Jason Chu, director of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber’s manager, and Jason Blum, producer of “Paranomal Activity,” are teaming up to create a live action version of one of the ‘80s biggest cartoons, “Jem and the Holograms” — and they need your help to get the ball rolling.
The trio released a video (above) asking their fans and social media followers to help them in the production of the film. Chu describes their quest as “sort of like a Kickstarter campaign, but instead of asking for your money, [they’re] asking for your creativity.”
Chu, Braun, and Blum’s announcement video doesn’t give away much, but we do know the movie will be a live action, modern day take on the Hasbro cartoon.
If you’re down to help the film get made (or want to be in it), here’s what you can do:
1. Post a video or image on Tumblr and tell them what they love about Jem (labeled with #JemtheMovie so that they can find it).
2. Nominate someone for the cast (they’re asking for the “most talented girls and boys in the world”). We’re talking triple threats (singing, dancing, acting). Make sure the video is no more than 2 minutes on Tumblr, and tag it with #JemtheMovie.
We can’t help but wonder if the guys’ bodies have been taken over by some awesome Synergy holographic replicas, because really, what could motivate an action director, a horror movie producer, and a music mega manager to remake this cartoon?
If you weren’t addicted to watching the show in the ‘80s, watch the clip above to get clued in on the Synergy hologram reference.
