Update, 6:38 p.m.: A State Fire Marshal told WBZ the device in Marshfield was a pipe bomb.
Police continue to investigate the scene.
Original story: The State Police Bomb Squad have reportedly detonated what appeared to be an explosive device found in Marshfield Sunday afternoon, WBZ reports.
Police have not confirmed if the device is explosive in nature. The package was described to the Patriot Ledger as a black object wrapped in electrical tape with protruding wires.
The item was found around 3:15 p.m. near the Brant Rock Esplanade, according to the Marshfield Mariner. Streets are closed from Dyke Road up to Brant Rock.
A call to the Marshfield Police Department was not immediately returned Sunday night.
This is the second explosive device detonated by the State Police Bomb Squad this week—a Worcester home was evacuated Friday morning after a pipe bomb was discovered on a parked car.
