Jackie Bruno

Miss Massachusetts USA 2008

Today Bruno finishes her last week as a full-time radio sales executive with WFHN 107. Bruno, who was Miss Massachusetts Teen USA in 2003, was crowned Miss Massachusetts USA 2008 on Nov. 18. She's charting a path to a new future beginning tonight, when she meets Boston-based fashion photographer Arturo, who has an exhibit opening tonight at Foundation Lounge. Clemente Productions, which owns Miss Massachusetts USA and Miss Vermont USA, is running a pageant-prep weekend for newly crowned beauty queens and their teen pageant-winning sisters. There's an intensive photo session on Sunday to get shots for the glossies they'll distribute at public appearances, but the women will also work with pageant managers and sponsors to take care of the less glamorous matters, like contracts and policies, and plan wardrobes and appearance schedules leading to the grand Miss USA contest in the spring.

Kareem Lyder

Founder and president of Anotha1! Entertainment Group

For almost a year, as the week has come to a close on his nine-to-five gig at Bank of America, Lyder has scooted to 360 Ultra Lounge, a club near Faneuil Hall, for Flirt Fridays, the weekly party he organizes and promotes. "They say promoters are professional party-goers. People come and hang out with you," says Lyder, who's known as "K.Pritty." But lately he's been branching out. Tomorrow, for instance, he'll be at the Boston Urban Arts Festival at UMass Boston, for which he planned the day's musical entertainment. It's the first event he's worked on that fuses music, fashion, and the arts; he welcomes the switch from "the usual party scene." Sunday is a little less hectic, but that's not to say he's not working. Even a few hours playing NBA 2K7 on Xbox is research for the 2K7 tournament he has in the works.
