Moments before the season 12 auditions kicked off in New York, Fox finally confirmed rapper Nicki Minaj and country crooner Keith Urban as their latest additions to the "American Idol" judging panel. The eleventh-hour duo joined fellow newbie, Mariah Carey, and 11-season alum, Randy Jackson. Minaj joined the panel with a $12 million contract (trailing Carey's "just shy of $18 million" deal), while Jackson and Urban's agreements were not disclosed, according to The Associated Press.
Perhaps a multi-genre judging panel of performing artists could give "Idol" the same edge as its competitors, but we'll be waiting until the season's January premiere to see how it all plays out.
