most important development decision to face Boston in a generation.

Bordered by: Surface Artery, Cross Street, Clinton Street, Commercial Street. Adjacent to Quincy Market and Christopher Columbus Park.

Master plan calls for: Ramp parcel, mixed-use building

Other plans: The Artery Business Committee plan calls for mixed-use development: residential, community center, museum/gallery, non-profit offices. Study done for North End Central Artery Advisory Committee, a neighborhood group, calls for a park covering the ramps and rejects any building whatsoever.

Zoning: A wide varitey of uses, including residential, community, cultural, retail, and open space, are allowed.

Notes: This parcel will have ramps to and from the underground expressway. It is a key parcel that serves as a gateway to the North End. The zoning calls for the views down Clinton Street to Christopher Columbus Park to be preserved.
