Pride and Prejudice 8 p.m., TCM

No, no zombies. This lovely 1940 adaptation of the Jane Austen novel features a perfectly cast Laurence Olivier as Mr. Darcy (second from left). I’ve enjoyed a few adaptations of the novel that came after this one, not least of all PBS’s 1995 version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. Firth was great and unforgettable, but I always go back to Olivier’s version, so passionate and yet bottled up. The story in this movie diverges from the novel, but it’s still a gem.

Big Brother 13 8 p.m., Channel 4

I thought this reality show was an existential metaphor, “no exit’’ and “hell is other people,’’ and all. But right now, as the Power of Veto competition arises tonight, and the pace moves so frustratingly slowly, and everyone is trying to get more attention and clout than the next guy, I’m wondering if it’s really all about American political life. Somehow, this series draws about 7 million viewers per episode.
