Dishing about aging

Charla Krupp, author of the best-selling style guide "How Not to Look Old," isn't bashful about doling out opinions on beauty. Here she is on celebs who look a bit odd because of work they've had done: Priscilla Presley ("She was so gorgeous. What did she do?") and Meg Ryan ("Everybody knows that something is wrong," she says. "Her lips are just too much"). And those who look amazing as they get older: Vanessa Williams ("Gorgeous," Krupp exclaims) and Helen Mirren ("Where to start? She has great style, knows what works for her. She has a great cut to her hair. . . . Her eyebrows are shaped. Just great"). The New York-based writer and style commentator is in the area for several appearances including last night's event at LuxLash on Newbury Street and tonight's "Martinis, Makeovers, and a Mission" fund-raiser at Neiman Marcus Copley Place for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Although Krupp won't reveal her age - several reports say she's 54 - she says aging is about looking good, not looking unnatural. "Some women are in their 60s or 70s and their faces don't move," Krupp said. "I call it the Frozen Monkey. They look ridiculous."

Kate Hudson was hard to miss during filming of "Bride Wars" in the Back Bay. Hudson, who costars with Anne Hathaway in the comedy, was wearing a patent leather motorcycle jacket, gold stretch-satin mini, and heels. All in all, a good look.

Is Tom Brady's girlfriend bound for the big screen? Maybe. We're told Gisele Bundchen, who had a bit part in "The Devil Wears Prada," is being considered for the female lead in the new "Austin Powers" film, following in the footsteps of Elizabeth Hurley, Heather Graham, and Beyoncé Knowles. Oh, behave! Word is the 27-year-old Brazilian beauty already has been given the script, and her agent will meet soon with star Mike Myers and director Jay Roach. Bundchen hasn't done a lot of acting in part because Portuguese - not English - is her native tongue. But it's also true that the world's richest supermodel is extremely busy with photo shoots, fashion shows, and clothing lines, and she doesn't have the four or five months of time it takes to make a movie. If she does decide to do the film, Bundchen could get a few acting tips from her boyfriend. The Pats QB made a memorable appearance on "Saturday Night Live" in 2005, poking fun at his pretty-boy image in sketches about a song-and-dance man with a sweet derriere, a Middle Eastern chef, and an UGGs-wearing soprano sax player who resembled Kenny G.

The glossy mag for and about Harvard alums, 02138, will soon have a new owner. Women's Wear Daily reports that Atlantic Media owner David Bradley is off-loading the magazine less than 18 months after its launch. The buyer? A South Florida-based company called Sandow Media, which owns NewBeauty magazine, among other publications. Atlantic Media owns The Atlantic Monthly and National Journal. The latest issue of 02138 is about Harvard's connection to Hollywood, from Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone to Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and everyone in between.

After the opening day game, Dr. Larry Ronan, one of the Red Sox docs, made the Dorchester rounds allowing his friends and neighbors to try on his World Series championship ring. A Savin Hill resident, Ronan stopped by C.F. Donovan's eatery in Savin Hill and later went to Gerard's Restaurant in Adams Corner.

Supermodel Petra Nemcova, actor Isaiah Stokes, and former Boston Celtics player Michael Olowokandi were among the glitteratti to gather Tuesday night to help former Boston nightlife impresario Seth Greenberg launch his second New York hotspot, Espace. Located in Chelsea, the new event space joins Greenberg's earlier Manhattan venture, Capitale.

Former Governor Mitt Romney will get some mike time today when he fills in for an ailing Paul Harvey on his nationally syndicated radio show. Harvey is recovering from pneumonia and is scheduled for cataract surgery, so there has been a rotating cast of guest hosts. Locally, WEIM-AM (1280) carries Harvey's "News & Comment" programming.
