Lunch at my desk
It was chicken salad, which I made over the weekend, and a particularly nice one. Not the mayonnaise variety, but a salad with a light vinaigrette. Vinegar tends to break down the chicken and even a day later, the texture is awful. But I used this cider vinegar, which my longtime co-author Julie Riven has been raving about.
She just returned from a couple of weeks teaching cooking in Normandy and found the vinegar over there. She could have kicked herself, she said, when she was buying lots of mustards at the Maille boutique in Paris on the Place de la Madeleine that I sent her to, and she didn't buy any vinegar.
Last week she went to see her mother in Montreal and found lots of bottles there. About the same time, I spotted it at Formaggio Kitchen ($4.95).
Worth the search.
