X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE(Max on
THE TRUMAN SHOW(Comcast Movies: All Movies) Jim Carrey fills the screen with mind-bending dazzle in Peter Weir’s imaginative skewering of the voyeuristic flip-flopping of reality and TV. As innocent Truman Burbank — who doesn’t realize that the world he has inhabited for all of his 30 years is a giant TV set, that all the people in his life are actors, that his whole life is prefab and synthetic, and that millions of people tune in to his every move — Carrey takes his clowning and his appeal to new heights. (PG; runs through Sept. 13)
THE COMPANY OF WOLVES(TMC on Comcast) It plays like “Little Red Riding Hood’’ filtered through “The Draughtsman’s Contract.’’ With its handsome production values, it’s a cut above the usual cheapo soft-core Freudian monster films. (R; runs through Sept. 16)
