El Diablo is the anti-vanilla

It's summer: time for sweat-inducing spicy food and cooling cones of ice cream. Usually, though, the two don't come in one package. But then J.P. Licks' El Diablo ice cream ($3.25 for a cone; $4.99 for a pint) is anything but usual. Inspired by Mexican mole sauce, the flavor combines zippy cayenne and cinnamon with rich chocolate ice cream for a New World spin on America's favorite dessert. Piquant, sweet, and creamy, the combination works. Also on ice: Disco Inferno (Tabasco) and Turning Japanese (wasabi) ice creams and a Bloody Mary-flavored sorbet. Lick at your own risk.
