The Boston local news scene will be losing another notable name when veteran sports reporter Mike Dowling signs off from SportsCenter 5 for the last time on Feb. 21.

WCVB-TV Channel 5 President and General Manager Bill Fine made the announcement in a press release Tuesday morning.

Dowling joined Channel 5 in 1985 and has covered all of Boston's major sports teams, including 20 local championship quests.

"I've been living the dream," Dowling is quoted as saying in the press release. "Working for the best television station in Boston and in the best sports town in the country? You can't beat that. I feel like I've seen and covered it all, and have enjoyed every minute of it. But after over 33 years in the business, I want to spend more time with my family, to which I'm looking forward while pursuing some interests that I've been thinking about for a while."

Dowling's work has earned him many distinct honors, including an Emmy award as well as several Associated Press awards and two Edward R. Murrow regional awards.
