Somerville resident Andrew Krivak drew on a family story about his grandfather fought for the Austro-Hungarian army in World War I for his debut novel “The Sojourn,’’ which has been nominated for a National Book Award. Besides Krivak, Brookline resident Edith Pearlman also is a finalist in the fiction category for “Binocular Vision: New & Selected Stories,’’ and Harvard professor Stephen Greenblatt is a finalist in nonfiction for “Swerve: How the World Became Modern.’’
