“Thanks for Sharing” is what Variety would call a “twelve-stepper” -- an engagingly didactic drama about addiction and recovery. The subject is sex addiction, and the producers hope to minimize your queasiness with a strong cast and a script that keeps you involved with the characters, even as they run a predictable route of struggle and qualified triumph.
Mark Ruffalo plays a New York businessman who has gone two years without a relapse, Tim Robbins is his support-group sponsor, a wise old Yoda of recovery, and Josh Gad is the resistant newbie. Arguably the movie could have been tougher in its depiction of what these people are struggling with, but see “Shame” for that. With Gwyneth Paltrow as Ruffalo’s perfect pill of a girlfriend.
