“Phantom Gourmet’’ host Mike Andelman is surprised by the online criticism concerning comments he made on “The Phantom Gourmet’’ radio show about restaurant hostesses. Ranting about a Grill 23 hostess who wouldn’t seat him in the dining room before the dinner hour began, Andelman said all restaurant hostesses are attractive but incompetent. Yesterday, he told us the comments were meant to be facetious. “Our radio show is obviously satire,’’ said Andelman, who hosts the show with his brothers David and Daniel. (“The Phantom Gourmet’’ airs Saturdays on WTKK-FM, 96.9.) “Ninety-five percent of the disparaging remarks are made about the Andelman brothers. We are the brunt of most of our jokes.’’ Not surprisingly, Himmel Hospitality Group, which runs Grill 23, was none too pleased and issued the following statement: “Himmel Hospitality is shocked and saddened at the personal attack that has been made on an employee and in such a public manner. We always hope that any guest that is dissatisfied with food or service at Grill 23 contact the General Manager or any member of management immediately. We stand behind our employee and her decision not to seat guests in a closed dining room. Himmel Hospitality and Grill 23 & Bar are very proud of our excellent staff and the service they provide.’’ The restaurant says it doesn’t know which of its hostesses dealt with Andelman that night. “We have several scheduled each night, and none of them recall this specific exchange,’’ the statement said. Andelman said he didn’t get any complaints when the show aired more than a week ago. The online discussion erupted after “I’m Your Server Not Your Servant’’ restaurant blogger Patrick Maguire posted an entry about Andelman’s comments.
