James Levine hasn't been spotted in public recently, but the Boston Symphony Orchestra expects the often-injured maestro to take the podium next month to start his seventh season. A release sent out today highlights Levine's first full week of performances, Oct. 7-12, featuring Mahler's Symphony No. 2. (The music director's first scheduled BSO performance is opening night, Oct. 2.)
One early test of Levine's health will come Oct. 9. That's when the 67-year-old conductor is scheduled to perform Wagner's "Rheingold" at the Metropolitan Opera, catch a flight to Boston and lead No. 2, or "Resurrection," at Symphony Hall.
