Rapper Kanye West, who previously released the short film "Runaway," announced he will debut another short film, "Cruel Summer," on May 23 at the Cannes Film Festival on Palm Beach in the south of France.

West's creative company DONDA says it will be "a fusion of short film and art installation" and an "immersive seven-screen experience." Several famous faces are set to appear in the film, including "Parks and Recreation" actor-comedian Aziz Ansari and fellow rapper Kid Cudi. Last month, West reportedly spent thousands to bring the crew to Qatar in the Middle East just to "film split-second appearances" and Kid Cudi was spotted alongside him.

The piece will be screened out of competition and will stay open to the public for two days after its debut. Fans can register for free tickets on the film's website.

As noted by Pitchfork, the film's release makes good on at least one part of a long Twitter rant that West posted in January, in which he announced plans for "Cruel Summer." At the time, he also claimed he was being approached to serve as "creative director" of a big screen version of "The Jetsons," which was later denied by the film's producer.
