The Met may have a little competition at the movie house. The Coolidge and Boston Lyric Opera are collaborating to show the series, "Europe’s Grand Operas." The screenings feature performances from La Scala, the the Salzburg Festival in Austria, and Teatro La Fenice in Venice. The series starts on Sunday, October 12 with a matinee screening of La Scala’s production of "Aida," directed and designed by Franco Zeffirelli.

The next Sunday, October 19, the Coolidge shows another La Scala performance, "La Traviata," directed by Liliana Cavani. (There's another screening of the opera the next day.)

Other shows:
- "Il Barbiere Di Siviglia" on November 30.
- "Don Giovanni" on December 7.
- "Otello" on January 4.
- "Romeo et Juliette" on February 1.
- "Don Carlo" on Sunday, March 15.
