With acting roles in films such as "Tin Cup," "JFK," and "The Bodyguard" already under his belt, Kevin Costner made the leap to directing in the 1990 period piece "Dances With Wolves," which he also starred in. The movie won seven Oscars, including best director for Costner and best picture. Costner later did some work behind the camera for the expensive and panned film "Waterworld" (1995). He also starred in the film.
Other notable credits: "The Postman" (1997) and "Open Range" (2003).
