Drake a no-show at BET Awards because of Chris Brown?

Drake was nominated for a dozen BET Awards (he won three), but the "Started From the Bottom" rapper -- who calls himself Drizzy -- was nowhere to be found at the awards show in Los Angeles Sunday night.

His excuse? He was at home finishing his new album, "Nothing Was the Same," and spending time with family before hitting the road for his tour this fall.

However, Drake may have been trying to avoid music biz nemesis Chris Brown,
according to this report in the Buzz60 video above. He waited until just a few hours before the show to announce he wouldn't be attending.

Brown and Drake have had it out in the past, reportedly over the pair's on-again, off-again romances with Rihanna. The two reportedly got into a physical altercation at a New York City nightclub in 2012 because of the "Diamonds" singer.

Drake recently told GQ Magazine that he doesn't want his name to be synonymous with Brown's, and that he won't back down if he's challenged.

"I don't want my name to be synonymous with that guy's name. I really don't. I wish we could sit down, just like you and me are right now, and talk it out man-to-man. But that's not going to happen. I'm not confrontational, but if someone challenges, I'm not going to back down."

Whatever the real reason, the Canadian rapper came out on top, at least in the numbers game. Drake took home three BET Awards, and Brown left with just one.

What do you think of Drake's explanation? Do you think he just wanted to avoid a fight? Let us know in the comments.
