Food (payment) fight
A Peabody businessman says he’ll continue his fight against Adam Sandler and the crew working on the local comedy “Donny’s Boy.’’ George Meehan, who told us yesterday that he‘s a partner in Peabody’s Little Italy Cafe and that he also runs the Taste of Italy catering company with his sister, has accused the people in charge of food on “Donny’s Boy’’ of asking him to order barbecue supplies for Sandler’s crew to be used at a moment’s notice - but then not ever calling Meehan and his sister for the food. Meehan says he had worked with the crew before and had been paid for those services, but that this final order and no-show cost him $5,000 in supplies. Meehan claims that after complaining to folks in charge of food for the movie, he’s received $2,500. He says he’s still owed another $2,500, which is why he’s been posted a sign in the window at Little Italy Cafe saying “Adam Sandler ate here and never paid.’’ TMZ.com was the first website to report the fight between the movie crew and the local businessman. The site says that reps for Sandler denied that any promises were made to Taste of Italy, and calls Meehan and his sister possible “publicity hounds.’’ When we reached reps for Sandler and “Donny’s Boy’’ yesterday, they stood by their comments to TMZ. The crew has left the North Shore to film on the Cape.
