I have to admit, when I first heard of Battle House’s musical t-shirts, I was hoping they were going to be something like the t-shirt that caused a shut-down of Logan Airport in 2007:

But they actually look like this...which is at least wearable (see front/back):

What you see on the back of this t-shirt is course a QR code, which you can scan by sneaking up behind someone at the bar and snapping a picture of their shirt on your smart phone (and then use to download a copy of Battle House's new EP, Leave the Blanks). OR, you can see Battle House live tonight when they celebrate their record release at Jamaica Plain's Midway Cafe on a bill that includes Animal Hospital, HO-AG and Noxious Foxes.

Go ahead and scan the code now. It's magic on a Rice Krispies scale. Or, if you really want to be old-fashioned, you can just download it from their Bandcamp website:

"This record is the first release on a label we have founded called Fabrik Recordings (," says Battle House's John Perotti, who in addition to being an audio engineer and technical director for NPR, is also top-flight at cooking up dreams. "The idea is we record and mix bands, then release EPs on hand-screen printed shirts so we can try and help some local folks get stuff out. We have a couple of releases in the works, but Leave the Blanks is our test ground."

Check it out either way, especially if you are a fan of Albini-esque, mid-tempo, doomish-yet-clean rock with nifty harmonies. Sounds good to these ears, and hey, t-shirt! If you think this is silly, you better not have any floppy forty-fives from Creem in your collections. Or Spiderman book-&-records.

Now if they could only make a t-shirt with a QR code that would instantly transport you down to the Midway Cafe, they'd really be on to something.
