“Delivery Man” offers a kinder, gentler Vince Vaughn in a pleasantly ramshackle comedy several rungs below his usual fare in both budget and high-concept assault tactics. A remake of the 2011 French-Canadian film “Starbuck” — with co-writer/director Ken Scott photocopying his own movie — it casts the star as a kind-hearted loser who learns he has 533 grown children, sired from sperm he donated two decades earlier. And 142 are suing to learn his identity.
What does he do? Stalks them and sets about secretly improving their lives, of course. The movie is predictable but likeable, schmaltzy but sweet, and Vaughn in low-voltage mode wins you over. Like his character, the film is kind of a dog — but a nice one that licks your face.
