Matt Damon to receive Harvard honor Thursday

Update, April 25: Names writer Mark Shanahan tweeted from scene at Harvard's Sanders Theatre and snapped this pic of Damon (right) with John Lithgow during the chat. Check back later for a post on the event.

Although Matt Damon never graduated from Harvard (he attended from 1988-1992), the actor-writer-director-producer is being honored by the university for excelling in the arts world with the 2013 Harvard Arts Medal.

The ceremony, hosted by actor John Lithgow (Harvard '67), takes place in Sanders Theatre. Lithgow will moderate a discussion with Damon regarding the "Good Will Hunting" writer's life and career. Harvard president Drew Faust will present Damon with the award.

Previous winners of the Harvard Arts Medal include Tommy Lee Jones, Jack Lemmon, and Yo-Yo Ma.

Outside of his film work, Damon has contributed to society by founding H20 Africa, now known as, to provide safe water and sanitation to communities in Africa, South Asia, and Central America.
