The city of Cambridge today named the square at the intersection of Linden, Bow, and Mount Auburn streets in honor of David Halberstam, the Harvard alum and Pultizer Prize-winning journalist who died in 2007. (City officials settled on the square after an earlier plan to rename Plympton Street was opposed by the Harvard Crimson.) "Journalists are not always recognized because they sometimes do unpopular things," said former Cambridge city councilor Frank Duehay. "President Kennedy tried to get Halberstam withdrawn from Vietnam but The New York Times wouldn't do it. He spoke truth to power."
