Joy Division, Unknown Pleasures (1979) This cover is the epitome of post-punk cool. Credited to Peter Saville, Chris Mathan, and Joy Division itself, its a representation of pulses coming from the first pulsar discovered (pulsars are neutron stars emitting electromagnetic radiation). The minimal, mute graphic perfectly captured the moments icy aloofness concealing ardent romanticism.
