The BSO announced this afternoon that music director James Levine will not make any of his 2011 Tanglewood scheduled appearances, on the advice of his doctor. A prepared statement went on to say:

This announcement is being made in conjunction with other cancellations announced by the Metropolitan Opera. In early June, the Boston Symphony Orchestra will announce a new roster of conductors for the 2011 Tanglewood programs which were to be led by James Levine. The previously scheduled performance of Debussy's Pelleas et Melisande with the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra and cast of professional singers, which was to have taken place on July 25, will be replaced by a Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra program.
