KISS 108 morning host Matt Siegel yesterday welcomed WEEI to the FM dial with a poke in the eye. Siegel and his “Matty in the Morning’’ cohosts were crowing about the sports-talk station’s decision to start simulcasting on WMKK (93.7), better known as the pop-rock station Mike FM. “Another notch in our lipstick case,’’ said Siegel, clearly pleased that an FM competitor had been vanquished. He then took a swipe at WEEI’s morning team, saying, “You’ll have John Dennis and Gerry Callahan going on the air and saying how they hate the president, they hate Jews or whatever they hate, and, oh by the way, there was a Red Sox game yesterday.’’ The comment was met with silence, and then Siegel said, “I’m kidding, I’m kidding.’’ Mary Menna, Boston market manager for Clear Channel Radio, which owns KISS 108, characterized the remark as an “offhand comment’’ that was not intended to be taken seriously. (Dennis and Callahan have made a few provocative comments themselves. In 2003, the highly rated morning hosts were suspended after they compared an escaped gorilla to minority children who participate in Metco, a state-sponsored education program.) Asked yesterday about Siegel’s slam, Dennis took the high road. “I suspect that proves that my taste in humor is quite different than his,’’ Dennis wrote in an e-mail.
