Joe Perry hinted the other day that Aerosmith might replace Steven Tyler after the lead singer said he was going to focus on "brand Tyler." If that was a tactic to get Tyler to commit to Aerosmith, it worked.

Tyler was a surprise guest at the Joe Perry Project show at the Fillmore in New York last night. According to Rolling Stone online, Tyler reportedly came out and said that he wasn't leaving the band, adding "Joe Perry, you are a man of many colors. But I, (expletive), am the rainbow!” He then sang lead on "Walk This Way."

(Be forewarned, the audio of this clip taken from the audience is not great).

Later, TMZ caught up with the two separately and each confirmed that Tyler was staying put.

  1. Big publicity stunt to have people remember who this band is. They cant even sell out their home arena these days. A once great band is stooping so low to attract interest in the headlines

  1. Come on...aftter this many years and he was really going to leave the band. That would just be crazy. Glad he finally came to his senses.

  1. Oh thank God! I was willing to bet my social security check that they were history.

  1. Damn, I was hoping this was the end of it. It's getting tiring to see this parade of rock stars continue to milk the public for every dollar. Men in their 60s shouldn't wear tights. Go out on top with some dignity left!

  1. AeroHaters will die off before the legend of this band diminshes. They are the greatest entertainment ensemble in the universe. Perry and Tyler are like a marriage and they fight for power. Tyler wanted to remind Perry that he may have LSD (Lead Singer Disease) but Tyler=Aerosmith. He is the front man; he is the show. The band has succeeded because the other 4 grin all the way to the bank. They generate fantastic music, have stayed truer than any other band of this longevity. They are the greatest hands-down. I don't care if Tyler is doing drugs again or his new girlfriend is related to satan himself. This man is a national treasure and all bloggers should treat him and this band with respect.

  1. to FedUpwithHighSchoolSports,
You obviously are not a fan of Aerosmith - considering your name, you are still in HS and listen to crap music. Aerosmith is and will be the best band out there. They have been together for over 25yrs, through thick and thin - they will outlast most marriages and they are still going strong regardless of their age and whatever publicity stunts they do.
I for one am glad that Stevie is staying with the band - he would be very hard to replace. Aerosmith Rocks!

  1. they sell out their own arena, everytime, take a trip to Mansfield next summer and have a GREAT time at their show, or just stay out of it

  1. Great band but their hayday was the seventies...leave it at that.

  1. After watching the video, they probably should consider calling it quits.

  1. This band was the best when I was 14, now I'm 48. Time to move on.

  1. Just like Bon Jovi, the fraud/phony Captain Varitek and a bad rash that will not just go away. Please...I beg of you.....get lost!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. thank you Robin Baneth...all you haters keep quiet...they are America's greatest rock and roll band, and show no signs of slowing down...i can't believe the TOOL that said it was a publicity stunt, what a fool you are...rock on boys

Posted by rob November 11, 09 03:38 PM
  1. Done With Mirrors - their last album?!!? That was 1985!!

    What about:
    Permanent Vacation - 1987
    Pump - 1989
    Get a Grip - 1993
    Nine Lives - 1997
    Just Push Play - 2001
    Honkin On Bobo - 2004

"Mirrors" might have been their last GOOD album, but certainly not their last.

  1. Steven's on drugs again? Do we know this for a fact? I would be very very sad if that's true.

  1. Way to stay relevant with your reporting on cutting edge artists. I propose you change the name of this blog to the Hearing Aid, in order to better relate to the demographic you're apparently shooting for with these incessant Aerosmith updates.

  1. C'mon, Tyler is one of the best front men in the business, they've lasted longer than hundreds of other bands and one hit wonders! We Love Aerosmith!

Posted by warchild November 11, 09 04:35 PM
  1. whoever says bad comments about aerosmith is a complete idiot. Bitchhh i wanna see you try making a successful band , having millions of fans lasting 40 years and being in good shape during your 60s ... I BET MY LIFE YOU DUMB PEOPLE CAN'T ! so STOP saying bad things about AEROSMITH , the day you can beat this guys (which i highly doubt) then you can say whatever you want, but until then SHUT YOUR MOUTH!

Posted by aerobris November 11, 09 06:52 PM
  1. Aerosmith is the best there is and ever will be because of Mr Steven Tyler

Posted by Rachael November 11, 09 06:57 PM
  1. Mr. Tyler's new manager/handler reminds me of other so-called 'managers' (think of Anna Nicole Smith, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson)...always at his side; always butting in (check out the interview in Abu Dhabi). I hope that he is acting on behalf of Steve Tyler, and not himself and isn't the one instigating all this hoo-hah!!

Posted by RocktotheNth November 11, 09 08:17 PM
  1. Pathetic. Rock stars just don't know when to quit. The only exception was Grace Slick.

    Posted by C. Ray November 11, 09 10:13 PM
  1. Great, great band no matter how old they are. Anybody here who says otherwise is a simple-minded idiot and either has a stupid agenda and/or has no clue about what this band's music represents in history and has given back to Boston and their fans around the world over the past thirty years. No better rock 'n' roll, period, and if you don't believe that than you're a complete moron. Wish Tyler, Perry, Hamilton, Whitford and Kramer the best for many years to come regardless of the personal issues. Walk This Way, boys.

  1. What is Balky Bartokomous doing up on stage with them?

Posted by Kevin Roper November 12, 09 09:59 AM
  1. Who is Aerosmith?

OK - I actually know who they are: One of the two worst rock bands of all time, along with Bon Jovi.....both bans live by creed:

It's morally wrong to allow a sucker to keep his money. (Thats you if you ever bought a concert tix or album from these posers).

Posted by Peter Wolf November 12, 09 12:08 PM

This band and everything about it stopped being relevant twenty years ago. Just another dinosaur looking for publicity to boost his ego.

All you pop culture idiots follow these people around and drool over their every move as if you mean anything at all to them. They are NOT your friends and its sad so many people live their lives following others instead of doing something interesting yourself.

There are so many other things to worry about in life than another washed up entertainer and whatever personal issues they may have.

  1. Aerosmith is, to put it simply for you idiots out there.......THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!!!!!

Posted by noreaster November 12, 09 11:17 PM
  1. Aerosmith is the best live act I've ever seen! I've seen them more than 20 times and I'm pretty tight with a buck. It's not Tyler that makes them the best it's all of them including Tyler's fantastic voice, energy, and presence, but the band is soo tight!. Seeing Page and Plant together, the Who, and Pearl Jam were in the same league, but some of the Aerosmith shows I've seen have topped all other acts.
