It's really, really important to be nimble -- on your feet and in your head -- when navigating the showcases. Case in point: within an hour-and-a-half Sound Effects took in sets by a kazoo-playing indie-folk songstress, Bobby McFerrin's sample-happy son Taylor, Boys in the Band, a manic, keytar-toting soul-rock outfit from the Faroe Islands, and garage-punk Jay Reatard. Talk about mood swings.
