For a little bit of magic tonight I am going to head down to The Aviary in Jamaica Plain for an all-ages show featuring Chris North, a New England songwriter celebrating the release of his new EP, Near Far All We Are. North mixes in gentle, dignified ballads with a couple of cool remixes--including a nifty kaleidoscopic trancy collage by Many Mansions ("I Gave Life To Love").

North's own productions here are quite lovely--including his "I Gave Life To Love" which hums along like the Byrds' "Ballad of Easy Rider" or the Monkee's "As We Go Along." This track also includes the nice sitarish solo to complete the mood. The late '60s Byrds might be an appropriate totem here as North pushes his sy-lla-bles in a very McGuinn-like manner on "Near Far All We Are," a duet with Gracious Calamaty's Kate Lee. It certainly is a warm thrush of sounds, perfect for a summer night.
