PERESTROIKA

First Mondays, 10:30 p.m. Jacque’s Cabaret, 79 Broadway. Cover: $6. 617-426-8902, www.jacques-cabaret.com

The deal: As the self-proclaimed “best drag show in the world,’’ the local favorite once-a-month spectacle of sequins known as Perestroika continues to supply the fiercest night out for Boston’s drag-hungry masses — gay or straight. Each showgirl promises to perform a traditional burlesque routine and this month, Russian goddess Katya Zamolodchikova celebrates her birthday along with Ms. Nicholle Pride, Frieda Fries, and a surprise guest. Says Katya, “People can expect high drama, high camp, low-brow humor, and strong stiff drinks.’’

The DJ: Emcee Katya (inset; recently named one of Boston’s Sexiest in Stuff magazine) will be celebrating her entrance into her twilight years.

3 Songs You’ll Hear: Every performance is different, but the girls perform to everything from Russian songs to pop and experimental music.

Who goes there? “It’s a mixture of young and old, gay and straight,’’ says Katya. “It’s really diverse and a lot of fun. It’s not a traditional drag show.’’

The drink: “They’re all really strong.’’

The tip: “Come with an open mind,’’ says Katya. “Leave your inhibitions at the door — and bring lots of dollars to tip the showgirls!’’
